Clarke TAC stats are impressive,
Disposals: 29.4
Tackles: 7.9
Contested disposals: 16.6 (number 1 in TAC)
Clearances 6.8

Average disposals aside, still heaps to work with. Well worth a pick in the 30s.
You don't ignore those numbers when you're lamenting the possession counts of Hamish (Avg disposals 18.4) Hartlett, Brad (Avg disposals 18.2) Ebert and Jared (Avg disposals 19.4) Polec.

I think his disposal efficiency was around 50%. I get what everyone is saying, he's elite at getting the pill but if he keeps turning it over by foot, are you going to be ok with that? There must be someone at 30 who is a good inside mid and a good kick! I thought this was a deep draft for mids...

Anyone else have the feeling that with decent 4 picks at our disposal we might burn one on a "creative" selection i.e. some kid no one's even heard of?
Higher risk than ever, given the lack of consensus for players outside the top 5ish. And also given Port's `The guy we want at 9 will be there at 14' attitude during trade period.

Yet everyone wants to do it with hayward:rolleyes:
(This isnt directed precisely towards you honeyboy; just frustrated with everyone undermining hayward)

On a side note whatever happens tommorow i hope we all get around the 4 kids we draft; putting biases aside whether its a board favourite like spp or a less popular player like witherden i know theyll make mistakes along the way but we should get around them because from 7pm onwards they will officially be representing our great club

I'm on the side that doesn't read thattt much into disposal numbers, although they're nice.

I'm worried if it's an out and out mid who doesn't get much of the ball, but if I see a low possession winner who shows he can win ball in contested situations well (ala Venables), it doesn't bother me too much. Once they get to AFL level, build an AFL endurance base, learn structures and proper spread I think they can pump their disposal numbers up. I'm more worried by outside leaning mids not getting much ball than I am inside mids for some reason.

You look at someone like Josh Kelly, very outside leaning mid who racked it up in the juniors. Now, he looks like he will be a great player at AFL level, but it's not like he's killing it in disposal numbers (although he has to share the ball with a lot of other great rising star mids too).

Then you get someone like Sam Colquhoun, outside leaning midfielder/loose half back who had the ball on a string in juniors. It never quite translated.

With someone like Hayward, I'm fine if we take him, his disposal numbers mean jack all to me. I'd prefer other players, but he has X factor in spades in the contest, especially one on one. That, along with his marking and leading ability is why he kills it in the forward line.

That one on one contest is something that if he can translate into the middle will make for a very damaging player, and his reading of the flight of the ball and contested marking will be invaluable when wanting to make a quick rebound out of 50 if he pushes up the ground.

A disposal efficiency of 50% doesn't equate to 50% clangers though.

Hard to spot up a leading target when kicking quickly out of a pack.

The problem with Sam Gray's quick kicks is that they have a habit of falling to a nest of uncontested opponents. That's what Clarke needs to avoid.

Just because he is a great bloke doesn't mean I would bid on him. Mind you if it was a toss up between him and someone else his personality would push him over the edge. Actually that is not quite right, depending on who is available I may bid on him at 30 but I would hope to do better.

I'd lol if the crows bid on Cummings at 13.

GWS would say not matched as quick as they can before the crows change their mind

Isn't it always that for 99.9% of us they'll all be kids no-one has ever heard of?

Dylan Clarke is the only player in the draft that i definitely want and haven't changed my mind. His kicking isn't that bad. It's reasonably effective. He chooses good options and puts it in the right direction! Its fine. He is no risk. Racks up possessions and has the fitness and size to go forward take marks and kick goals.

Is Emma Quayle ever doing a mock? Hers is normally accurate...because people tell her who they are picking.

anyone else want Ben Jarman with a late pick purely for the lulz
I'd want him if he is worth a pick 80ish just so that in 2 years time the crowies demand of their club that they get him off us, and then the crows pay a Matthew Bode type premium to get him. That's why I'd draft him, bugger the LOLs

Plus, despite what people think kicking and skills can be improved. Especially that of an 18 year old

Wouldn't have thought so at this point, but here are her thoughts on Port......
With four picks in the first two rounds the Power have bought themselves some options and flexibility. It could be up to them to bid for GWS Academy youngster Harry Perryman, who is too good a player to get past their first pick. They're one of a few who could contemplate bidding for Gold Coast's Brad Scheer and Collingwood's Callum Brown and Josh Daicos later on, as well. Given the Giants will need to use pick 15 to secure Will Setterfield there will be just one selection – belonging to Brisbane –between Port's first and second picks. Jy Simpkin is one player they have been linked to and would make some sense given his high skill level; they need to get some good kicks in. Alex Witherden is another contender, and a player the Lions may look at too, so if Port want him they might need to go for him first. Could Jordan Gallucci or Daniel Venables reach them? Oliver Florent has some skill and versatility, and what about Will Brodie? It seems improbable he will be left on the shelf for that long, but who knows? Port's forward line needs more numbers and they may get a look at Will Hayward, an energetic lead-up player. The hard-running Josh Battle could be considered and it looks like they will get a call on key forward Todd Marshall, who started the season as a top-five prospect and tired, but can do some special things. That they are picking twice, and come back again at the start of the 30s when plenty of decent midfielders will still be around, might make it a worthwhile move.

Emma tweeted a few weeks ago that she may give this year a miss. Seems to be the case.
