if this is how the draft pans out, Essendon have pick 31, we'd have picks 32 and 33

Which really doesn't mean anything.

Also, I wouldn't be happy with that draft. Twomey seems to think that because we lost O'Shea and Paul Stewart that we need a kicking defender - which neither were. I wouldn't be filthy if we drafted Witherden, but it wouldn't be because we're lacking rebounding defenders... Pittard, DBJ, Broadbent, Bonner...

But I won't be happy if we spend our first pick on Josh Battle. Giving up next year's first rounder and drafting an at-best second tall forward that has huge question marks?

Especially if Florent is there.

Listening to the AFL.com.au podcast with Callum Twomey, Nat Edwards and Mick Ablett, they've done a top 30 mock draft...

I will be upset if we pick Battle before Marshall.

so if that draft did pan out, I'll assume Essendon pick Dylan Clarke at 31, who do we pick at 32 and 33?

I think Jack Graham might be one of them

I might actually throw the toys out of the cot if this is what we end up with at our first 2 picks....
would take Marshall before Battle and would take Florent/SPP/Venables/Gallucci before Witherden.

I think Jack Graham might be one of them

Jonty Scharenberg & Liam Ryan is who I think the club would pick.

I don't want battle with either of our first two picks. Witherden yes looks good

why?

according to Champion Data, they rank Battle at 14 and Marshall at 29, Marshall had a poor second half of the year, they think there's a massive differential between his best and worst

Battle had a better year.

Marshall has a significantly higher ceiling.

Do you draft on what they've already achieved, or do you draft on what you hope they achieve in the future?

If Battle is there at 30 or 31 i'd be alright to take him. But with our first pick, that's a huge huge call to make.

There are rumours that Brodie has been pretty vocal to clubs in his desire to stay in Victoria. So the only way I see him falling to our pick is if he's told a bunch of clubs he's out the door after one contract and he falls past Carlton and North.

It's remotely plausible.

Should he fall to our pick of course- should we pick him up knowing he is a potential flight risk?

So what this means is Marshall at 31 is possible. Wow.
The word is Marshall won't get past our pick 23. I doubt you will select him anyway, as I read that you were confident that the player you wanted at pick 9 would be available at 14. All available evidence points to you selecting Battle (unfortunately).

Also, apparently Florent will not leave Victoria for family reasons.

me personally, I'd like to see us take Venables at the first pick

GWS will either spend or lose pick 15, Brisbane don't need tall forwards, they'll probably pick whichever mid we pass up

so I agree, Battle at 17 makes more sense

Huge calls, rolling the dice have been a theme this preseason

Isn't the same said for marshall?

Why would you expect that to be about Battle rather than Marshall?

Not sure how that necessarily points to either of them, to be honest.

There are a few clubs Marshall shouldn't get past, yet he's ranked 29. Not sure I've seen such a slide from a touted top 10 pick before the actual draft!

During trade period, I can't imagine the club would have been confident of selecting Marshall at pick 14. He is widely rated a top 20 talent and you couldn't have been sure of who was going to have picks ahead of you at that stage.

To be clear, I thought your trade with Sydney was very shrewd. I am not completely sold on the decision to trade away your 2017 first rounder though...
