I also doubt that you will take a project player like Marshall with so much short-term job security at stake as well.

That is the spanner in the works. Why would we take battle when he has less upside and is staying in Victoria for schooling next year? Makes no sense.
Now I'm a big fan of the CD rankings- they predicted the impact that Caleb Daniel would have for starters. But you have to understand how they work to use their data properly:why?
according to Champion Data, they rank Battle at 14 and Marshall at 29, Marshall had a poor second half of the year, they think there's a massive differential between his best and worst
I'm not following this as close as most but not sure why people wouldn't want battle form the few times I've watched him. Good mark and kick who knows where the goals are. Why would people say Marshall has a higher ceiling? if Battle did test poorly at the combine that would suggest he also has a lot of improvement in him.why?

Think battle isnt the one who we were going to pick at 9 thats way too high; i wouldnt be outraged if we got him at 17; thats probably the last pick we have until he becomes unavaliable. All this talk about his combine results:
Repeat sprint: 27.00
20m: 3.08
Agilty: 9.07
Beep 13.7
3k:10.07
Better than kerr, better than mutch in 3k, 20m. Better than b cox in beep and 3k. 0.03 off cox's 20m.
This is stupid, and if our recruiting team were using the same logic, I'd want them all sacked.I also doubt that you will take a project player like Marshall with so much short-term job security at stake as well.
If they haven't got the speed and agility by 18, they may never get it- Harvey and Sellars come to mind in an instant. Battle has primed himself as a 3 km expert. He made a point of training for this and winning it at the Academy, I think. He's no fat school kid you can transform, so average agility and beep tests are a worry.I'm not following this as close as most but not sure why people wouldn't want battle form the few times I've watched him. i get you want a situation where the player you want is available with your pick but the only way we should be passing on Marshall is because we are taking two mids with our first picks.I also doubt that you will take a project player like Marshall with so much short-term job security at stake as well.
) would be completely shocked if scrimshaw gets past kangas pick - absolute class playerIm not sure Kangaroos pick Scrimshaw over Florent and Crows may have a choice between Hayward and Scrimshaw then pick 14 becomes a easy choice Hayward/Scrimshaw
Gunstan and Battle . Could not be further apart. At 18s Gunstan was a great contested mark. I am not sure i have ever seen gunstan take a contested mark in front.Josh Battle is a lumbering third tall but who knows. Maybe we see him as a mid? He's not the answer to our forward problem. Out of left field what if we grab Battle as a mid and Marshall as well.

"He has elite endurance, very strong above his head and then very good at ground level like Hawthorn's Jack Gunston.
"He's very creative up the field as well and I think he could evolve into a big-bodied midfielder.
"Last year his training was pretty inconsistent, but now he could train quite comfortably with an AFL squad because that's how professional he's become over the past 12 months.
Witherden could easily end up being a top class mid imoMarshall >> Battle . Marshall way more upside , wait until he does pre seasons
FWIW I think you will end up with Marshall and Witherden
Hayward being the smoky if he gets through to either of your first 2 picks ( has to get past us)
Witherden could be the steal of the draft and good ball user will be handy
