Krak still doesn't have a contract? Have we put an offer on the table as yet? Does Krak have interest elsewhere?
If we upgrade him then he gets a main list contract on like 100k or something.

Since stewy has left does that mean we may get a delisted free agent.
I think if we don't upgrade someone off the rookie list that could happen.

IMO we'll upgrade Krakouer and rookie Eddy instead.
ok cool. I remembered we went into last season one short on the senior list. I think if we get eddy as a rookie then i would like us to also rookie or late draft a project ruck forward also.

One minor thing that I love about Drew is that when he spreads from a contest he tends to spread into the corridor rather than out wide to the flanks for an easy touch. When he gets it on the spread the team is then into full on transition.

The rare times I saw him in the centre or the thick of action in the champs I thought he set up very defensively around stoppages. Seemed very aware defensively. Not sure if that was something directly asked of him or something he naturally does. Would be great if port could find a mid who was very good both ways.

Finally just watching some footage of the draftees, geez Todd Marshall is basically Westhoff MkII, far out they look crazy similar. Just looks like Marshall may have a bit more polish.

You're right. The similarity is striking. This sent me back to the 2006 draft to see where Westhoff would be drafted if this were done with the benefit of hindsight. Most neutrals have him in the 10-15 range. So if Marshall is available at 14, I think we take him.

The podcast crew probably won't agree with me here, but I think in hindsight you'd be happy with Westhoff at #14, so Westhoff Mk 2 at #14 makes sense when we need a tall forward.

With our four picks i want
A genuine mid
A forward/mid
A kpd
A kpf (marshall/battle/kerr/sproules)

Would he fall to our 2nd pick? Would like an inside mid with our 1st.
If pick 15 isn't used on an Academy bid i could see GWS going marshall
With Schache (spelling?) And academy KPPs in next year's draft can't see Brisbane going him tbh

I'm not against taking Marshall at 14.

You seem to know a fair bit about the younguns. Would you be against bidding for Sproule at 14. If GWS want him, they will have to take him at 15 and not 39 or whatever there next pick is. We're looking good on the last 2 195+cm boys we've got from their acadamy and Sproule looks the goods. Models his game on Nick Riewolt. 197cm mobile fwd.

If GWS match and take him at 15, at least there is 1 more to choose from at 17 that may not have been there

That's an interesting one I'd have to think about. I've said before that I think he's a shot at being the best forward in this draft.

That isn't to say he has the highest ceiling, just that he has similar tools to a Marshall, but with more consistency to his game so far. Not as good when the ball hits the ground and the fact that Marshall is seen to have a lot more improvement in him due to the cricket/no preseason and preparation thing.

Gut feel says no, because he's every chance to not make it as well and GWS may well call our bluff that early. But that's definitely an interesting proposition.

I think on output he'd fit there for sure

14 for Sproule. I'd have to think about that. My gut feel is too early

An interesting question is whether academy kids - particularly those tied to the GWS academy which seems very well run - get an increased value over other draftees due to the time and coaching already put into them by the academy?

After thinking about it, if Marshall is there, there's no way we should bid on Sproule.

If Marshall isn't there, I'd prefer a mid, but wouldn't melt if we bid on Sproule and GWS didn't match.

If GWS did match, then that's just a win regardless.

The academy is an interesting one - I think there's at the very least a slight increase in value, but it doesn't always work out that way if a player's form drops (such as Allison this year). The thing that surprises me is where a lot of bids come for players from the academy. I wasn't expecting Himmelberg to be bid on at pick 16 last year, especially ahead of an academy player like Ben Keays. Adelaide bid on him, being a tall forward, and then when matched, selected a medium defender instead.

The issue there is if we rate Witherden and Berry better value than Sproule we lose one of them. I like the idea of Sproule but manipulation of the pick could bite. GWS have more talls than they know what to do with we may get away with a second round bid.

Yeah, I would be happy with either Marshall or Sproule. I just think the one area GWS has proven to do well is developing young talls. So happy with the way Howard and Austin have performed early.

I am still baffled by Cripps belief that the player they want will still be there at pick 14.
We must think English of Marshall will still be available - they are the only two I can think of - I will be stoked with either.

Im unconvinced about Marshall. Truthfully i hope he goes early so that 1) we dont spend a first rounder on him, and 2) it would increase our chances of getting Powell-Pepper at 14.
i agree theres something about him i just cant quite figure it out

Not that hard to expect the player you thought you would get at 9 would still be there a 14 if they are like me and have Drew at 9 or someone like that. If it is scrimshaw then i think you are tempting fate

English will be gone by pick 7 ;)
