Yep. Gws will match any bid for him , and it will likely come before our pick or at it. Genuine midfielder. Ridiculous that gws probably have more elite mids under the age of 21 than we have on our entire list

GWS are going to try a new concept in AFL football next year. 22 x 1st round midfielders with no forwards, backs or rucks.

There's no real reason to talk him up considering he's GWS academy and they'll match any bid on him!
The reason I'm interested in his true draft position is that Essendon have threatened to bid on him at No 1. Are they likely to come through with that threat or is it purely spurious posturing?

I really don't think they would, just want to trade pick 1 for two top 10 picks I think.

I think Bowes for Gold Coast would be rated higher than Setterfield and more of a chance of Essendon bidding.

But to risk McCluggage/McGrath, who currently seem to be the two runaway favourites for no. 1, I think is too for them to actually go through with it.

I'm still worried about our draft position. The stand outs (McCluggage, McGrath, SPS, Ainsworth, Brodie, Taranto and Bowes) will go before our pick and, probably, Scrimshaw. Then you could throw a blanket over the next 20. We need 2 bolters to be able to get our hands on one of the outstanding midfielders and I can't see that happening.

We need a club to grab English or marshall and we'll mop up what's left
Or more likely bid on what's left just to be told you can't have it because academies

Mmmm seems like the type of person who would be home sick

His hometown of Halls Creek is probably closer to Adelaide than Perth.

Calm down mate. You could have said the same sort of thing about any draft. There's always nice names on paper, but the reality is that we are going to have the opportunity to pick an outstanding footballer with any pick in the draft let alone pick 9.

He's one I'm not up to speed on. Suit us ?? Play through the middle ??

Inside mid, great skills, pure football brain. He could still end up being the player of the draft but I reckon he's also the onee of the top 10 that has the most risk of failing as well.

I'd love it if we got him.

Bit of Daniel Kerr about him ??

I can't see SPS failing on his defensive ability alone. He seriously looks like Cyril Rioli with his ferocious tackling and ability to run his opponent down. He might take a bit to be able to adjust to the pace of AFL and have some size and strength to be able to break tackles the way he does in the juniors, but defensively he will be more of a strength than a liability from the get go, I'd say.

This vid is from last year as an underager, but is his best highlights package I'd say - he still did some nice things this year, but injury derailed his season a touch.

Not sure what you base that on. Do you know him? We have a good history of keeping West Australians here.

Reminds me of these blokes:

So yes.

He is f^(%$$ing incredible. He throws his body around with no fear and then when he gets the ball... time stops and space opens. He is a level above. He reminds me of those blokes too.

Whats risk of him failing based on?

Gut feel. Nothing more. I've got some queries about him but as I said, he's also possibly got the highest scope of all the top 10.

He's very similar to 2004 era Peter Burgoyne. Not much like Shaun at all.

There's a bunch of players I'd rather we had a crack at at pick 9 than SPS
