Willem Drew again best for Nth Ballarat against Falcons on the weekend. 24d 9t 1g. Now also #10 on Knightmares power rankings. He's our boy at 9!

Really like the look of him from the highlights... Unless there is a major slider, i would be pretty happy to take him at 9. I asked KM about him, and he was pretty bullish about him as a 5+ pick.

Drew

Seriously though he's exactly what we need apart from a kpf. Hes described as a big game player and stands up when it counts lost when weve seen numerous times this year no one has. Ive conceeded marshall; if he doesnt go to freo he'll definently go to carlton regardless if we pick up 6 or not the other will get sps put it in the book.

Would it be worth admitting we may have been a bit hasty delisting him and taking Mason Shaw as a rookie? Took 121 marks in the WAFL and kicked 50 goals and will be 23 in January. After a first season(2013) where he played mainly in South's reserves he went to the Magpies but only played 1 game in the first half of the season due to injury. The rest was more down than up with the odd good performance. Then in 2015 he was injured for 3 games at the start of the season and 8 in the last half.

Drew's highlights show a good handballer in traffic - great vision and weighting of the handpass.
Seems a decent height for a midfield. He's slim but looks he could fill out reasonably.
There's something a little ungainly about his kicking style. It's not quite as obvious as Ollie's, but it's not an elegant kicking style and in general field play his kicks don't seem to be hard and penetrating.

Did Mason really kick 50 goals and take 121 marks in the WAFL?
Was this in seniors?
If so, then wow! We were hasty.

50-21 with 277 disposals, 121 marks and three 5 goal bags for South Fremantle league team. He was drafted from the colts in 2012. Also 10 frees for and 22 against so should fit right in at Port. :p

You reckon Carlton would go for Marshall? Last year they picked up McKay, Curnow & Silvagni. Going tall again might be a bit top heavy.

Drew plays a lot like Broadbent for me. Good pace, big kick, can play as an inside mid, or running outside player. I feel there might be better options there at 9 but wouldn't be unhappy picking him.

If we can bring in another first round draft pick, I'd be more than comfortable using one on Willem Drew, as long as we use the other to pick up a KPF.

Edit: wouldn't mind us also picking up a mid 2nd round pick and trying to get Jonty Scharenberg too.

A bit like broadbent? You mean mostly anonymous and "we don't really know what his role is" broadbent?

Pass :p

Could always ask one of those Leigh Montagnas you saw earlier where they were created.

Dude. They even all had the same beady dark eyes.

Curnow and silvagni bit undersized and arent exactly key. Mckay only true tall and their forward stocks arent exactly appealing with casboult and jones at the moment especially when your leading goal kicker is matthew wright. Silvagni has shown to be able to play small forward this year. It was a pretty glaring need this year; Remember theyre still building for the future and arent there yet. Really depends what they value more a mid or tall forward i would think a forward

Jones...it's a ****ing travesty that this dickhead has more games to his name than Butcher, I mean holy shit.

Levi Casboult is literally fat slow John Butcher and he's played more than double Butcher's game tally.

Hmmm dunno about the broady comparisons. KM at least rates him hardest inside mid in this year's draft and ready to go in 2017. Seems like what we need to me.

If Mathew Lloyd is prepared to tweet that Josh Battle is one of the most promising forwards in this years draft then that's a huge endorsement right there IMO. Lloydy knows a thing or two about forwards. I mean he only kicked 926 goals in his career (and stands at 192cm, same height as Battle)

I hear ppl comparing Battle to a young Darling or Gunstan... Tell you what, we could use a freakin Darling or Gunstan in our side right now!

Our biggest immediate need is in the forward lines. If we get pick 6 for Hartlett then for me;

Pick 6: Midfielder
Pick 9: Josh Battle

I've been keen on battle for a while, but if we want him we should be doing everything we can to trade lobbe and get into the second round. The thing is I think battle will not be a star, but I think he could be a very good partner to Dixon.
