If we ended up with Taranto or SPS with our first pick, Florent or Powell-Pepper with our second and Ryan or Parfitt with our third - that could transform our side in one go. Speed, skill, goal kicking ability and x-factor.

All of a sudden the pick swap looks okay....

If somehow we got Barrett late in the trade period then our midfield has been rejuvenated in one go.

Would like to get Jordon Sweet with a late pick too.

I think Reynolds would be a handy rookie to fill a need short term as marking forward with his work rate until we can draft or trade for a KPF next year. Otherwise Darcy Cameron could work as a short term option as well as a ruck / forward.

Geez man the majority of this draft class was born in 1998... I feel old!

Music had already started to suck when they were born.

Everyone asking for the best avaliable mid at 9 but who is realistically avaliable? Sps i firmly believe will be gone berry is a realistic chance and the rest of the top 20 are made up of flankers/talls like logue and marshall.

I like liam ryan for 30
19 id settle for venables battle kerr in that order
Berry or Taranto are likely the best mids available at 9. Louge's testing and his performances in the colts suggest he could be a 194 cm mid and Schrimshaw at 193cm could also be a mid according to Sandringhams talent manager. But to answer your question- Berry or Taranto.

Have you seen much of ronke or romensky Macca ?

I would love us to take a flyer on a mid who might have some potential. Every year one or two clubs finds a late draft pick who turns out to be a star , I would love it to be ports turn.

You like anyone for a unseen Robbie Gray style unearthing?

I just find it very curious that SA damn nearly won the U18s with the players that won the U16s two years earlier and yet its hard to find one of our players in anybody's top 30. This just reeks of eastern state bias.

If there is one player who dragged this bunch of list cloggers to within a bee's dick of the title it's Graham. Imagine what he could've done if fully fit.

Look, he just matches my criteria of someone unfairly underrated by other scouts who we felt we could get if we got one of those picks.

It's funny I was wondering about this too - is it some ruse to think our players are shit and the likes of North Melbourne and St Kilda come along and snap the best of them up. Not having seen these guys and just read about what they bring to the table and where they might land there seems to me a few things we might be thinking
Number 9 - is best player available
Number 19 -Powell-Pepper everything I hear about this guy screams this is who we want
Number 30 - I think we might be after Jack Graham if you look at Larke Medal winners 90% are champions

so with that we get 2 inside midfielders and hopefully another with excellent skills at 9

Does that explain why in the 2016 U18s if Vic Metro hadn't come from 35 down at 3/4 time against us or if they hadn't come from 20 something down against Country at 3/4 time (winning both by less than a kick), SA would be champions with no one rated in the top 25-30?

We were champs in 2014 and 1 player picked in the first 35. Outside of Daniel, there hasn't really been anyone that's really put there name forward and said 'hey, I should have been picked earlier'.

We were champs in 2013 and the majority of those drafted from SA that year have disappointed.

In the end I don't think the results at the champs = better or more draftable talent. In the case of Graham there's a lot to like about his game but there's also legitimate queries as to his scope to play AFL which is why he drops down the list.

Lately south Aus has produced a strong depth of average talent but very very very few elite players like other states.

To be honest I'm not sure a south Australian origin team would best nsw in 3 years time.

Actually we would get belted by 100 points if they counted all these Riverland nsw gws academies kids as nsw origin.

Havent seen anything of Ronke outside of a couple of highlights but have seen a bit of Romensky. I quite like him and wouldn't mind having a look at him with a late pick or rookie pick if he falls through. I've got him higher than most seem to. Knows how to find the football, can play inside and out, good intensity. Rushes his disposal at times but is a good size and can play.

Harry Morrison is another that I seem to rate higher than most. Tye Bedford I like on a wing. Josh Begley is one to keep an eye on as well.

I like Kandinsky. He paints like Pittard plays. :p

What a fantastic piece of art :) You don't know what he is thinking when he was painting, but I'll be damned if it doesn't work out anyway.

Looks like an AFL heat map on acid.

I just caught the tail end of Trade Radio's draft expert (Cal Schmook?) predicting the top 5. He said-

1. ES McCluggage
2. GWS McGrath
3. BL [Bowes] Ainsworth
4. GC Bowes
5. CA [Setterfield] Brodie

Earlier he said GC who then have #6 and #8 are into Schrimshaw and English and Fremantle into English too. Did anyone else hear all of this and did I hear it right?

This could leave us with a choice of Berry, Taranto and SPS!

SPS dropping to 9 would be like Wingard dropping to 6- a dream come true.

I really don't think we want/need SPS. Taranto for mine. Think Berry could be an ok chance to slide to 19 though. Still holding onto some crazy hope that Brodie slides to 9.

Sorry to move away from the top-end discussion, but I found Steven Slimming's state combine results pretty interesting. 12.1 or 12.2 in the beep test when (from what I've heard) he'd usually be pushing 15 or higher. His endurance is absolutely one of his strengths, so I would be interested to know what happened there.

20m sprint (3.00 sec), agility (8.51 sec) and repeat sprint (25.52 sec) all good - just outside top 10 at the national combine.

Standing vertical and running vertical (right) pleasant surprises, 68cm and 83cm respectively - would both have been top 10 at the national combine.

AFL Academy player who seemed most likely a second-round prospect at the start of the year but appears to have fallen off the radar somewhat (at least on the Phantom Drafts board). Good form throughout the year playing wing/HBF for Sturt's reserves, eventually made his way into the league team for four games towards the end of the year and was named in the bests once. Solid U18 champs too.

Pretty neat user of the ball on both sides of his body but would expect further improvement here.

Not exactly a position of need but if he's still around late, I'd be keen for us to take him.

If Jonas, O'Shea and Stewart all stay then we probs don't need a KPD. But I'd rather trade/delist O'Shea and use our 3rd pick on a kid to develop.

If they all stay? Ugh. Don't make me think like that.

Those three combined should've only been given two contract years max. We've already gone above that on Jonas alone.

Strikes me as a poor man's Ollie Wines. Even a poor man's Ollie Wines is something that we could do with at the moment.

I really don't think we want/need SPS.

A silky skilled midfielder who can find the ball and with a strong defensive side? KPF's aside, I can't think of a player type we need more.

So, if the hawks - GC Jaeger-Omeara trade falls through, and he goes into the national draft rather than the PSD, which is what the conversation on the Draft and Training bard are discussing, we could take him at 9 before the hawks do at pick 10. Thoughts?

I imagine Essendon would take him at 1 first.
