Maybe a dark horse. They mention work ethic and good technically. Would take a bid maybe?

Zachary Sproule from the GWS Academy continues his push towards selection, continuing his impressive play as key forward on this Allies team. He finished with 13 disposals, five marks, one score assist, one goal and three behinds. Sproule is an impressive endurance runner, managing a 10:18 3km time trial during the preseason, which at 197cm makes Sproule a difficult opponent for opposition defenders to contain.

Sproule is the one for me, I've become a bit fixated on him, think he'd be perfect at pick 30. He can play forward or back but his kicking technique screams forward. I'm with a previous poster, I think we go 3 mids and 1 tall. We'd ideally be looking for a big bodied mid with fitness base that can play straight up, Berry is the obvious one at 14. He reminds of Cunnington , workhorse that is a solid footballer, unlikely to be elite though. I want one of Witherden or Sympkin at 17 based on potential. At 31 take the best remaining mid.

If they're available, and they may well be, Scharenberg and Graham at 30/31 for me. Both could play next year, both SA lads (bonus). I wouldn't be surprised or disappointed if we took them earlier.

Scharenberg despite his poor points should still be a good player

I've resigned myself to the fact none of the gws academy kids will be going anywhere else. Theyve set their picks up so they can literally get all of them

Given that we're stuck with Lobbe for at least another season, I don't think another ruckman is a priority. I'd only bother if there's a guy who slides to the rookie draft due to some question marks but with a ton of potential upside, i.e. Gach Nyuon last year.

Ended 2016 with 39 Senior list plus 4 rookies.

Delisted
- already 4 (main list) + Mitchell (rookie).
Then 2 extra (say Stewart and O'Shea?)

Leaves us with 33 senior plus 4 rookies.

In:

DFA: 1 (say Barrett or Richards?)

Draftees: (4)
14 - Simpkin/Berry (mids)
17 - Venables/Gallucio/Florent (mids)
30 - Kerr/Sproule (KPF)
31 - Ryan/Bolton/Clarke (mids).

Rookie Upgrades: (2)
Krakouer and Snelling.

Rookie draft: already have Hewitt and Huston.
Add two more. Say either Draper/Cameron (Ruck) plus either Lebois/Bedford (small fwd).

Cat 'B' rookie: (1)
Ariel Lual (KPP).

Leaves us with 40 senior plus 4 rookies plus 1 Cat 'B' rookie.

Scharenberg to me looks like a sure fire 150 game player. Whether he'll progress to being a top 3 mid on the list or stay around the 5th, 6th best mid is the question. A very safe choice, especially if he's there at 30.

I think Sproule could be the best key forward in this draft, but GWS will grab him for sure.

If we use our first pick on a 'half back flanker who could eventually move into the midfield' who's missed a whole season with injury, I'm done.

That may be so, but we need KPFs, mids and rucks before KPDs.
Logue played midfield at colts level and has the tank to play midfield. I just don't know if he played inside midfield.

People forget that Fyfe hadn't played midfield before drafted and was taken lower down because he was seen as a third tall.

I reckon Logue's fitness base, counterattack and genuine KPD height make him an exception you might make, particularly with Bobby gone. I'm not all confident he'd make it to 14 personally.

Might be a Crowbot at 13

Don't know.

From what I have read this year's draft appears to be deep-ish for midfielder types. However, it sounds as if not many of them are expected to be out and out stars by the time our picks come around. Next year for talls but by the time our picks come into play the better ones will be gone.

Given that others will be focusing on midfieders, are we in the position to take a punt this year and draft the best talls available with all 4 picks?
Long term wise it may work well as usually there will be a smokey in there somewhere.

Obviously not the best idea short term wise.
