Hayward
Marshall

Port's second-round picks could push back a few spots in the 30s depending on bids on the night. With one of them they might grab powerful midfielder Brandan Parfitt, who was hit by injuries this season but has played in SA and has talent. He will be in the mix for Port. Others who could be looked at in the 30s range include medium defenders Sam Walker and Mitchell Hinge, both from South Australia, while Dylan Clarke is also a possibility if still available. Clarke is a hard-working clearance machine with a brilliant running stamina that gets him from one end of the ground to the other. Port is another club who may consider Luke Ryan from the VFL, while they have shown some interest in Bailey Banfield but perhaps as a rookie.

This is probably overly cynical but I get the impression that his guy, like many of the respected draft watchers, is an expert when it comes to upcoming talent but ultimately knows shit all about our great club.

He's probably watched us play maybe a handful of times this season. He's looked at our retirements and delistings. He's seen that Jay Schulz has retired and that we cut Butcher, and so draws the logical conclusion that we will be chasing forwards with our first two picks. He's not really sure who or what we need at 30/31 but he's seen that Carlile retired and so suggests some defenders, and of course u cant go wrong with suggesting local talent so he then links us to a couple of fairly average south australians.

Take it with a grain of salt.

Pick 14, Port Adelaide...

*parker runs google analytics to find out which player has been mentioned the least in the pre-draft hype*

THAT GUY!

So we're likely to get pushed all the way back to 16 & 18. That's not ideal, but at the same time it looks like 9 will become 11 so probably not a bad result in hindsight.

Can someone work out what we'd need to finish with picks 16 & 18 to break even on our 2017 pick trade.

Also Brett Anderson has S Bolton at 30 pick before Ports and Battle at 43. I will take Bolton and Battle with 30,31 please (31,32 after academy picks)

out: 11, next years first, 49, 67
in: 16, 18, 31, 33

(worst case scenario) we have pick 8 as breakeven, or about 7.5

Not saying we won't take Hayward but... can someone explain why that would be a good pick. 186cm marking forward who doesn't seem to have any exposed form in other roles. Most of the phantom drafters have him going at pick 20-ish as a James Sicily clone, Quigley doesn't rate him at all.

If we traded pick 9 and our first rounder next year for Hayward and Marshall I will be pissed.

1- Marshall pass, pass and pass. Do not want
2- Hayward meh.

Would be extremely disappointed. Especially considering all the talk of "this is a great draft for midfielders".. yeah let's draft a inconsistent meh tall forward and a 186 marking forward

Hayward is a lot more like Brett Burton than James Sicily. He's very quick, has a huge kick, regularly bangs goals from outside 50, could move into the midfield, knows how to lead and move inside 50 to his advantage. He could potentially end up one of the best players out of this draft. He's got just as much potential, if not more, than SPP for example.

hayward seems like a benny Jacobs pick to me. Jumping on him because of a few big games at the end of the season rather than any consistency.

But he also sounds like a very 'port' selection too....

He kicked multiple goals in 8 out of 11 matches. That's pretty consistent.

Yeh im not sold on Hayward either.

Surely if we wanted a 186 marking forward who's kicking goals in the SANFL then we'd rookie Luke Reynolds. He's still young (21).

Im sure Hayward has more upside but is it really worth the pick difference?

Sicily is 189 cm to Hayward 186 cm. I struggle with his 7 disposal average at the champs. Too short to be a forward and not a mid. Actually I am biased. He just loves everything crow too much. If they don't pick him at 13 he's going to sook.

apologies if this has been said but how the hell can GWS turn pick 15 & 37 into 5 & 12. this a joke surely

The actual selections would work out being:

Pick 5 matched = 15 & 37 whilst they get 65 back

Pick 12 matched = 39, 45 & 52, whilst they get 72 back.

So its Perryman, Setterfield, 65 & 72 for 15, 37, 39, 45 & 52

If these amateur/professional phantom drafters actually went to SA school football, which they don't, then they would have seen Hayward exposed in other roles. From what I have been hearing he won't even get to Adelaide's pick at 13.
