For me our first pick should be Marshall or Battle, then a ruckman if a quality one is still available e.g. English or best available mid. English may slide as so many rucks often do e.g. Grundy.
I think our priorities are KPF, Ruckman then mid.

ken has said that he wants to recruit a 1st round draftee who is ready to play. english, battle and marshall will all take time

I reckon we're looking for a kid that will be able to come in straight away and have maximum impact. Think Selwood, Wines - that type. The type of player that makes every other player better simply because it's more quality added to the list. I also think we'll be targeting a slashie - a guy that can push into the mid (Hinkley seems to like those types because they give the side the opportunity for different looks in the middle).

Ainsworth or Venables are players I'd be looking at. Both are forwards that can drop into the midfield, but Ainsworth finds more of the ball when he's in there. Of course, if some silky class like Sam Petrevski-Seaton happens to land in our laps, you don't throw the chance to add that sort of skill.

We need to capitalize on the recruitment of Ryder and Dixon - both who are mid to late 20s - and the talent of Robbie Gray. Signing up a key forward that won't be any good until after Ryder and Dixon are gone is pointless - that's why key forwards are generally go early in the draft because they are the hardest to get and take the longest time to develop. But they also go early because the sides that pick them know that they won't be making finals for the next few years and midfielders can be found all the way through the first round every year.

We can either lose the massive amount of money we've already placed in the pot, guaranteed...or we can go all in, say the hand we've got is good enough and hope that we get decent community cards (trades) over the next few years. Right now it's **** or walk...and I say we ****.
McGrath or Ainsworth would be that player . Getable if we get pick 6

Yeah imon the #venablesbandwagon. He will realistically be there at our pick 8-9

Venables looks a bloody built young lad. Lack of output scares me greatly though for a top ten pick.

I think the players we really really need are mcluggage and petroski-seton. Their footskills are exactly what we need. Both will be gone though.

Ive seen nothing of him but Jy Simpkin sounds like the next best thing , but also too risky for a top ten pick.

Is it worth taking a round 3-4 project tall ruck/forward mix who can do a bit of backline work?

Max Lynch would be one that fits the bill there. He's a GWS Academy kid but its possible they may overlook him.

Taking Battle with pick 9 just because we need a KPF is not great list management and drafting strategy.

Next year has a plethora of talls and we'll be most likely able to get a better talent than Battle with a pick in the teens.

Lots of Essendon fans want battle with our pick 19, but he probably wont be there at our pick, If I had pick 9 and think he could very well be the next Darling I would take him in a heartbeat.

Pick 9 for Darling and pick 9 for Battle are very different things.

I like Battle and would love him at Port but I just don't see a first round talent there.

Hindsight is a beautiful thing, Darling was selected at pick 26, wasn't seen as a 1st round talent.
Also Battle has had 35 shots on goal in 7 games at TAC cup level, as I said earlier Dodoro on the weekend was at the game watching Battle play in the final where he kicked 6.3 and said he will be gone before Essendons pick 19, so recruiters are saying he is a 1st round talent.

Only 4 million days to draft day. I want lots of picks... carn.

I've said this before without justification and will say it again. Venables will be the best player in the draft. .. By a space.

It's the vibe.

Not sure i agree (not that it matters) but I think we must go 1) ready to play best mid, 2) next best mid or forward then pick up a ruck later or trade for one.

For the draft watchers if English was there at 8 would he be to good to pass up or would we be better taking a mid and then picking up Ladams or Sweet in the 2nd,3rd or even rookie round?

The only way we take English at 9 (our first pick) is if our club has decided our premiership window it totally shut and that we need a rebuild.

I strongly suspect we will grab a genuine midfielder who we believe can come straight in and have an impact.

Darling was a first round talent and most pundits had him going 10-20.

He had alleged attitude issues

No nothing wrong with his attitude, he happened to get in a fight just before the draft, some say WEst Coast made it bigger then it actually was in hope he slides.
Battle right now is seen pretty much exactly the same in recruiters eyes, Dodoro said on the weekend Battle will go before our 2nd round pick 19.

We've got a lot of time for Dodoro at Port:rolleyes:

No way do I want a forward we can put in the midfield. I want a genuine mid. A Pity Mc1 and Mc2 will be gone. I don't care who is the best available, just use the first 4 picks on midfielders. then balance out list with the rest. Galluci and Drew with our first two picks would make me happy and not necessarily in that order.
