Didn't mean so much in what I saw of him but everything I've heard is he is pretty neat ball user by foot, moves well and smart player as a third tall defender is why I said hombsch. I'm not sure whether he has hombsch ability to read the flight of the ball in the air which hombsch has to an elite level allowing him to get a fist in.

What did you think of battle?

I can see why he would slide , and don't think we should bite with our first either if some of these mids are available , but if he is around in the second round I think he could suit us next to Dixon , and looks physically ready to play soon as well. If he has as good a tank as they say it's really a matter if he knows how to get to the right place in a contest. I don't mind if he doesn't have great burst off the mark if he can get to the right spots

Battle is an interesting one. Did the best 3km of anyone in the academy earlier this year. A 10:02 I think they said. Pretty impressive.

He didn't have a great game today and seems to play in parts/pieces. Has a good 10 minutes then goes missing for 2 quarters, then another big 10 minutes. He's very much like Darling in terms of body shape. Big and wide.

I wouldnt be against him with our first pick, but think we need to go short instead. Powell-Pepper might be there. Drew will be there. Scharenberg & Graham will be there. We'll have plenty of options.

How did you like galluci and McGrath ?

I don't know why people are shitting on this draft. Sure there isn't the obvious Future brown low winners but plenty of exciting players to me

Its better than last years draft imo.

Gallucci was really good. Fell out of it in the middle of the game but his start and finish were outstanding. Real clean ball winner and seems equally good inside or out.

Mcgrath was a star. Reminds me a lot of Wojcinsci from Geelong. Just full on attack, take the game on, have a bounce, great evasive skills and some nice foot skills as well. I see he had a huge game in the middle in the TAC cup, 40 touches and 15 clearances or something ridiculous. Certainly one that should fly up the rankings.

Agree re above. Very good year to be in the hunt for a midfielder. Hopefully we don't go for a flanker type as I rate these mids and think we need help there.

Haven't seen Powell pepper play yet. I don't like that his disposal is apparently questionable though.

I don't think it's questionable. It's not a stand out feature, but I think people get that in their head that because they hear he's a big strong inside focused ball winner and need something to knock.

Jack Graham sounds like a really good prospect - has good size, can use his speed to burst out of a pack (something I think we are missing) and seems to be racking up good numbers at in the under 18 championships too. We seem to like picking up SA under 18 captains as well. Looks like he could be a player who could make an impact in his first year. I noticed he trained with the Power last summer too.

Jordan Sweet
Height: 203cms, Weight: 105kg, DOB: 2/2/1998
Recruited From: North Adelaide
Position: Ruckman

Famous for a 67 hit-out game against Norwood in the SANFL Colts last year, to go along with 18 disposals, five marks and four clearances as a 16-year-old. Jordan Sweet – an AFL Academy product stands at 203cms and is impressively mobile to boot. The athletic ruckman dominates at the hitouts, and finds above-average possessions, but has only done so in the Under 18s. The next step for Sweet is to really add versatility to his game. He can pinch-hit up forward, but he hasn’t dominated games as a forward. That’s part of his development that needs working on. The challenge will be for Sweet to get some runs on the board at league, with his form last year earning him three reserves games, one of which he was in the best. It’ll go a long way to increasing his draft credentials.
Just a ruck we can develop will be ok. We are OK after this season with back up for Paddy wouldn't trade for one.

Did he do the preseason with us this year as part of the afl traineeship program?

Yep, along with Brandan Parfitt and Jack Graham

anyway we can wrangle 2 mid range round 1 picks for our higher rind 1 pick.
GWS? theres and i think geelongs for ours and later picks for points?
We would have around pick 10 and from 10 to about 25 look fairly even.
So give away our pick and later picks for there and geelongs rnd 1 pick.

Try and trade Lobbe, Oshea, archee, s gray of theres any late second round bites etc

Sweet will go later so we'll have a chance there.

Powell-Pepper, Drew or Marshall as a smokey for me

Problem is Framton is nowhere near ready to ruck at AFL level, to ruck at AFL level he needs to add another 10+kgs of lean muscle.

