Need to take a look at his parents. If you look at Westhoff's old man and uncle and even his mother you knew the genetics said he was going to be a tall lean/skinny player. Matthew had the same genetics.

Given that there is a fair bit of talk now linking us to Witherden and Marshall, how would people feel about not taking a genuine mid with pick 14 or 17? I'd be disappointed if it panned out that way.

Considering heading into this off season the clear one need we had was elite midfield talent, if we walk away from the 1st round without at least 1 gun mid then I'd be devastated. Especially after giving up pick 9. I expect a minimum of 1 mid. I can live with a key forward in the 1st round, but only a key forward, and only if we WILL get a gun mid with our other pick. For that reason we are pretty lucky that we'll have pick 14 and 16 so basically 2 picks linked together.

Not happy especially for a back flanker would pefer Hayward or English if not picking a midfielder

I can accept Gallucci and Marshall. Witherden would be like a concession that we expect to lose Pittard in 12m.

It would give us Witherden, Bonner, Pittard, Hartlett, Broadbent and Krakouer vying for the roles of HBF, with not one definite midfielder among them.

In all honesty, I'd take any combo of Marshall & Gallucci/Simpkin/Berry/Powell-Pepper at #14 & #17 and be happy.

I have no doubt about this, but rather than take the best player available at each pick, I would argue that we need to draft to need as our squad has become unbalanced due to the inability of our pockets and flankers (Broadbent, Hartlett, Pittard, Young and as yet Wingard and Impey) to graduate to prolific and consistent centre square mids.

As a result, any time so read about a young flanker having scope to move into the midfield, my inner response is to think "yeah right, not at Port they don't".

I especially don't want us recruiting back flankers this year.
