Someone needs to explain to me who these kids in the draft are (Battle I keep hearing about but don't know shit about him). I know Marshall is meant to be an elite KPF prospect so if we get him then yes please but everyone else I'm useless on.

If you're going KPF, there's really only three main ones that seem to be a decent chance of making it, at this stage. I'm not counting English, because I think he's a ruckman who is more of a defender than a forward if you're talking about his versatility stakes.

Todd Marshall is the 198cm, athletic beast who has a lot of X factor, great hands and a decent kick. So far, he's been very, very stay at home forward though and doesn't impact games for four quarters at all. Didn't make the U/18 All Australian team. That's why I say he's not a sure thing, but he's the best AFL prospect with his skillset, size and athleticism.

Josh Battle is the 192cm, third tall type with a huge tank and a good, although sometimes wobbly kick. He can run all day, so often has tired his opponents out, is good on the lead and has some pace about him. He doesn't have much of a presence though, although that could change at AFL level.

Patrick Kerr is the 194cm, more classic forward. Lacks a bit of agility, but has alright pace on the lead and excellent hands on the lead. His kicking action looks great and more often than not produces, but then you'll get 4 behinds in a row from him. Seems to pop up in big moments and reads the play well.

Although, this should probably go in the Draft Targets thread and not the Trade Targets thread, so I'll move this over to there.

I'd love to get Kerr with a third rounder if he slid. That'd be my most preferred option. But I guess we'd be silly not to grab Todd Marshall if we had the chance.

Here's a highlights package for each:

Todd Marshall

Josh Battle

Patrick Kerr

Is the jury still out on Marshall's kicking ability? Highlights suggest it's not his greatest strength.

Moves the ball around a bit in his run up, should be easily sorted. Ball drop and action looks fine.

Cam McCarthy was similar pre-AFL days. Looked horrendous and never thought it would work in the AFL, but he came along an absolute mile before his personal issues.

I wonder if the club held similar sentiments before drafting Butcher ;).

hah, maybe. Marshall's looks more like a Tredrea type issue as opposed to a major core problem like Butchers.

The exciting thing with Marshall is over 12 months has gone from not having played football to being the best Key Foward in the draft.

Hopefully we get him and he continues to develop this way.

Think how he'll go with Tredders mentoring him then !

surely if we get more than one 1st rounder we will use one of the picks on English. He looks like he could beat Lobbe after one AFL preseason

Ben Ainsworth is probably top of my realistic want list now. Since moving into the midfield he's been putting up ridiculous numbers. In the last 3 weeks hes had:

1 - 33 disp, 4 marks, 4 goals, 4 tackles
2 - 26 disp, 6 marks, 3 goals, 6 tackles
3 - 33 disp, 10 marks, 3 goals, 4 tackles

Only McLuggage in this years draft can pull those sorts of numbers. If he's there, he'd be perfect. Quick, skillful, aggressive, x-factor, huge leap, booming kick.

I'm sure his x-factor and impact can transfer to AFL but I'm still a little unsure with his body type whether he'll be able to rack up consistent high disposal numbers at AFL. Not really a knock on him too much, I'd be pretty wrapped to get him.

I don't think he'd have the most immediate impact, but his body type is actually one thing going for him. What he lacks in height he makes up for as a total nugget of a man, very strong.

And his height isn't that much of an issue, it just looks bad because he's 1cm off 180cm and anything in the 170s appears bad.

Again, might as well post highlights from this year:

And 2015, when he impressed as an underager:

Ainsworth would be a cracking pick. Good skills, burst of pace and has some mongrel. Rotating Chad, Robbie and him through the forward and midfield would be pretty handy.

Would be tough if English and or Marshall are also available though.

Sympkin looks alright, good ball user. Wonder how far he will slide with his injury.

I notice Powell-Pepper seems to have dropped away on most draft boards despite reasonable WAFL form.

I'm a massive fan of SPP. People seem fixated on the fact he sometimes doesnt hit targets but he's one of the explosive players in the draft and he looks like a player that could develop into a dominant player. Someone will get a bargain there if he does slide a bit.

Macca how tall is he? Just thinking do we need our midfielders to be in the 190cm plus .e.g. Bontempelli (from bulldogs my spelling is no doubt out) Crips from Carlton etc
