Can someone help with the track record of highly rated players who missed their draft year?

I can only think of -

Stringer- win (but I think he got back late)
Trengove- win
Burton- ???
Francis- ???

Others?
Lever is another

Francis really doesn't count as he played most of the season

After going through those highlights and with who might be available at our picks I would go SPP, Gallucci, Drew, Battle, Le Bois, best available ruck.

SPP: fast, powerful, big bodied goal kicking mid.

Gallucci: fast, good ball user, goal kicking mid who also hits up targets.

Drew: big bodied mid, good ball winner and distributor.

These 3 combined could easily form a quality midfield for the next 10 years, and all offer something a bit different to what we have on our list now. All 3 look ready to play early in their careers.

Battle: probably the best KPF at our 2nd round picks. May not have the upside of Marshall, but would be ready to play early in his career and looks like a natural footballer and a confident kick on goal. Can target more KPPs next year.

Le Bois - looks like a quality small forward who can go in the middle as well. Super quick and goal smart - hopefully an upgrade on Neade.

Developing ruck: Ryder and Lobbe are getting older and Frampton is not a definite lock to make it.

Would also be very happy with Simpkin with one of those first 2 picks. Beautiful kick, good decision maker and seems to have time.

That's helpful considering that we technically don't have two first rounders since the first round will always finish after pick 16 no matter how many teams there are, the talent depth isn't there to have more than 15/16 picks in the first round.

Will GWS take McGrath still knowing they probably won't have the points for Setterfield if the rumoured draft sanctions go through? Would throw the whole draft on its head

You would think so. McGrath is still a way better option.

If it somehow happened, I would be over the moon with Logue and Berry at 14/17. I think one will slide, but not the second to 17.
Purely because we could talk about 2016 as the year we drafted Loganberry, I imagine?

Stripping gws off pick 15 and 37 would be like fining Gina Reinhart $300 for extortion and blackmail charges.

Absolutely. If this is the case. If GWS are considered to be guilty of an offence then out of the first round should be a minimum penalty.

I could live with that

We would have to dust off the tapes of Setterfield and Perryman if they lost some picks.

Some interesting highlights, the question is which ones are going to be 'average joe' in 3-5 years and which ones are going to be the real thing. I don't envy the guys having to make the decision 'but' sometimes you look at a kid and just say 'there's that x factor', and for me and simply my opinion i'm looking at;
- SPP
- Gallucci
- Atley
- Florent

If we could get two to three of these kids above i'd be ABSOLUTELY stoked. Then add a forward from either of Marshall, Battle, Kerr.
Happy Days indeed.

The AFL wouldn't do a thing even if there was something proved. And even if they did, and somehow decided to take action against their lovechild nothing could happen till the 2017 draft.

But first they'd have to have a commission meeting to decide if they should do that and then wait for all the appeals to be over so id say by about 2020 they MIGHT lose a draft pick

An effective way for me to work out who I really want at 14, is ask myself
Would I be annoyed/worried if the crows grab that player with 13, if that answer is no then you don't really want them at 14/17

IMO that rules out
Sympkin
Gallucci
Scharenberg
Jack Graham
Bolton
C Cox

Funny how most of them are early second rounders!

Well to be fair our two picks will probably end up outside the top 16 so in essence they are 2 second rounders, so we ended up with 4 second round picks.

Isn't it going to be our picks will be 16 and 18 most likely

Last time i checked 18 team comp, so two first rounders (just)

What?

Extending the numbers of picks in the first round does not make those later picks magically better than they used to be.

Picking a player with a late first rounder today is the same as picking a player early in the second round when it used to be a 16 team competition. Which one is rated higher? they're exactly the same pick.

And? It's still a first round pick.