If you look at all our ruckmen and compare them to other teams you will see all of our ruckmen are about 10kg too light and about 3 - 6cm too small. we have

Ryder who is 196cm / 92kg
Lobbe who is 200cm / 97kg
Frampton who is 200cm / 89kg
Howard who is 199cm / 92kg
Hoff who is 199cm / 94kg
Trengove who is 197cm / 94kg

and they are coming up against ruckmen like this:-

Crows - Jacobs who is 202cm / 102kg, Jenkins 199cm / 107kg & Lowden 206cm / 103kg
Lions - S. Martin who is 197cm / 105kg, Phillips 201cm / 100kg
Blues - Kreuzer who is 200cm / 103kg
Colling - Grundy who is 203cm /102kg, Witts 209cm / 111kg, Cox 211kg / 110kg
Essen - Bellchambers who is 202cm / 106kg, Leuenberger 203cm / 103kg
Freo - Sandilands who is 211cm / 119kg, Clarke 203cm / 97kg & Griffen 201kg / 101kg
Cats - Smith who is 206cm / 105kg, Clarke 200cm / 103kg
Suns - Currie 201cm / 99kg, Nicholls 203cm / 102kg
GWS - Mumford 197cm / 107kg, Lobb 206cm / 102kg & Simpson 210cm / 110kg
Hawks - McEvoy 200cm / 102kg, Ceglar 204cm / 98kg & Pittonet 202kg / 101kg
Melb - Gawn 208cm / 111kg, Spencer 203cm / 108kg
Roos - Goldstein 201cm / 103kg & Brown 200cm / 101kg
Tigers - Maric 200cm / 102kg & Hampson 201cm / 106kg
Saints - Longer 202cm / 103kg & Hickey 201cm / 94kg
Swans - Tippett 202cm / 108kg, Nankervis 199cm / 106kg & Sinclair 200cm / 99kg
Eagles - Nic Nat 201cm / 105kg, Lycett 203cm / 103kg & Giles 201cm / 101kg
Dogs - Campbell 200cm / 104kg, Roughead 200cm / 99kg & Minson 199cm / 106kg

now Ryder, Howard & Trengove all have the leap but they don't have the strength to go body on body with someone who is over 100kg of muscle. All 3 would need to put on at least 5kg of muscle

in 2014 Lobbe could go body on body but the last 2 years now he is finding it difficult with all these new ruckmen who are taller and heavier than him. he would need to put on 7 - 10kg of muscle and be like Mumford

Frampton needs to put on about 15kg of muscle so he can have the strength to go body on body with some of the heavier ruckmen.
If we sometimes use Hoff as a ruckman next year then some how he will need to put on at least 5kg

so in the draft if we go for a ruckman it will have to be someone over 200cm and around 100kg + some one like:-
Jordan Sweet (SA – RUC) 203cm - 105kg
Jeremy Goddard (WA – RUC) - 202cm 97kg
Peter Ladhams (SA – RUC) - 202cm 90kg

or the other options is to get a couple of young developing 20yr old, 205cm+/ 100kg Americans and give them 3 years or so with the magpies

for the draft I think we will need to go tall in either the main draft or the rookie draft ..

we need another developing ruckman (to go with Frampton)

we also need a couple of key forwards seeing how we delisted Shaw & Harvey last year and we don't know what will happen with Butch this year. also with Schulzy over 30 and Hoff 30 we need to play for when they have retired

the other concern is Carlile as he is getting on as well (and when he retires) we have Austin and Clurey and it wouldn't hurt to have another developing KPD

we could look at some in the draft that can play a number of positions like - Luke Strnadica (WA – KPF/RUC) for example ...

I would like Sweet and Ladhams, Parfitt and Graham. I would be VERY interested in down grading our first for 2 first rounders, then Snapping up Graham and Parfitt in the first (Powel-Pepper if one of the two aren't available) and then Ladhams following and Sweet later

Hopefully Sweet is there for our third rounder hasn't been lighting the championships on fire yet. Graham looks very good stats wise aswell wouldn't mind 2 sa boys this year. Especially a big ruck/forward

Agree completely about our ruckman. It's why I can't view Ryder as a full ruck replacement. He is an outstanding ruck, but as the game wears on, especially with fewer rotations, it'a the big guys who will not get shorter.
