So the possibility of losing two picks this year will not affect GWS at all. Am I reading this right Macca? It does seem typical of the AFL and their wet lettuce approach to punishment.

Lets say Carlton bid on Perryman with pick 5, which is matched, then they bid on Setterfield with the same pick and its matched again. It means they only have 1902 points to match over 3000 points worth of bids on just two players. So immediately they go into deficit in the first round next year. And thats just two players. Add in Sproule and Mutch and Cumming and Macreadie and Garthwaite and they either won't be able to match many of those bids, or they will churn through all of their picks next year in doing so.

So on face value it may not seem much of a penalty, but when you delve deeper, and so long as other clubs bid early on those two players, then they'll definitely be impacted.

but cant they use multple picks to accumulate the required points. They might use, pick 15 and pick 35 and still owe. So is their first or second rounder next year moved back. Or is it where the pick was matched ie pick 14 if matching Adelaide?

Its wherever the bid is matched. So if they go into deficit by 100 points in matching a 3rd round bid this year, then next year their 3rd round pick (say pick 53) will then turn into pick 62.

If in my example in the post above, they go into deficit by 1100 points in the first round by accepting bids for Perryman and Setterfield in that example, then (for example) their pick 12 next year will turn into pick 59.

There is also a limit as to how much deficit you can go into, so they may end up being 'banned' from picking some players because they'll go into too much deficit by matching the bids.

If GWS go 1000 odd points into defecit matching the first two bids, what do they do for the rest of the draft? Take picks after everyone else has finished? Have a short list? Match bids with no points? Afl makes up weird rules.

If GWS picks get taken away, they may only take Setterfield and Perryman and allow one or both of Macreadie or Sproule to slip through if they dont want to go into too much of a deficit for next year. Pretty sure they have a few good ones next year too. Or if Macreadie and Sproule are bid on in twenties and let go, they might match a bid for the lesser lights of Mutch, Cumming, Lynch and Garthwaite if they come later because it wont effect next year too much. Going to be an interesting draft night.

I don't know why we're even considering that the AFL will do something to GWS. Everyone knows it will not happen. The only time the AFL could ever have shown strength is in forcing the other clubs to agree to their academy rules for GWS. Blind Freddy could have seen what these rules would mean and that GWS would have been taking 2 or 3 top 10 players even when they were a top 4 side so you can't convince me that other team coaches and presidents happily agreed to them.

Powell-Peppers kick is a lot better than people give him credit for. Most of the criticism is based off his 2015 youtube highlights which are 18 months old. He's improved his kicking and decision making a lot this year.

I reckon he's a fair bit Shannon Hurn like actually.

I read Todd Marshall's draft profile in Inside Football's Draft special and it starts off with;
"Todd burst onto the scene not being involved in any football program because he was a cricketer. On natural ability there is probably none better in the TAC Cup........"

Marshall has grown on me the last month watching his footage, reading about his exploits and seeing in many phantom drafts he will be available around our #14 and #17 pick. After reading the above yesterday, I remembered something my mate D_One wrote back in late 2012, after we got smashed again, think the game before the draw against Richmond in the final game, and he was bemoaning the quality of our list and our recruiters and their strategies.

Our last two recruiting managers came from a cricketing back ground. We now have a very diverse and potent bowling attack and we bat down to number nine.

Maybe ex cricketer Parker has taken a shine to him as well.

Just watched "the Grill" where they asked some of the top prospects a few questions, ie weirdest recruitment questions (flashbacks to job hunting in my final yer of Uni - eurgh)

What got my goat however was the "which team do you support" question. The interviewer only expressed shock on two occasions (Really? how did that happen?)- for Berry with GWS and for English with PA? Why is someone supporting PA such a shock - and more of the shock than SPS supporting Brisbane or Logue St K? FFS.

He's a power kick in a similar vein to Hartlett in that it's difficult to assess - players with the depth in their kicking are fairly rare, but they lack the precision. Hartlett as a junior did demonstrate the class and incisiveness over shorter distances, which I guess is the reason why he went at four and Powell-Pepper will go mid to late first round at earliest.

I can't see it happening. They went into trade period looking for a quality mid and failed, so they'll be looking at the draft for that exact thing. Given this draft suits that, they won't pick Marshall.

Surely the criers would take best available ready to go mid as that is where their biggest deficit is, especially as they believe they are a massive premiership chance. I can't see the point in them getting another forward.

Just looking at Tony Olango's highlights on draft machine. They're worth a look. We've got that late pick. It's pretty clear he's going to cover the ground ok and does have a leap.
