7 news reporting Essendon might go for Bowes or Setterfield with pick 1. That might throw a cat amongst some pigeons.

If you wanted to give GC or gws a push to ask for their first pick because you want to capilitise on it leaking to the right people you might take Bowes or settle field there would be your first move.

I expect this is exactly what Essendon are doing. I think they know they need a lot of talent into that side and possibly figure that Brodie could slide a cpl of picks to later or Taranto would be a good consolation prize

If Jack Graham is still available at our later picks surely we'd pick him - virtually all the Larke Medal winners have been guns and he'd be great help to Ollie on the inside.

That would be nice. I would give that no cred at all though

You would know better than most that it's smoke and mirrors time now. Still all adds to the fun.

Pick 9
Best inside mid
Hopefully get a second rounder for a KPF prospect
Then ruckman with 45
Best available from there
Which underheight flankers are we going to trade out to justify adding more on the list?

I am pretty sure it is just more Essendon posturing. What a great way to distract from drug cheatiness.

If Essendon bid on an academy player at pick 1, then why the **** would GC/GWS/Brisbane trade for pick 1? They're still academy players, and those academy clubs can still get them for 20% less by bidding. Trading for #1 would be wasteful.

Essendon bid on Bowes with pick 1 then Gold Coast use their first pick on Bowes.

Gold Coast trade for pick 1, then they get Mcluggage/Mcgrath/Brodie as well as Bowes.

Yeah, so basically Essendon threatening to bid on an academy player makes no difference to the outcome

It makes a big difference to the outcome.

Would you prefer Bowes. Or Mcluggage + Bowes?

Essendon are doing it for their own interests because for them, getting 4 & 8 from Gold Coast is probably better in the long term than just pick 1.

Macca...you're actually asking this.

Would you prefer:
McCluggage + Bowes
OR
(Whatever traded value of McCluggage is) + Bowes

From a Gold Coast perspective it doesn't change, which is why Essendon threatening to take an academy player is a bit meaningless. Even if they do, it doesn't compel Gold Coast to deal with Essendon, they can get what they need from others.

You talking about kpf prospect? In a dream world you'd be going Kerr who stands at 194
Also a bid on sproule would be good who has some height on him

No, I mean if we're going to go `best available' at any point and inevitably end up drafting flankers sub-181cm, then for list balance we will need to have gotten rid of some.

We already have a side easily exposed for flanker height/size because of our numbers of small guys in the 22, and top 4 sides are built big.

Well that'll only be if we use anymore than three picks in the national draft to begin (it'll almost be like one of the flankers we've delisted already would be who we're replacing)

In the rookie I'm a fan of either break in case of emergencies and raw prospects (probably shouldve put that in the first post )

Jonts, odds are we have already replaced Colquhoun with Snelling on the main list.

Well it actually starts tomorrow the trade period .
Who are our realistic trade baits . Lobbe , AhChee , sounds like Broadbent doesn't want to go . Maybe Amon would be interested in moving .
I guess we need to offer a big fish if we expect a decent return .
Lobbe or AhChee would probably get us a pick in the 30-45 range which we do need but personally I'd keep AhChee unless we could get a pick under 35 for him or a part of a swap for a decent young mid like Barret .
I don't think we should do anything too much unless it's for a starting 22 mid , possibly Vardy or a first or second round pick .
We aren't that far away when the list is fit so we don't to to rob Peter to pay Paul really we just need to top up in the midfield and another ruck/ forward .

Anyway it'll be very interesting to see what happens I just hope we don't panic buy I guess is what I'm trying to say .

Tend to agree and I think we should be looking at this as step 1 in 3 year process....a bit at a time. We should follow the lead of others in that draft and develop and trade for top up...and we should use the rookie selections more as development particularly Talls. I haven't stated anything that is new but I think we lost our way a bit and as a rule do not enter into long term contracts UNLESS there is significant get out clauses for the club.
