Sorry to move away from the top-end discussion, but I found Steven Slimming's state combine results pretty interesting. 12.1 or 12.2 in the beep test when (from what I've heard) he'd usually be pushing 15 or higher. His endurance is absolutely one of his strengths, so I would be interested to know what happened there.

20m sprint (3.00 sec), agility (8.51 sec) and repeat sprint (25.52 sec) all good - just outside top 10 at the national combine.

Standing vertical and running vertical (right) pleasant surprises, 68cm and 83cm respectively - would both have been top 10 at the national combine.

AFL Academy player who seemed most likely a second-round prospect at the start of the year but appears to have fallen off the radar somewhat (at least on the Phantom Drafts board). Good form throughout the year playing wing/HBF for Sturt's reserves, eventually made his way into the league team for four games towards the end of the year and was named in the bests once. Solid U18 champs too.

Pretty neat user of the ball on both sides of his body but would expect further improvement here.

Not exactly a position of need but if he's still around late, I'd be keen for us to take him.

I think the beep test is hard for the state combine guys as they do all the testing in one day. I am certain doing a repeat sprint and verticle jump is going to take something out of their beep test scores.

That said anything beginning with a 12 is terrible for an outside midfielder.

I'm not sure Slimming does enough to be draft worthy from what I've seen. He just has no really strong features to his game. More of a rookie prospect for mine.

I really like him. I think his kicking under pressure needs to improve but he has AFL traits and is someone that would suit how we want to play

And yet according to Macca19 on the draft podcast, nobody's ever heard of him.

Based on his athleticism, his stats, his relatively anonymity and our needs, he'd be a fantastic pickup for us at 49 or beyond.

Portia still doesn't think he exists

He appears to be a mobile forward/ruck, somewhat like Howard

That would have to be the worst set of highlights I've seen. Was there a single clean disposal?

Just starting to read a bit on draft prospects. Almost everyone here seems keen on Taranto but his weaknesses in Knightmare's profile sound particularly poor to me:

Weaknesses:
- Two-way running effort
- Work rate
- Attack on the ball
- Unclear whether he has the game to step into full-time midfield role

Anyone actually seen him play much and can comment?

Two way running is bullshit. He runs back as much as anyone
Work rate, well you don't consistently get 25+ possessions if you don't work
Attack on the ball, yeah he is not bash and crash but he is not timid
Looks clear to me that he does

Looking at Taranto's TAC cup stats for 2016. He played 10 games, kicked a goal in 8 games, multiple goals in 3 games. His tackle numbers are insane, averages 6.5 per game, had 10 or over in 2 games. Overall his stats paint a picture of a hard working inside/outside mid who can kick a goal when resting forward. Absolutely my first choice for who could possibly be available at pick 9.

Also averaged 27 touches a game, with I think 12 of them being contested. So saying unsure if he can do a full-time midfield role is a strange weakness to put for him.

Who would you experts compare Taranto to ??

The first person that immediately comes to mind for me is Blake Caracella, but there's a lot of 2014 era Hamish Hartlett in the way he moves, collects & delivers the ball.
