I agree but we tend to grab them well below their original market value. Jacko the only one to really work out though.
Redden, Butcher, Jacobs, Newton are 4 that immediately sprung to mind when I made my original post and I'm sure if I dig around I'd find there are 2,3 or 4 others.

We do draft lots of blokes, not the majority, but a significant percentage who have one major injury of lots of problems eg hamstrings and missed a big chunk of the year we draft them in. This would be consistent with what we have done since we drafted Jacko in 2008 who slide from top 10-15 to 22 due to his knee injury all through to Johnson last year who had multiple hamstring issues and play only a handful of games.
I actually don't mind this logic, a highly rated player that has dropped in the draft order due to injury. Both Witherden and Simpkin were touted as potential top 10 picks prior to suffering broken legs. Depending on the severity of the injury I would assume both are likely to make a fully recovery. Recruiters have been following these kids for 3 or 4 years prior so can still select them with some confidence. Maybe that's what we're thinking, move down the draft order but still pick kids who are top 10 on talent.

I thought Marshall was really poor in the game I saw however I've swung to the conclusion that we need to pick him if available at pick 14. It was his first serious season of football and he had no preseason. I don't like any of the other forwards much. We have 4 picks in the top 30. Using one of the picks isn't a big risk. If he turns into a good forward in a couple of years and we didn't pick him then everyone will retrospectively mock us as buffoons.

I would like to throw another name up there that's Jordan gallucci. we desperately need blokes who can actually kick the pill. Theres no footage of witherden due to his broken leg who im keen on and is described as classy. Galluci however, Starting at 45 seconds, as a bottom ager gives me an immediate. Good leap, skills, xfactor and pace all shown in that one play. Very low to the ground

Agree from what I have read of top 50, Gallucci is one player I would be keen on...seems to have attributes we want

Marshall is very difficult to get a grip on- is it just hype or does he have the tools to make it? It is almost the case that the AFL should not allow anyone over 197cm to be drafted until a year later but that would be heightist. In 12 months though, we will have a fair idea if this was a boom or bust selection.

Sydney may pounce with our pick anyway. Even though Franklin is contracted to play until he is 42, they are likely to lose X.Richards and need another tall forward.

I am not sure which game you saw but in that all stars game he was moving a lot slower than he did earlier in the year. His body looked like it was running on empty.
His TAC cup coach told recruiters a month before the all stars game that due to having no pre-season he was "cooked". Still kicked 2 goals from his only 2 kicks.

I remember what put me off on marshall in the all stars game is that whenever he got the ball the first thing he did was go backwards, he rarely took possesion turned and looked up the field he always handballed backwards which is lazy.

Yep. I went to the all stars game. That's why I think sps is a star and why I rate Powell pepper, florent, and Bolton higher than they might deserve. It made me think scharenberg! agley and drew are shockers and confirmed that I really want Clarke at port. Anyway, it's not often you get a shot at a decent forward so we need to take Marshall even if his game was poor. I'm glad there are reasons. Even if he is a project we don't have any other options.

Who's got Geoff Parker's number (is he the one looking at our draft targets)?

I've just been spending some well paid work $ to run through the potential draft picks on you tube and after seeing them I've changed tack slightly on who I want anyway, not that Geoff would give a toss what I think :(:).

Not sure what order they'd go but I know they'd be 'around' the mark for our 4 picks.

Sam Powell-Pepper (aka SPP) = speed, flair, run, aggression. This guy reminds me a lot of a fella from Richmond named Dustin Martin and could play games next year. I would be very happy to hear his name called out by PAFC come draft night.

Oliver Florent (aka OF) = class, smarts, clean hands. This kid while only slight of frame would add some polish to our team but may need to add some size/strength ready for 2018.

Patrick Kerr (aka PK) = nice size, good hands, straight lead, good set shot. PK will be a very good player in years to come and while Josh Battle may compliment out team better with Dixon as he roams more, Kerr is more of a genuine full forward. Still think he would be a worthy pick.

Atley looks solid, strong, energetic and ready to play. Berry looks a little more lankier and a little less composed but I may have seen some bad highlights, Bolton is another who I like similar to SPP who also has a nice kick, speedy, flair and likes to run.

If those 3 guys above are picked by us then I'll buy beers for all ya's at the first game (just one each though) :beermug:

from memory kerr looked like he had no confidence in his kicking. Gallucci looked like a meh player with average kicking. I thought b. cox and sproule looked promising for a 30, 31 pick of the talls.

My big query over Kerr is his pace. He looks very slow, but love his leading, kicking action is good and hes got good hands

sounds a bit like Mitch Harvey.

Nah, Harvey was a bigger body and far heavier, with a much smaller tank. Kerr just doesn't have burst off the mark type acceleration.

Lot of people maligning Kerr for being a bit vanilla as a KPF, but I really like him if he's available at 30. He just seems like he really fits in with a team structure and plays his role which should allow him to adapt at SANFL/AFL level really well.

I know many rate Marshall but I don't see what the fuss is about. For me a KPF needs to be a naturally good kick for goal. Marshall isn't that imho, so I wouldn't be taking him with one of our first 2 picks.

Look at the contesred marking, the pace, the defensive ability and i do think hes an ok kick. Moves the ball around too much in his run up but is fixable imo.

Hes pure potential

14: witherden; i believe simpkin will be taken by north as they need some much needed class and a small forward after wells is gone, nahas delisted and flop thomas. Otherwise marshall would go to syd or to north. Our injured 'who' player
17: venables; too much potential, we've been rumoured to have rated him highly

30:kerr; i believe marshall and battle will be gone by here leaving kerr the only worthwhile forward. Ran a sub 3 second 20m, over distance he may be slower but good hands size kick
31; now this is where things get difficult. Do we massively reach liam ryan, or the much hyped parfitt. I believe neither and we'll go with a big bodied mid in a midfielders draft; graham or clarke. Both have poorish footskills i think we'll take graham having had him when the ais trained with port aswell as the sa connection.

POS: Midfielder/half-forward, Ht 186cm, Wt 83kg, DOB 8/1/98
From East Perth/Western Australia

Powell-Pepper is all power and strength. He's a bull at stoppages, pushes past players at the clearances and gets the ball moving his team's way. His kicking has been questioned at different stages but he won the goalkicking test at the combine (he was the only player to get a perfect score) and backed it up athletically, running 14.7 in the beep test and third in the agility test (8.24 seconds). Powell-Pepper was probably Western Australia's most consistent player this

Had best provide a link to where you got this. Forum rules.

I'm liking Powel Pepper , Battle , Kerr , Marshall so far I'd be happy for either or all of them at this stage .
P-P looks good and I can see his Martin comparison , maybe a bit more speed and his disposal looks a little scrappy but has some tricks along with a strong body , not sure if he'd be a centre square mid or more of a wing / half forward . Marshall and Kerr look like full forward types although depending if he fills out or not could do a Westhoff style , his marking looked good and has the extra height . Kerr looks more your old fashioned lead ,mark and have a shot style , looks pretty good though .
Battle looks good too as a roaming forward who could push right back and help out the defence .

Heard really good things about left footer Dylan Whimpress. 188cm and still growing and can play defence, middle and forward.
Draft video clips dont do him justice apparently. Anyone seen him play? Rookie?
