No way do I want a forward we can put in the midfield. I want a genuine mid. A Pity Mc1 and Mc2 will be gone. I don't care who is the best available, just use the first 4 picks on midfielders. then balance out list with the rest. Galluci and Drew with our first two picks would make me happy and not necessarily in that order.

Yeh great idea... That way we can continue build a team full of midfielders and flankers with no star key forwards to kick to!

TIM ENGLISH

POS:
Ruckman/tall forward, Ht 204cm, Wt 86kg, DOB 10/8/97
From South Fremantle/Western Australia

The 204cm ruckman made his senior debut in the WAFL two weeks ago and performed solidly. English has had an excellent season, which is almost his introduction to elite underage football after not being drafted last year when he was old enough to be eligible. For a player his size, English has great athleticism, his foot skills are more than trusty, and he fights for the ball at ground level like an extra midfielder. Some scouts think he could be the most exciting player in the pool, but he does have some way to go with his physical development.

In the 2012 draft Brodie Grundy was originally tipped to go very high and finally slipped to 18 where Colingwood were waiting with two picks. Should we manage to get a second high pick would he be a good target? Remembering that Grundy started his improvement in his second year and has become one of the league's premier ruckmen in his fourth year.

Grundy started the year highly rated then fell late. English has pretty well done the opposite. Started the year almost unknown and has continued to rise and rise to the point where 2 recruiters would pick him with pick 1 if they had that pick.

I can't see him getting past Freo at this point to be honest. Sandi's 34 and finished, Griffin is 30, Hannath has playde 8 games in 3 years, Clarke looking to go to Victoria.

We lack midfield depth and haven't picked a midfielder in the last 2 drafts as it is. I'd be fine going predominantly small this year with 1 or 2 taller picks

I don't know to laugh or cry if McGrath slid to us

Marshall going at pretty much 9 excited me

I reckon one of those big name smalls might slide to us, but its dependent on GC and GWS having to use their 2 top 10 picks on academy players, which they won't do unless they are forced to.

not sure what his ability to go into the midfield is like but i really like taranto, doesn't seem to have a big kick but he looks pretty classy. the more i think about this hartlett trade, if we managed to get someone like taranto then marshall, i'd be over the moon.

Midfield depth is an issue yes... But have you seen our key forward stocks lately!?

Lets examine them quickly;

Ryder at 29 yrs old is actually a ruckman and has barely kicked over 100 goals in his entire career. He has also been away from the game for 12 months. Dixon at 26 yrs old is only good for 16-18 games a year and again has barely kicked over 100 goals in his career. They're our first choice key forwards. Now lets look to the seconds; Howard (another ruckman) currently rehabilitating a blown knee and.... Nothing. Nada. Zip.

But hey, lets draft 4 midfielders!

For some reason I think Harvey Keitel.

"If I'm curt with you, it's because time is a factor. I think fast, I talk fast, and I need you two guys to act fast if you want to get out of this. So pretty please, with sugar on top, clean the f@#king car."

One of the all time great lines.

Yep lets draft 4 midfielders!

If both English and Marshall are gone by our first pick, which right now you'd say is very probable, there is no point reaching for someone just because they are tall.

Ultimately, if we can get a 2nd first rounder and end up with 1 tall and 1 mid then it's best case scenario.

I don't know what it is about Tim Taranto but every time I see him I think of Ben Jacobs.

Do not want.

Ben Jacobs as in will turn out shit, or Ben Jacobs will leave after 2 years because Vic Metro?

Don't care about English, and happy to let the others squabble over Marshall.

I agree though that the dream result would be two first round picks one of which we use to take a tall, either Battle or Kerr (my preference being Battle).

I'd love to take the pair if we could!

See KM has us potentially bidding on Scheer at 9. Surely it's in clubs interest to make them pay the maximum price and in the unlikely event they didn't match you would still be getting a top line player.

The latter.

I saw him on Future Stars and IIRC he looked liked he'd just caught wind of a Silent But Violent from Wallet when asked about the prospect of being drafted interstate.

I shouldn't be so quick to judge though, DBJ is from f@#king Camberwell of all places and he's proven himself to be a hard-nosed legend.

Exactly right. Scheer at 9 is possibly a bit high for a bid for him, but if I was Brisbane, i'd be bidding on Bowes with pick 2 and i've got my fingers crossed someone bids on Perryman or Setterfield before GWS's pick 7.

If we can trade Hartlett for another first rounder I would love to get Brodie. Any chance to slide? Another Vic Country inside mid to get in alongside Ollie to extract. Frees up Boak to get more outside.
Anything can happen in the draft. But having said that, no chance Brodie slides that far. I probably rate him over McLovin'.

Yeah and I will play the same game

Boak and Gray are 28, we only have one other quality mid in Wines and you need 5-6 quality mids.

Give me Lockett and Ablett in the forward line and it will mean shite if the ball not getting down there. Good quality mids to be had this year and good quality talls to be had next year.

If Essendon pick McLuggage there is every chance that Brodie slides. Brisbane no guarantee to pick him. It could as an example look like:

Ess 1. McLuggage
Bris 2. Bowes bid > GC 2. Bowes
Bris 3. Ainsworth
Fre 4. English
Car 5. McGrath
Rich 6. Setterfield bid > GWS 6. Setterfield
Rich 7. Marshall
GC 8. Brodie/SPS
PA 9. SPS/Brodie

Hindsight is a beautiful thing, Darling was selected at pick 26, wasn't seen as a 1st round talent.
Also Battle has had 35 shots on goal in 7 games at TAC cup level, as I said earlier Dodoro on the weekend was at the game watching Battle play in the final where he kicked 6.3 and said he will be gone before Essendons pick 19, so recruiters are saying he is a 1st round talent.

I read that Darling was highly rated but had question marks about his attitude, sort of like the same reasons buddy slipped to hawks when they rated him the best talent in the draft.
