Unfortunately this is not as easy as it seems.

Well looking at the Scharenberg video he is a terrible kick yet people here are excited about the idea of taking him in the second round? You've got to be kidding me?

We have enough ball burners, no more please.

As I pointed out , his 2-3 worst kicks were rushed, you can train that out. But his best kicks though I don't think we're great, I don't think he has good touch

He would be no worse a kick than any other mid we have bar wingard and polec so if he is a better mid than most on our list he would be a good pick up

But I am certainly in the camp of believing kicking skills should be our priority

The bolded can be said of Slimming too, Villis is probably a better kick though?

I think Slimming can rush his kicks sometimes, but has the potential to become a really good kick

Subiaco forward Hamish Shepheard could be a decent pick up as a depth KPF.

198cm and 101kg, he has kicked 51 goals from 21 games in the WAFL and will be playing in the WAFL GF this week.

would we have a look?

He's an interesting one, but not sure I see him going onto succeed in the AFL. Not overly athletic and a bit agricultural - guess what I'm trying to get at is there's something about him that makes me feel as though he belongs a level down from the elite.

But hey, have been surprised by players with lesser performance and apparent potential so who knows!

Do people think we should take another look at Mason Shaw?

I haven't seen any of his footage from this year, but at his size and age (same age as Clurey and Wines) his results from this year are hard to ignore, especially given that it was probably his first full season without injury.

Edit: it looks like he may not have kicked any goals in his last two finals matches. Finished on 51 from 23 games

Yep there's a lot of Jack Redpath about Shepeard. His advantage over most other state league forwards is that he's physically ready and a genuine KPP. Could be a chance.

I watched Mason Shaw in his losing prelim final on the weekend and I remembered why he was delisted. Laconic to the point of lazy and still not physically ready to play AFL. Admittedly it was a heavy loss and he matched up against Sam Collins who played much of the season for Fremantle but I think Shaw has found his level.

Liam Ryan is by far the best forward going around in the WAFL though. Watch him start being talked about as a late first round prospect in the lead up to the draft, especially if he has a big grand final.

Very Eddie Betts like with his ability 1v1 and above his head for a crumbing forward.

Yep he's everything you want in a small forward. I think it will translate too, so could easily see a club taking him in the 20-40 range.

"Should re draft mason shaw?
He kicked x goals in the WAFL this year""

I have a feeling I'm going to hear this every off season for a while

Yep. If there was even a skerrick of a chance that Shaw would make it as an AFL player, he wouldn't have been delisted.

He would surely not have another look at us, more likely Freo I would think.

Two members of our 2004 premiership team were delisted. 2005 premiership captain Brett Kirk was once delisted. Brent Guerra is a two time premiership player and he was delisted twice. Clubs make mistakes.

Averaging 11 disposals and 1.7 tackles per game. What's his work rate like?

Also looks like he can be a little erratic in front of goal?

Nevertheless, he certainly hits the scoreboard and is only 20.

Clubs do make mistakes I agree. I just don't think it has happened here and certainly not with Shaw's efforts while at the club.

There were issues outside of footy that saw Guerra leave us.

I want him.

I want him bad

Looks like we could go from pick 9 to about 14 or 15 with academy picks. This is the inactive order and sounds like the AFL will give Brisbane a priority pick, probably part of the deal to get Nobel and co up there and to deny Essendon the no.1 pick for marketing/PR purposes.

Round one
1 Essendon
2 Brisbane Lions
3 Fremantle
4 Gold Coast
5 Carlton
6 Richmond
7 Greater Western Sydney (received from Collingwood)
8 Gold Coast (received from Melbourne)

and Knightmare who is probably the best of bigfooty's phantom drafters currently is rating the following from his edits on Sunday

https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/knightmares-2016-draft-almanac.1131236/

8. Will Setterfield (NSW/ACT - GWS Academy)
11. Brad Scheer (QLD - Gold Coast Academy)
12. Kobe Mutch (NSW/ACT - GWS Academy)

We won't drop to 14 or 15. Bowes will likely be bid on before GCs 2nd pick so we won't drop there. GWS have a pick before us so if someone does bid on one of those players then we won't drop a pick. Scheer and especially Mutch would be next to no chance of being bid on before our first pick.

Those players aren't available to us anyway if GWS and Gold Coast want them so it doesn't matter. We're playing blackjack with the rest of the competition while anyone who makes academy bids are playing poker - same playing cards, completely different rules.

I understand that, but we wont be drafting what the industry considers the 9th best player.
