It's an average draft at this stage, similar to last year but with more of a midfield flavour.

Battle sounds like the exact forward we need. Scharenberg and Graham would be great. Goddard is a great prospect, may go in the top 30.

Hamish Brayshaw is an interesting one, apparently similar to his brother but people have him rated as a second or third rounder. His progression will be interesting and, if he has that yard of pace and is combative like his brother, then get him in!

There are some nice pacey outside mids that we could consider in the second and third rounds.

Their dad (Mark Brayshaw) was our original Marketing Manager circa 1996-1999 before he became Richmond's CEO. He was later on the North Melbourne board with his brother, James.

We might be replacing 8 to 10 players if things keep going poorly - despite some long term contracts. I'd expect us to take 5 or 6 thru the draft if we get rid of that many players.
I have tried looking for that thread with the contracts for out players. From memory there are a few out of contract this year.

I spoke to knightmare and said port needs outside players with great footskills or inside players who are very clean and sharp with their disposal. Also mentioned a key defender who is a very good ball user would be handy if not as important as the first two needs.

From his 2015 draft thread knightmare had this to say-

"Petrevski-seton and Simpkin are the two star outside players in this draft. Petrevski-Seton with his running (also incredible duel sided user in his own right) and Simpkin with his ball use (but also quick).

McCluggage as an inside mid I like with his pace, ball use and overall tricks.

Down back Rotham and Schrimshaw for offense are the guys to look out for. Both can rebound and use the ball.

They're some names to watch out for based on those list needs."

Great contributor that knightmare and one of a number of guys around here whose opinion I rate. Writing for espn now so check that out.

Petrevski-seton will in all likely hood be well out of our draft range as the number one prospect but Jy Simpkin unfortunately broke his leg recently and is out for the year. Will slide in the draft. Considering our need for fast outside mids with great kicks he would be a very smart risk to take as he could be a bargain in the draft.

Haven't seen any vision of mcluggage yet but on what I've read is my fave prospect and should be our number one target. Knightmare is now writing for espn , so search his page and find him talking up mcluggage. A mid who wins the ball in congestion not through strength as he is still very slight but by being very quick of mind and super sharp in his skills and evasive ability. Knightmare says his ceiling could be Robbie gray as he has some of those natural attributes. Sold.

Josh battle is the number one key forward in this draft at this point and someone to think about if he will be available at our pick as well. Sounds a very different prospect to Dixon. Athletic , fast , high leaping and strong hands marking player sounds like a perfect partner to Dixon.

If we are concerned about ball users in our back half rotham would be a tall defender that would address that.

Ezekiel frank is a 192cm forward from the nt that I'll be taking an interest in as a 3rd tall forward prospect.

Peter ladhams is a 200cm ruck here in sa , seems to be able to find a bit of the ball around the ground going by his stats and a decent mark of the ball up forward. If he slides on draft day as ruckman have been he would be a smart pick up in the mid to later rounds as we can let him develop for a while.

But yeah mcluggage and Simpkin would be two prospects I feel while th would take time to develop would address the issues we have in our midfield at the moment.

McLuggage for the name alone

Dare I say it? You make a strong case.

Really like McCluggage for our first pick. As previously mentioned, has a bit of robbie gray dash about him. Peter Ladhams will most likely be gone before our next pick but wouldn't mind using our third on Jordan Sweet. North lad at 205cm 100+kg. Nice project to work with.

Sweet trained with us over the summer.

See the Mead boys featuring in the WWT Eagles junior teams these days. Too young to be drafted IIRC. How many Power games did Darren play?

Its a real pity that Simpkin broke his leg. He's one I was looking forward to watching.

Powell-Pepper I like. Hard runner, decent pace, good user. Josh Battle is a ripping name for a key forward. Like the look of Will Brodie as well as a tallish inside mid. Has a lot of Pendlebury about him.

Means we can have a shot at Simpkin at a discounted price which while not ideal he is injured as long as docs clear him I think is ok. Everything I read about Simpkin says he is super clean and damaging with his disposal , and he stays involved in the play for an outside mid / flanker as well. That is everything we need right there and he should be high on our list.

Mcluggage also is touted as a super effective clean player. Exactly what I want.

Scharenberg meant to be elite at finding huge numbers of the ball and clean in stoppages. Again something we can use.

Graham sounds like a good prospect as a strong built mid with a quick first few steps if we can get him later.

Battle sounds like the perfect foil to Dixon

Rotham sounds like a gun. While we need other stuff more if you ended up with him he would be a good pick up. A guy who can rack up 20+ touches and use the ball to an elite level while being a good defender is pretty insane.

According to this early analysis 6 of the top 13 will be academy players and will go before other clubs get to them.

Jonty Scharenberg is a possibility for us.

interesting read... would hate to be this bloke though.. "plays like......."

14. Josh Rotham (WA)
Best position: Key defence
Height, weight: 192cm, 79kg
Recruited from: West Perth
Plays like: Troy Chaplin
Projected draft range: First round
Profile: Rotham is a highly productive rebounding key defender who uses the footy very well by foot coming out of the back half. Will need to get stronger and develop his one-on-one game and ability to his direct opponent.

I'm licking my lips at the prospect of Scharenberg. Tough inside mid, very clean hands, neat kicking and composed as all hell. Finds a lot of the ball. Just one of those players that looks like he'll make it at the top level.

first round.....

10. Jonty Scharenberg (SA)
Best position:
Inside midfield
Height, weight: 185cm, 77kg
Recruited from: Glenelg
Plays like: Callan Ward
Projected draft range: First to second round
Profile: Highly productive inside midfielder with strong contested ball winning ability, Scharenberg wins clearances and gains first possession regularly, can dish a quick handball in traffic to open teammates, find space in traffic and tackles strongly through the midfield. He also finds a good balance of contested and uncontested possessions. The brother of Collingwood's Matthew at times has proven a threat forward of centre, running into space, taking some strong marks and offering some scoreboard impact. Skill level by hand and foot is good. Athletically Scharenberg is only average, with no freakish attributes but he has an overall good workrate, covers the ground well, spreads from stoppages and provides some overlap run. Scharenberg would benefit from making his weapons more pronounced, taking his inside game from very good to dominant and taking his play forward of centre up another level, but overall he offers a well-rounded game through the midfield, projecting to be a valuable component to a midfield going forward.

then i want to be saying sweeeeet

25. Jordan Sweet (SA)|
Best position:
Ruck
Height, weight: 203cm, 105kg
Recruited from: North Adelaide
Plays like: Matthew Kreuzer
Projected draft range: second to third round
Profile: Sweet is a big, tall, dominating ruckman. While Sweet is a highly effective tap ruckman, he also has demonstrated some ability to find the ball around the ground.

That would be a good draft day, if only we had a 2nd pick....

The way things are going, if any of the draft picks have ANY record of injury, strike them off our list. Not much use having the best on our list when they spend a good part of the season off the field.
