Yeah I strongly hope we get one of Taranto or sps at pick 9

I feel both those players have attributes that will see them make it at afl level , have skills that we need , can run through the midfield in the future. They are my big big big wants at pick 9. I would still have them as our wants if we were picking at 3-5 to be honest.

19 and 30 are interesting.

Do we grab one of battle or Marshall if they are available?

At these picks I'm heavily interested in drew (feel he is going to be one of those solid 2nd tier mids but not a star) , gallucci ( could be a fringe ok mid or could put it together to be a star, he is one of few I think could become elite) , berry (I wouldn't pick him at 9 to be honest but 19 if he lasted yes) , Clarke (at 30 not 19) , Powell pepper (would love to add him with one of those second rounders I think Powell pepper is a contributor at worst or near elite at best and I would love to take those odds at this pick) florent (at 30 if he lasts I feel florent is a hit or miss could be really good)

Marshall could be a Fyfe moment.

Can we please keep this thread happy and hopeful? It's all that we're left with now. Every potential draftee needs to have a perfect blend of speed and endurance, great big muscles, perfect disposal and a license in riding unicorns.
No negativity or reality in this thread from now on.

Pick 9, Port Adelaide Football Club - Richard Tambling.

9: Small, speedy inside midfielder.
19: Small, speedy player who could loosely be described as a midfielder, but will be molded into a halfback.
30: Small, speedy forward, who will be stuck behind Jake Neade and wind up delisted in two years.

Reality check.

best 3 mids for me, i mean mids - not flankers
I'd still like us to go mid, Battle or Kerr, mid (and agree with your comment about no flankers).
I'd also like us to work hard to turn AhChee into Barrett in the next two days, somehow pick up Black for magic beans and then to use pick 49 on best available.

The way it is shaping up, GC will get 10 from Hawthorn as part of the O'Meara trade and 6 from Richmond as part of the Prestia trade. Will GWS get 5 from Carlton for Pickett and Marchbank? Probably. If so expect the top 10 to be-

1 ES McCluggage
2 GWS McGrath
3 BL SPS [I don't expect Brisbane to bid on Bowes]
4 GC Brodie [need class mids to replace O'Meara and Prestia]
5 GWS Marshall [they rate him highly- they have Setterfield and Perryman stitched up as academy prospects and just landed McGrath at 2- they don't need more midfielders but have to replace Stewart and McCarthy]
6 GC Ainsworth
7 FR English [they traded down from 3 because they believed the player they really wanted would be available at 7- this only makes sense for English]
8 GC Schrimshaw [I can't see anyone bidding yet on Bowes, so with him locked away with a later pick and Brodie and Ainsworth in the bag they will look to a defender/midfielder. If not, Louge is a big chance here too]
9 PA Taranto [we may bid on Bowes, Setterfield and Perryman but the bids will be matched]

I think we get a slider at 9 based on GWS and GC having academy mids locked away and Fremantle wanting English. In a way, we don't want Tarranto taken earlier and SPS to slide because then Freo have to take him at 7 leaving us with Berry or English.

Conclusion: Taranto at best, Berry at worst at 9.
Either one of Berry or Taranto would be great imo.

Hi Macca19 what are your thoughts on potential players that we now have 19 and 30?

I think 19 opens up some good possibilities. We can go best available mid with pick 9 and we could well get Marshall at 19. If not Marshall, then i'd be looking at the likes of Berry, Powell-Pepper, Witherden with 19. Gallucci another option.

30 i'd be keen on Brennan Cox, Josh Battle will be there but i've cooled on him a bit. In terms of mids, two locals in Villis and Scharenberg will be there. Someone like Dylan Clarke should be there who's a real ball magnet. There may be a slider as well, we may see someone like Simpkin, Venables slide down a bit.

I think it will take a might effort to **** this draft up.

Black would be handy and Barrett too, i heard barratt was at Alberton a couple of weeks back but it's all gone quiet since.

I think this heigh lights a flaw with the academy system which does make it a bit unfair, i think if you pass on an academy player to draft a non-academy player and another club bids on that academy player (in that round you shouldn't have to use a first round pick on a second round quality player) you should loose the right to pick them up.

as seen above GWS draft 2 cute guns, passing on academy players, then get them anyway when another club wants them. same with the GCs.

say the GC do take Scrimshaw and we bit on Bowes (or Setterfield, after the giants 2 picks). the AFL should say GC you had your chance you took some one else and GWS you had 2 picks and passed with both.

Any chance of English sliding to 19

Grundy did

Hopefully mutch, battle, kerr or cox at 19
Best available pure mid at 9

Macca19 now we can get mids with our first 3 picks or a KPP and a couple of mids, it opens up the game for us to take your boy Max Lynch at 40 something.

Nah its easy, just use best available recruiting and thus get flankers, 'preferably' undersize

Let's hope they have learned from past mistakes.
Why would they? Just yesterday I'm reading on here that we've done great with later picks the last couple of years. But what player types have we picked again?
