Witherden, hell yes!

Agree YES PLEASE..... a footballer plenty of time and uses ball well by hand and foot...noticed he doesn't have to use his wrong foot(left) most times as he is very composed with plenty of time...info background states he could play midfield as well... would be very happy with him at either 14 or 17.

OK it is official I want Ratugolea, I don't care if it is a risk pick 30,31 would at least give us something to be excited about

Can someone help with the track record of highly rated players who missed their draft year?

I can only think of -

Stringer- win (but I think he got back late)
Trengove- win
Burton- ???
Francis- ???

Others?

Francis played plenty in his draft year, as did Trengove.

Beau Muston and Tom Swift were two fails. Marlon Motlop and Ben Newton two more. Damon White another. Phil Davis only played a couple of games. Joel Selwood turned out alright.

Simpkin or berry at 14.

Didnt mind graham's highlights. Drew was okay but nothing sensational, liked Parfit better.

Lots of middle of the road, servicable talent, but would have been even more confident if we had 9 still. 9 would have been a real standout.

The potential combinations at 14 and 17 are fantastic.

Heaven forbid our football department might know what they are doing.

Logue has got a bit of Hombsch about him with the left foot and intercept skills.

Agree that we have other needs first, but he would be a good get with O'Shea, Carlile and Stewy gone.

Watching a couple of minutes of highlights. Simpkin...yes please. He's a gun. Does anyone know the extent of his injury. Was it a tib / fib or just the fibula?

Witherden. meh. I got bored watching his highlights!

If it somehow happened, I would be over the moon with Logue and Berry at 14/17. I think one will slide, but not the second to 17.

There is probably only one live pick between our 14 and 17 as GWS will be forced to use their pick 15 on Setterfield or Perryman. Brisbane have that live pick. Their coach has identified the need for a small pressure forward and an intercept marking half back. If Simpkin, Logue or Scrimshaw were still available at 14, they would be on Brisbane's list.

Point is, we will probably be thinking at 14 something like- "ok we want Berry and Marshall. Brisbane more likely to grab Berry if we don't so go Berry-Marshall rather than Marshall-Berry." We will effectively be picking 14 and 17 when we pick 14.

Don't forget. We also rated the person we will get at pick 14 as someone we would pick at 9. So really, we are getting effectively two top 10 picks! Legit!!

Thanks for pointing that out. It's easy to understand that academy selections may push a pick back in the draft. What's a bit less known is that a draft pick may be brought forward because a pick has already been used to select an academy player much earlier.

You rate over Berry, Simpkin?
It may be unfair but Vic metro lads always concern me for the go-home factor.

I think he is a higher need than those two in terms of player and has the highest scope.

I looked up Simpkin's injury. It was just a broken fib. (with some ligament damage) I would assume that a broken fib at his age with good rehab is a pretty minor injury for an afl career. Also read read he got a scholarship to a boarding school. He's used to being out of home and in a system. He's another to add to my want list.

Witherden has that "Gone by pick 5 look about him" Ok he's lost the season though injury but if he slides we'll have done well.

I can see the attraction with Battle just worried decent defenders are a bit taller and a fair bit more athletic.

Simpkin and Brandon Parfitt both look good Parfitt looks good in the middle more so but Simpkin didn’t get the opportunity though the middle this year I wouldn't doubt it would be a problem for him.

Marshall looks good as far as highlights go and would not think twice about picking him up if available at our first couple. On video I'm not giving Brisbane a look at Witherden though.

Simpkin 100% yes but confident he goes top 10-12 watching few clips Venables at 17 yes please. I still feel 2 mids at 14,17 is the way to go as for Witherden its a no unless there at 30 so unlikely
