I'm on board the Venables train at the moment. At the moment he's a very talented forward, strong leading and marking and an excellent shot on goal.

But he projects to be a midfielder who can rest forward. Not getting a heap of the ball when he's in the guts yet, but when he does his strength and power is apparent. Is a bundle of potential.

Jake Comitogianni is an option for a late pick. Link up midfielder with good pace who runs all day and has neat disposal. Gets in the right positions constantly.

Yeah, the problem is that is a player who projects to be a good midfielder worth taking a punt on at pick 10 over say a mid like gallucci who is tried and tested in the midfield?

And that's where list managers make the big bucks. As Geoff Parker said about Fyfe... Saw him dominate and kick 8 goals and look like the best prospect in the land one day, but then get 2 touches the next game. In hindsight, he obviously should have gone number one.

There's definitely midfield options available in the first round that are safe picks and it might be that it being our first first rounder for a a few years, we'll play it safe. I wouldn't mind taking a high risk high reward type of player.

How did gallucci , McGrath , graham , Scharenberg look today?

Ideally I would love to add a mid with footskills like gallucci with pick 1 and trade into the 2nd round and have a chance at one of drew, graham or Simpkin but reckon they will be gone sadly.

Graham will be there with our 2nd imo, Drew and Simpkin should be gone though

Do we get any preferential treatment if we draft players from our academy?

As we don't have a second round pick (at the moment), I would hope that we only pick one non-academy player from the national draft this year.

Our other four or five picks would all be from our academy, kids who have been in our system for a year or two already that we know very well and are ready to slot into the maggies side.

Why would we use picks lower than 36 on anything but our own kids?
It would be the start of the next great era at PAFC.

who's everyones #1 draft target ? Don't see a lot of the U18s..

How highly does everyone rate Jonty Sharenburg ?
Haven't watched U18s either (No Maggies kids makes it hard for me).

But if we can find a ready inside mid with our first pick and a development KPD with our 3rd then that should be good.

Would also like a KPF/2nd ruck via trade too. Players would have to be sacrificed for that to happen.

Did not see all of the SANFL game on Saturday (vs South) but did catch a glimpse of Bass.
Rather liked his effort.
Any interest in redrafting?

How does Todd Marshall look?

A little inconsistent, but looks good. Good leap, marks the ball high, strong hands, neat kicking action.

Growing into first round calculations

He's 29 years old.

The potential of Powell-Pepper is insane. Has Judd-like pace and agility away from stoppages, hits contests and full pace and wins the ball without breaking stride. Just needs to find a bit more of it but his scope is better than anyone else in this draft imo.

I'm all aboard the Todd Marshall train. Strong marking in front. Good athleticism, good leap, strong hands. Played well. A lot of potential there.

Petrevski-Seton didn't have a good game. hasn't had a good year. Could slide a bit. There's a lot of Peter Burgoyne about him. Good in close at stoppages and can find the ball on the outside. Dual sided.

Shai Bolton has insane pace and can see a lot of teams liking his athleticism. Would be lightning down a wing. Kicking is a bit bang and hope though. Zac Fisher had a great game and looks a real player though is only 175cm. Zac Sproule had some moments as a lead up CHF.

A bit of hype growing around Tim English in the ruck. Very slender and his actual ruckwork was poor but is very athletic, has great follow up work and likes to throw himself in. Strnadica - pass.

A lot of the big name Allies had poor games. Barely saw Jack Bowes. Didnt see Brad Scheer after half time. Setterfield had moments but couldnt put anything consistent together. Hampton had one or two great moments but otherwise failed to take the game on. Parfitt the best of the big names.

Disagree pretty starkly on your thoughts on both Petrevski-Seton and English. Haven't seen anything to suggest that SPS should be sliding at all, absolute silk and still looks a class above in every game I have seen him in this year. Also thought English's ruckwork was pretty neat too.

Thats cool. When I say SPS might slide, at this point im talking from #1 to #4-5.

In the under 18's thread Chris25 says that Jordan Sweet has been dropped from the state side because Ladhams is the number 1 ruck and Sweet lacks the versatility to play elsewhere.

Looking forward to seeing the games on Foxtel tomorrow.

I still really like Scharenberg. There's nothing outstanding that he does, just consistently good. Also has a real presence on the field, stoic and composed. One of those guys you watch and go "He looks like an AFL footballer."

Dakota Nixon also grabbed my attention last week, interested to see how he goes.

Still wouldn't scare me off either for the right pick

Ladhams would be my first choice, but happy if we snare sweet.

Could wait and see with our third or fourth round picks but to be honest we could wait until rookie draft , gamble that sweet is still available there if not take the vic country man mountain ruck Sean darcy as a rookie. He's a ruck you don't have to bulk up so much as turn his bulk into lean muscle

There is lots of blokes I'm like
Hopefully he is there at our second pick

Just to remember our second pick this year is Charles Dixon
