Highlights of Jonty Scharenberg from the Maccas Cup grand final. Quick thinker, evasive, and handballs well in tight. Good at freeing his arms in a tackle to get the handball away.

May have just been a bad day, but his kicking looks pretty bad.

That's definitely a fault, but given his other attributes I'd be happy to pick him up in the 2nd round.

Edit: in terms of realistic inside mid options though, my preference is Will Drew.

If we can get a second. Where is parfitt likely to go? If he is a forecast 2nd rounder wouldn't a player of his ilk be better for us?

Brandon could go anywhere between 12 and 25. Port have been all over him for a couple of years now if they think he is a good fit he won't go past our second pick.

The 2nd pick that we don't have. Maybe we give away next years 2nd which is rumoured to be a super draft.

We will have a second pick by the time trades are done. The Allstars game before the grand final will sort out a lot of the players in this draft as far as where we think they will go. It will also give us a good look at next year's most likely with the 17 year old players going around as well.

Scharenberg looks like a ball magnet who knows how to find the footy and use it by hand. :thumbsu:
If that clip is anything to go by his kicking is a def weakness though.

Looks to have no feel to his kicks at all , even though some of them came off well , watching how he kicked when he had the same time and space he looks like a kick in general direction and hope kinda guy, and sometimes that will work and sometimes it won't. I'm not convinced he ever improves that kicking, but players can learn to play within their limits. Those really bad kicks that people probably noticed don't actually bother me, I think they were just rushed and that is something that can easily be improved. But it's the kicks he did collect well and some missed and some hit their targets that make me question his skill by foot.

The trick is he will have to be effective at his strengths and play with in his weaknesses to be a first 22 player.

I would probably almost disregard his kicking and accept him as a player as he is if he looks to be able to carry over dominance inside to the afl.

Probably not the player port need unless he is best available at our pick.

I have huge question marks over parffit

What is he really good at? Is meant to be a midfielder , not a forward but he will likely get pigeonholed as a forward mid because of his height.

People say size doesn't matter but it does unless you are elite in some categories. I'm not sure what he is good to elite at? Looks like he is pretty decent at a lot of things. These small players who have zip around the contest and can break away don't often translate from juniors to afl. Neade was a pretty good player around contests in juniors. Im just concerned parffit has a low ceiling of OK player who influences some moments of games. Kicking just average. I haven't seen much so others will have different opinions and they might be right.

I think he could go as low as 40 or 50 to be honest.

I think Parfitt is a great ball winner who gets in good positions at stoppages to retrieve or receive the ball, has good strength so can break through tackles, but it all falls apart in execution. I'll be watching the GF this week to see how he went. Statistically he's had a really strong second half to the year but the thing that really disappointed me about his championships was his inability to hit targets at all regularly. Had a good Div 2 champs but it all fell away against the big boys. That is something that could likely see him fall from a late first rounder to a late 2nd/3rd rounder.

So for me, he's halfway there. If he can tidy up his kicking and hit targets then he could well become a Rory Sloane type bargain pick for someone if he does fall down the draft. Otherwise, he could easily end up in the Mitch Banner boat.

Have you gotten around to seeing anything of Alex villis macca?

I haven't yet. So don't know how to rate him. We need some outside wingers with decent kicks at port but this draft seems shallow for them. Did see one of his recent games he only had around a dozen touches , which isn't good at all. I'm a fan of players who find a bit of the ball and have production runs on the board, and if a dozen touches is an often occurance I'm not sure he would be a good target as much as I want him to be

His 12 touches was by far the lowest he's had at reserves level all year, the first time he's dropped below 20 actually. He's averaged 22 touches a game at reserves level and played a couple of good games at league level as well. I've got him as my #1 ranked SA player at 25 on my list at the moment. I really like him. He reminds me a lot of Luke Partington or someone like Harrison Wigg as well. Can play across half back and set up the play, or he can play as a hard running midfielder delivering inside 50. Good endurance, looks like he can run all day but doesn't have much top end speed. That might hold him back. But yeah, he can certainly find the footy depending on the role he has.

The bolded can be said of Slimming too, Villis is probably a better kick though?

So Parfitt is a short flanker who can't kick? Sounds like exactly what we need :drunk:

Well I think the general idea is he is a mid , I just think because of his size he will be typecast Into a half forward / mid type role unless he is exceptional in the midfield early on. I'm less keen then others.
