Those really are damning numbers. If you look at all our ruckmen and compare them to other teams you will see all of our ruckmen are about 10kg too light and about 3 - 6cm too small. we have
Ryder who is 196cm / 92kg
Lobbe who is 200cm / 97kg
Frampton who is 200cm / 89kg
Howard who is 199cm / 92kg
Hoff who is 199cm / 94kg
Trengove who is 197cm / 94kg
and they are coming up against ruckmen like this:-
Crows - Jacobs who is 202cm / 102kg, Jenkins 199cm / 107kg & Lowden 206cm / 103kg
Lions - S. Martin who is 197cm / 105kg, Phillips 201cm / 100kg
Blues - Kreuzer who is 200cm / 103kg
Colling - Grundy who is 203cm /102kg, Witts 209cm / 111kg, Cox 211kg / 110kg
Essen - Bellchambers who is 202cm / 106kg, Leuenberger 203cm / 103kg
Freo - Sandilands who is 211cm / 119kg, Clarke 203cm / 97kg & Griffen 201kg / 101kg
Cats - Smith who is 206cm / 105kg, Clarke 200cm / 103kg
Suns - Currie 201cm / 99kg, Nicholls 203cm / 102kg
GWS - Mumford 197cm / 107kg, Lobb 206cm / 102kg & Simpson 210cm / 110kg
Hawks - McEvoy 200cm / 102kg, Ceglar 204cm / 98kg & Pittonet 202kg / 101kg
Melb - Gawn 208cm / 111kg, Spencer 203cm / 108kg
Roos - Goldstein 201cm / 103kg & Brown 200cm / 101kg
Tigers - Maric 200cm / 102kg & Hampson 201cm / 106kg
Saints - Longer 202cm / 103kg & Hickey 201cm / 94kg
Swans - Tippett 202cm / 108kg, Nankervis 199cm / 106kg & Sinclair 200cm / 99kg
Eagles - Nic Nat 201cm / 105kg, Lycett 203cm / 103kg & Giles 201cm / 101kg
Dogs - Campbell 200cm / 104kg, Roughead 200cm / 99kg & Minson 199cm / 106kg
now Ryder, Howard & Trengove all have the leap but they don't have the strength to go body on body with someone who is over 100kg of muscle. All 3 would need to put on at least 5kg of muscle
in 2014 Lobbe could go body on body but the last 2 years now he is finding it difficult with all these new ruckmen who are taller and heavier than him. he would need to put on 7 - 10kg of muscle and be like Mumford
Frampton needs to put on about 15kg of muscle so he can have the strength to go body on body with some of the heavier ruckmen.
If we sometimes use Hoff as a ruckman next year then some how he will need to put on at least 5kg
so in the draft if we go for a ruckman it will have to be someone over 200cm and around 100kg + some one like:-
Jordan Sweet (SA – RUC) 203cm - 105kg
Jeremy Goddard (WA – RUC) - 202cm 97kg
Peter Ladhams (SA – RUC) - 202cm 90kg
or the other options is to get a couple of young developing 20yr old, 205cm+/ 100kg Americans and give them 3 years or so with the magpies
Not sure Graham is going to be a first round lock.

Possibly. The group outside the top 3-5 players seems to be anyone could go anywhere depending on what team picks where. I haven't seen vision of graham playing yet but I love guys who produce big numbers in champs consistently. sounds like an all rounder player without a standout attribute, but I am also not hearing about weaknesses either? If a guy can rack up 30 possies repeatedly in the champs I think that will translate to afl. Wish we had a 2nd rounder.

Williem Drew from the second quarter onwards spent much of the game playing off a half-back flank which was an opportunity to see something different from one of this draft's most dominant stoppage players.
As he does, Drew won his share of 50/50 balls at ground level and tackled strongly. The key takeout though was Drew offered some nice run on a few occasions which for a 188cm stoppage specialist is another feature that will only enhance his draft prospects if he can show that more often.
On one occasion Drew provided some dash, disposed of the ball then provided some overlap run, running in support on the offensive drive from the back half.
There was another eye-catching sequence where Drew ran at speed with ball in hand for almost 40m, drew an opposition player, then with perfect timing, dished by hand to a supporting runner, in a play you could have easily confused Drew with a natural running half-back flanker.
They all look great on paper I guess but one of these would be useful.
Agree completely about our ruckman. It's why I can't view Ryder as a full ruck replacement. He is an outstanding ruck, but as the game wears on, especially with fewer rotations, it'a the big guys who will not get shorter.
Those really are damning numbers.
We really are out of step with every other team in the league.
P.s. I am surprised Lobbe is that light

I wouldn't worry about weight too much. The reason lobbe isn't fulfilling his potential Is not because he needs to gain 5 kgs. Out there he isn't conceding anything really in strength to most of those guys. His issue is he gets his hand to the ball a lot in taps but doesn't tap it to our advantage, and can't get to the right spot in a pack and mark the ball in those concrete slabs he calls hands. .
the weight would be a factor .. I suspect Lobbe is more worried trying to use his light body against heavier ruckmen that he is rushing the taps which doesn't go to our players like they once did .. to understand how the weight would be a factor one must think
"could I push aside some one who is 4cm taller and 10kg heavier if this person didn't want to be moved ?" and in most cases the answer would be no I couldn't
then ask yourself "could I push aside some one who is 4cm taller but close to the same weight ? " and the result would be a lot better
WA v Allies is on at 1pm CST on FS3 today if anyone is interested
