Jamie Hampton probably going to be around as a third round pick. Has a bit of size about him he was used as a key position defender by the Territory during the under 18 championship that's the problem with being reasonably tall in the Territory he's not a key position defender but he's strong does good inside work can run and is a reasonable kick. We could do worse in the third round.

I really like him. I wouldn't be at all surprised if someone used a late first rounder on him.

I've been very keen on draftees in previous years but this year it is pretty light on with 'stand out' future champions. Brodie then ...

Looks alright! Could be a krakour replacement. Moves nicely

It's suggested that dodo will recommend to the Essendon board that the number one pick be traded for two lesser picks. I'm wondering if we could explore packaging Hammer and pick nine for pick one then on trade pick one for a high pick and a second round pick?

If we get pick 1, we wouldnt be trading it.

I would seriously consider looking at a trade that involved Hartlett and pick 9 for pick 1 if we got another pick around the 20's back. Not 19 as dons wouldn't part with that but if they could trade in a pick under 30 to hand to us.

I have no idea how dons would look at that trade.

A couple of you lads are all over the draft stuff, is it realistic that we can get Marshall with the potential pick 6 for the Hammer trade? If on draft night that goes balls up, what strategy would you employ? Would you get the 2 best mids and rely on later picks to pick up promising talls? From the footage, is Battle more a lead up 3rd tall type rather than a key forward? Apologies if that's to many questions at once.

I'm far from an expert , but it does seem that Brodie , mcluggage , Ainsworth are the top 3 with sps and Marshall closest to them. Think freo take sps as the talented local kid if they keep the pick , if gws ends up with that pick they might take Marshall though. But for me it's

Dons -Brodie,

Bris - mcluggage

Freo - sps

Gold Coast - Ainsworth

Carlton - McGrath

Richmond - Marshall

Gold coast could bite on Marshall? If gws end up with a top pick they could take Marshall.

I would almost never trade for the number 1 pick, for two reasons:
- it would cost an arm and a leg to get ahold of
- there is so much pressure to use it well that clubs end up taking the safe option, reducing the likelihood of a great return by attempting to guarantee an at least positive return.

The best player in a draft year has never been picked at number 1 (except maybe cousins). But you have to give up your best player to get ahold of that pick. Not worth it.

The one pick usually ends up in the worst environment. We haven't really seen genuine number picks with GWS and the Gold Coast coming in it makes in hard to draw a line but would back us in with one if we landed it.

It will be interesting to see where Ainsworth goes. A 179cm small forward going with pick #1 is a big call by whoever pulls that trigger. I've only seen a few minutes of highlights but he seems to be sucking in the big ones whenever he completes a mark on the lead so you think recruiters will be watching his beep test closely. He's no guarantee to slot into a midfield role.

Gold Coast or GWS if they have multiple first round picks would be most likely to take the chance.

On the number one pick thing, and I'm certainly not a draft watcher, but I've repeatedly heard on SEN people say that the clubs are having trouble separating the top seven (I think) picks this year. It seems that any club that trades into a top one or two (rather than six or seven) pick this year is on its own rating this group.

He's spent the last month in the midfield for some insane results however.

Battle is a third tall. Crazy work rate though.

Think of a marking version of the Crows Tom Lynch.

On the road to the draft pod this week, twomey asked 7 different recruiters there #1 pick anonymously, and he got McLuggage, Brodie, Mcgrath, English and Ainsworth as answers. This is the widest group just about ever

The other reason trading for the number 1 pick is so risky is that if there is an absolute standout pick, it becomes even more valuable to the club that already has it. You would have to give up even more to get it.

If Brisbane get a first round priority pick, either start of first round or immediately following their second overall, does anyone see them parting with one of them?

Ainsworth is my number 1 player in this year's draft.

2014 - Aaron Francis
2013 - Luke Dunstan
2012 - Jake Stringer
2011 - Chad Wingard
2010 - Jack Darling

Hes had a shit one today unfortch

he is certainly a nice size, and has played under 10 games so there may be something to work with given his basketball background.

There was an instance not long after where he tried to bounce the ball in traffic, on the boundary, like it was a basketball.

Hes got some good skills for someone thats played footy for only 18 months. As a rookie list he may be worth a punt.
