wouldn't mind using our third on Jordan Sweet. North lad at 205cm 100+kg. Nice project to work with.
He's Charlie Dixon sized and can mark a ball with his face (saw him do it pre-season training).
Seriously tho' I was singing his praises back then. I like Luke Reynolds too. Those calling for a tough mid fielder
well with DBJ nailing down a HBFer role maybe try Clurey in the mid field for the Maggies in a role currently done
by Louis Sharrad.

I think Reynolds will be on our and other clubs radar. Classy footballer that's shown enough to at least strongly consider listing him.

its s stupid idea and not needed, history has shown that if teams tank they arent gaining anything but disrepect because the difference between the first 7 players in the draft is usually minimal, and very little difference between 1st & 2nd. The quality that the draft pick becomes has as much to do with the club as it has to do with the player.

It has good points and bad points. What I like is that it's helping the teams that are long term bottom of the ladder. A top team can have a real shitty run with injuries for a year, and end up with a top pick. Or with the disparity of the draw a team with a real good list can go worse than what they really are. The draw has a way of smoothing over cracks if is an easy one. This is why this three year system will suit that.

The tanking issue wasn't really In my mind. I don't care about that.

This on the Collywobble's board about Aish "Doesnt win contested football, slow, and not terribly hard at the contest.", glad we didn't get him and we don't need any more of that type.
Always thought ^ about him, likes bruise free footy like his uncle/father Michael did. On Collingwood I think they traded
this year and next 1st round picks for Treloar.

Aish is another Toumpass. Great youngster, but jury is a long way out on how good they will be. This is mainy cos of body limitations for the modern game (ie not quick enough to be the player they are suited for)

Aish looked alright as a junior playing down row H of the grandstand with noone near him but he never had the pace to be able to play as that sort of outside runner at AFL level and I think quite a few people mentioned their concerns as to what position he might play. Doesnt have the body size or the natural inside instincts to change his game. The Toumpas comparison is pretty accurate.

Average year - 2017 will be stronger by all accounts.

Its not bad this year. Its the lack of talls at the moment which is dragging it down but plenty of strong smalls available.

Tim English Tall forward/ruckman 203cm/86kg 10/8/97 South Fremantle/Western Australia English has caught the attention of recruiters this season with a run of encouraging performances. The 'over-ager' was eligible for last year's draft but focused on school football, but has shown his rapid improvement for South Fremantle so far in 2016. The ruckman is mobile and gets around the ground, and also has a presence near goal. The championships will be a good test to see where he sits against quality defenders.

Whoever we pick, I would like to see the first one be a defender. Austin is not coming on as we would like, Bobby is injury prone and slow and there is always the possibility Trengove may be called to ruck again. Another ruckman would be nice too but I don't think that needs to be our first. Most years we have selected best available, or what appeared to be the best available but this year I think we should draft for needs.
A tall marking defender would fit the bill and Josh Rotham appears to be the best defender available. Hopefully Port do not draft a midfielder and attempt to make him a defender. Previously attempts(Salopek, Hartlett, Pearce, both Burgoynes) have been made to turn midfielders into defenders and apart from Shaun Burgoyne these have failed.

Um... He's a second year tall on the verge of a debut ??

If not for some ludicrous selection decisions, Austin should have played 2-3 games this year.

Was on the emergencies list last year before his season ending injury. Saying he's not coming on as expected is a shocking call.

1 vote for Tim English just because we haven't had a good Tim at the club for a long time. For the first 20 odd years of my football watching experience at least one high quality Tim in the team was a constant

Difference being he cost Collingwood three 2nd round picks & we got Jimmy for a packet of chips downgrade of our 2nd, Aish is a little younger but also has shown much less to say he'll get close to the hype that came pre draft.

Fwiw I think both him & Toumpas will get there but for what we paid compared to them I'm much more comfortable given Jimmy's shown he can play decent enough footy & slot into our best 22 if needed.

The fact Aish can't get a look in that side we just belted despite all their injuries says quite a lot about how far off it he is.

Two shoulder recons and only one AFL game so far..possibly a bit early to judge don't you think?

Ventured down south to watch the Panthers v North last week. North have a pretty good 202cm ruck/forward - Barnes. Takes a good mark.
Harvey was good as well - kicked four goals - however he really struggles with his body... slow and un-athletic but could make it back to afl one day

Harvey's never going to be an AFL player. Doesn't have the work-rate required and is more interested in getting on the piss.
