Id like us to pick up another ruck with any of our picks. Not just due to the glaring importance it had this year but frampton has had the tendency to already break down. In 2007/8 we picked up ruckman in consecutive drafts even though we still had lade; in case one of them didnt work out which was the case in jarrad redden
Due to injury

Not on ability but list wise. Right now
Redden=frampton
Lade=ryder
Brogan= lobbe
^dont take this too seriously/literally

So we really do need another ruck. Not looking it too much because its way too early but sweet seems like a jarrad witts type big boy who with the right forwards coach can play resting in that position. Ladhams has good tap work but poor around the ground ala lobbe.

That being said with our first apparently there are a plethora of good mids so a tallish 187cm+ goal kicker with our first would be handy

I'm not keen on us reaching or paying a high pick for a ruck but with a mid to late pick in the draft if a player looks like he might be a good choice them grab him.

Tim English , Goddard , and sa kids sweet and ladhams. If one of these kids is available with a late pick why not, but I hope we add some young mids too.

Problem is Framton is nowhere near ready to ruck at AFL level, to ruck at AFL level he needs to add another 10+kgs of lean muscle.

Ventured down south to watch the Panthers v North last week. North have a pretty good 202cm ruck/forward - Barnes. Takes a good mark.
Harvey was good as well - kicked four goals - however he really struggles with his body... slow and un-athletic but could make it back to afl one day
Alex Barns? Used to play for Port before the reserves structure came in.

Scharenberg a chance at out pick 1 if not traded away for Neale:

Not sure what scharenbergs wheelhouse is though. Like a good all rounder?

Jack graham is meant to be a half back midfielder with a nice burst of speed and is a strong lad. Racking up a tonne of the ball so far in champs which I love in a young mid. Proven ability to find a bunch of it sits well with me.

Just a guess but both guys seem like they could go anywhere from pick 8-20. Think Jonty might be one of those sliders and graham a bit of a riser.

Drew kicked a nice goal. Looks a good size.

McLuggage and Brodie delivered that quarter. Can see why both are very highly rated. Brodie has a lot of Shane Tuck about him.

Metro twice come back from 4 goals down to win by 2 points with 50 seconds left. Classic match!

I didn't get to see all of it, but I'm definitely a Will Brodie fan now.

EDIT: Also really like Venables. Seems to be a big moment player. Not sure if he's exactly the type we need as he seems more of a forward than a midfielder, but looks the goods.

EDIT 2: Most write ups seem to say Venables is an inside mid. I'm very interested now.

Venables and Pretrovski-Seton look like good types for us. Aggressive, explosive players who can play inside and push forward.

Scrimshaw and McCluggage are hard to go past, those two can play and seem like excellent users.

Petrevski-Seton is sliding a bit, which is only a good thing as far as I'm concerned. Dunno if it's due to injury or form or what (he's been sidelined by a hamstring). He's my number one most wanted if we can get him.

Getting my hyphens mixed up, meant Powell-Pepper. Seton more that classy outside type, been injured but still viewed as a potential top five pick.

Powell-Pepper looks great. Need to see more of Venables, wasnt overly impressive today. Reminds me of Ben Lennon too much

I think with an early pick you need to heavily favour people who are producing , and I'm not seeing consistant production from Venables

I only watched from mid first to early 3rd qtr.

Mcluggage looks like a star. Does everything much cleaner. His ability seems most sure to translate to the next level. Will go top 1-4 so out of our reach

Brodie looked great as well. What I saw didn't scream number one mid or afl star but good mid who will be a strong component of his team. Will go before our pick.

William drew. I was looking for this kid. I switched off before his goals so missed that but I liked what I saw of him around packs. Seemed to want to work both ways. Looked a footballer. I think he should be available around our pick as I'm not sure of his draft range but would be a contributor. Like to know what people think of his athleticism and footskills.

McGrath looked like he was everywhere. Obviously has the engine and the work rate. Could be that spread midfielder we need. Only 179cms though. Love to know what his footskills are like too because he sure knows how to find the pill.

Gallucci looked a gun. For a guy who I thought was an outside player who can hurt you he didn't seem to mind a bit of contact. I read comments on the d and t boards that mentioned he needed to find more of it and be more consistant and it seems he has done that lately.

Battle. Didn't see much of him, that shove out and mark showed a good read and strength. Liked it. Looks a solid lad who will be stronger then most when he gets into an afl program. Lots have him sliding due to his height ,many question marks over him not being a number one key forward but if he slides to a pick between 25-40 he would be a great pick up for port as we could use a strong hard running key forward next to a tall bull like Dixon. I hope we can trade into that range in the draft.

Liked what they had to say about scrimshaw (sounds a bit like homsch lite) and think there are some tall prospects that are worth taking with 4th round and rookie picks like Duman or Mitch Macarthy.

Didnt see much Hombsch in Scrimshaw personally. I reckon hes like an Andrew Mackie but looks capable of playing as an inside mid. Has crazy agility for his size and could see him developing into a Patrick Cripps type.

im liking Brodie, mcluggage , and what I hear about sps but think they are all gone before our pick.

188cm vic country William drew. Described by knightmare as a clearance and tackling machine and I like his two way work. Metro 179cm McGrath who is elite at finding the pill and quick and clean. Metro 183 cm gallucci and sa's jack graham are my favs for our first pick right now.

Think any of those four have afl qualities and are fairly safe bets as far as mid first draft picks goes to be afl players and all four offer something port needs in their midfield.

Didn't mean so much in what I saw of him but everything I've heard is he is pretty neat ball user by foot, moves well and smart player as a third tall defender is why I said hombsch. I'm not sure whether he has hombsch ability to read the flight of the ball in the air which hombsch has to an elite level allowing him to get a fist in.

What did you think of battle?

I can see why he would slide , and don't think we should bite with our first either if some of these mids are available , but if he is around in the second round I think he could suit us next to Dixon , and looks physically ready to play soon as well. If he has as good a tank as they say it's really a matter if he knows how to get to the right place in a contest. I don't mind if he doesn't have great burst off the mark if he can get to the right spots

If we get petrevski-seton its pants down laps around the table. Saw him absolutely light it up against sa in last years carnival when I was watching bonner closely. Jet, has class. Though with picking up Johnson and amon coming along I don't think we need him, I want him though.
Powell-Pepper is hard as nails which I think we need as depth. We saw what happened to the sanfl team when ah chee is left on his own when gray is in the afl team or vice versa. I know we're not recruiting for sanfl but it'd be good to have someone compete against ah chee as a big bodied mid and who doesn't like a tallish goal kicking mid
