Scharenberg to me looks like a sure fire 150 game player. Whether he'll progress to being a top 3 mid on the list or stay around the 5th, 6th best mid is the question. A very safe choice, especially if he's there at 30.

I think Sproule could be the best key forward in this draft, but GWS will grab him for sure.

Two things would work if they happen. We grab Scharenberg at 31 or the Crows reach for him at 13.

I reckon Logue's fitness base, counterattack and genuine KPD height make him an exception you might make, particularly with Bobby gone. I'm not all confident he'd make it to 14 personally.

Might be a Crowbot at 13

I really like the look of Logue, he seems like a guaranteed player but I don't see Adelaide taking him though.

I'd be very surprised if the Crers don't target a genuine mid considering it's clearly their biggest weakness, especially after missing out on Gibbs and shipping off Lyons for a Maxibon with the biscuit half already eaten.

They already have guys like Smith, Lever and Seedsman as tallish rebounding half backs.

Don't know.

From what I have read this year's draft appears to be deep-ish for midfielder types. However, it sounds as if not many of them are expected to be out and out stars by the time our picks come around. Next year for talls but by the time our picks come into play the better ones will be gone.

Given that others will be focusing on midfieders, are we in the position to take a punt this year and draft the best talls available with all 4 picks?
Long term wise it may work well as usually there will be a smokey in there somewhere.

Obviously not the best idea short term wise.

I just don't like the depth in tall forwards at all to do that

If you wanted to use our picks to go kpp crazy in this draft you would be better going backmen
Target Marshall then backmen , Logue , cox , maibum and rotham.

But I wouldn't do that

This is a draft stacked with inside ready made midfield talent and I think that is exactly why we bought into it

I highly suspect we are heavily into parffit and sharenberg and it's the depth and the fact we are sure they are gonna slide that we made the moves we did. I think those two are odds on to be port players next season.

I think the crows could bite on English if he makes it to 13, or can see them liking scrimshaw or Logue as Logue has a bit of height at 195 they don't have much height back there. Probably will go someone like spp or drew but to honest I think witherdon could be there guy as well. My nightmare will be if sps slips to them. Marshall could be around that mark. In all honesty after doedee last year I'm expecting the same this year. They will call a name that surprises.

I think they have a heap of potential rucks in their reserves but could take ladhams at 43 if they don't like the mids there.

Don't tease me, AFL.

I think Sproule could be the best key forward in this draft, but GWS will grab him for sure.
So GWS will use pick 2 on McGrath, depending on how the other clubs bid, is it possible they'll run out of points picking up Setterfield, Perryman and Macreadie to be able to pick up Sproule? They've got 2 kids next year who are likely top 10 in Spargo and Brander so may not want to go into points debit. This is what I'm hoping for anyway...

Nah, they'll go into deficit if need be, and if they do, it won't be by much. Plus they already have two extra second round picks next year for points.

They also might not have access to Brander, but will likely have to pony up for Nathan Richards.

Yeah thats kinda why I think they should go for Logue :P

Oliver Florent's dad was former Australian tennis player Andrew who died of cancer this year. Emma Quayle (of course) did a great human interest story on Oliver and how he coped with his father's passing. Kid has great character.

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/tradin...t-is-inspired-by-him-too-20161007-grxnaz.html

Florent was 15 when his father was diagnosed with stage-four bowel cancer, early in 2013. It had spread to his liver, and the prognosis was not good. "I was told I was going to lose my dad in months," he said, "and I always thought I had so much more to do with him. I still feel like we have missed out on so much. But he gave me three years he wasn't meant to have and by the end it felt selfish to want more. He's always going to be here with me. I'm so lucky to have had him."

"He was getting up to go to the toilet and you're not supposed to be able to get up at that stage of life. People were saying, how is he doing this, and they said it was unbelievable," he said. "The things I saw him have to go through, no-one should have to go through. No-one should even see. But he's pretty much my inspiration. Nothing is as hard as what he went through. Footy is easy, compared to all that.

"I was laying there listening to his heartbeat thinking, 'I could never be more proud of you,' and it's hard to explain because I wish he was still here. There are all these things we never got to do, but we said everything to each other. There was nothing I had left to say."

Ah.

Yeah I bet Boaky has been in his ear for a while.

I am prepared to bet a good amount of beers that we will take Marshall with our pick 14... and the melts around here would be delicious.

I dont mind it. If hes there I would take him

As long as we don't blow the other 3 picks on skinny flankers I'm sure most people will be fine with it. He's far from my favourite but he has some very good attributes, such as his marking and attack on the footy, so he could prove to be an inspired pick once he's put a bit of mass on.

Marshall will not improve our side in 2017 so if we take him it's for the long game.

spot on. Wont play next year, and prob wont impact for a couple years at least... but he has good attributes.

+1. Kerr isnt good enough to be taken at 14 or 17 will most likely go to richmond after delisting mcbean and losing vickery. Battle maybe at 17 but would rather a ball using mid. Sproule gws after those 3 crickets absoloutly nobody. Leaving us with no developing tall after butch and schulz have departed doesnt make sense
To go into a season with a reserves forward line of frampton and a mature age recruit like eddy or cameron. Cripps even said we have a certain look theyre after; question is what happens when the clubs infront of us take a punt on him

He could be gone anyway.

Gold Coast have 4 picks inside the top 10 so they can afford to take the gamble and wait for him to come on. I can even see Freo taking him if someone cuts their lunch with SPS.

I'm excited about our draft hopes this year. I just hope the club has an eye on the future and picks the best players that cover our weakest positions in the next 4-6 years. We can't fix our current problems in the draft to push for a premiership in the next couple years.

Sadly I'm not sure our recruiting staff are that smart.

I've resigned myself to the fact none of the gws academy kids will be going anywhere else. Theyve set their picks up so they can literally get all of them
You said they had 11 list spots open. Are there 11 worth picking? Geez it is a big risk having 1 quarter of your team as first year draftees.

Also, 11 open positions on their list makes it seem unlikely that barrett will get delisted as well.

Will Hayward kicks 9 for North in the u18 prelim final. Dare I say, number 10 for North Adelaide causing a few flashbacks?

How easy must list management be for GWS, you know who you're going to get in the draft 2 years out! Trade week is about filling any gaps...
