For me i weigh up certain posters opinion against what I know (and many people watch far more vision than I do) against stats. Stats can lie, but if you can take them in context I trust them a great deal. From game 1 in the champs in ollies draft year I was asking who this guy is that is racking up huge huge numbers against quality opponents. Sometimes they will lie, a kid called Hurley from Sturt taught me that a while back , but often it's a very good indicator.

If scrimshaw is finding a lot of the ball through the wing in juniors that makes me feel a fair bit more confident that he isn't Oshea. I think Oshea was always a defender hbf in juniors who never averaged close to 20 possies a game.

Knights has pointed out he isn't a contested ball winner , and that would be a fair knock. It doesn't mean he can't be a winger that we need , just not an on baller.

I would still be more sold on guys like McGrath, mcluggage , Brodie , Taranto and probably sps and Ainsworth though. But that is 6 players when we are picking 9th. One thing is for sure we defintely need kicking skills as a target.

The guys on the D&T board do a wonderful job but it all needs to be taken in context. A lot of those guys are judging off youtube vision just like anyone else. These guys aren't travelling to Woodville Oval to see Jackson Lee and Tyson Stengle play in WWT reserves, nor are they going across to Claremont to see SPS play in the WA colts so it all needs to be taken in context.

Agree with the Quigley call. Especially when looking back in hindsight, he has nailed his criticisms of players that we've drafted.

Its also important to remember that players aren't drafted off what they've done, they are drafted off what they could become, which is why recruiters get paid the big bucks.

Venables is a gun, so tenacious and he would be a great pick around that #10 mark. Im not a big fan of English, SPS or Marshall all hype but won't offer a lot else in terms of on field production. Taranto and Scrimshaw are the only others around the mark I'd like to see Port taking draft night. I can just sense Marshall is Alberton bound
who is SPS?

I'm a bit worried he smells like Mitch Thorp
Nothing like Mitch Thorpe, Thorpe was a midfielder caught in a KPP body, if he came on the scene now they would try and mould him into Bontempeli. Marshall is a genuine contested marking forward. At this stage a lot Like John Butcher (without the poor kick), he just doesn't get to enough contests often enough. If you think you can fix this he is top 10 material, if you don't think you can fix this he is only worth a rookie list.

PS I will go off my rocker if we don't draft a mid

What are your thoughts on Venables and Taranto. ?

Speaking of mids v flankers... I saw an interesting name in the all stars game. Isaac Cumming a half back flanker from broken hill. Is he related / brother of that other great port adelaide player harrison cumming? (Also from broken hill and hbf)

Venables - underaged bully, more tapscott than wines.

Taranto - just lets me sit back and stroke it

I don't know what'd make me lose my shit more, seeing SPS's name still available at our pick...

...or if we then went with someone else. My absolute number one want.

This. We are screaming for a bloke with his skills and class.

I think I said almost the exact same thing about Quigley a few years back on one of our drafting threads, its his ability to see players deficiencies that really sets him apart. He just nailed it.

What's the reason?

Skills? or don't see the potential

Yep, absolutely. Rate him super highly but GWS will definitely accept the bid. He's too good to let go.

I would be thrilled if we somehow ended up with the entire likely GWS draft heist. Setterfield and Perryman as early picks and Mutch, Sproule and Lynch in the second and third rounds.

2 gun mids with great disposal, an accumulator, an athletic key position player and an aggressive ruckmen. It is the draft Port Adelaide needs to have.
