No it doesn't, half the eligible voters didn't vote at all, they're as bad as the Trump voters, at least the Trump supporters would participate in the political process, whether you agree with their positions or not

Let's not even get into those fervent Hillary Clinton fans when she is also terrible in other ways, America is just a dumb country with the most powerful military in the world. Wish we can take those away and just let their circus run their show

I think they're dumber than most. It's the home of evangelical Christianity based on you making the pastors a private jet owner with a huge mansion "for Jesus", it's the home of pyramid schemes and shitty drugs that they sell legally to ruin people. It's not just about the world, Americans really aren't the sharpest tools in the shed
I spend a bit of time on a variety of US, Australian and European sites and by any measure in the western world the least informed public is us here in Australia. There may be more dump people elsewhere but there is no western country with fewer informed people. We just don't debate anything. Our media and politicians just walk in step with their US UK counterparts. There is not even a presence of debate as the field of opinion is so narrow.

The problem with Trump is his history. He is a shyster. He was/is a cheat & & a business crook.
He shoots his big mouth, or tweets it, at the drop of a hat. He shows absolutely no geopolitical nous what so ever. He has no political or legal qualifications. He just shoots from the hip & generally says nothing of substance but a lot of consequences.
He is already at odds with his own republican senators. AND HE HASNT EVEN STARTED AS POTUS.
OMG ;)

Why dont you give him a chance before you throw all those labels at him?
You need to look at my posting
I replied as such due to the over reaction and hyperbole directed at Trump since the primaries
That has gotten worse since the election

Putin's response to Obama's sanctions is hilariously clever. His refusal to retaliate against the US has left Obama looking petulant. I think that Obama overplayed his hand here and Trump will still be able to lift the sanctions without too much criticism. Putin is doing pretty well to reinvent himself in the western world as a more caring and sympathetic leader than he had been seen to be even 2 years ago.
Of all the stupid and idiotic posts here lately, this takes the cake.

His popularity in the western world has risen quite substantially. It's not at all 'idiotic' to suggest that.
His popularity has risen with the far right authoritarian loving types, which isn't all that surprising as those people would've liked him anyway. The rest probably still sees him as what he is

Among Americans only, that's probably decent evidence that he is more popular than at any time since July 2014.

Ever been to a eastern bloc supermarket back in the 1970s or 1980s - your free to choose whatever you want in the store
It's just there is only the home brand and one other

Hey our coles and Safeway appear to be heading the same way.

Sometimes I choose to shop at Foodland. Plenty of choice there.

Matter of fact, I was listening to ABC Radio mid morning & they were discussing just this topic. The gist of the discussion was that Newspapers & news rooms have shed staff. TV news is becoming more like Infotainment.

The driver being Social media. People tend to not want content. They dont have time & cant be bothered concentrating for that long. They tend to look for the media which aligns with their beliefs. They dont want to be challenged, they want to listen to those who already agree with them.

Hence Fox news.

Its a worry. For instance, people discuss their beliefs over Climate change! Its not a belief system, its science. To discuss it needs people to know & understand science. You cant say 'I dont believe in climate change'. You can challenge the science. But many people dont. They just go the anti science 'I dont believe' dumb crap.

The dumbing down & anti science attacks by whoever doesnt like what the science of anything shows us, is a worry. Its the same for politics.

Its a bit like advertising. The Advertisers know how psychology works. You just keep at people with a simple repeatable message. You give people instant gratification of things, information, news, which is easy to understand & wala! People will have their beliefs reinforced &/or avoid the negative things which will need people to change their lives. They will, for instance, disbelieve science. They have no real idea why.

Anyway food for thought. its serious IMO.

Interestingly too, they were saying young people, 13 & up, are taking an interest in politics. The example being that many young people are use to a multicultural society. So they have friends born here of immigrant parents. Many young people are reacting against the anti immigrant mood. Because it affects their friends in a very personal way.

I noticed this with Brexit. The young people in cities are use to Europe, the oldies want Britain to be great again (;)). The vote followed just this line of young V old.

The anti immigrant thing really is an older persons thing, mainly anyway. The 'spot the Aussie thing' when people go to Melbourne & Sydney comes to mind. It is an interesting topic. I've no idea of young people politics, I do know older person racism, ignorance & bias. I get it every day.

The current emnity towards Putin/Russia on behalf of the Obama admin & the DNC/MSM wings of the C.I.A....Has everything to do with Putin exposing them as the ' Real Terrorists' in Syria & for putting a major spanner in their 'plans' for the Middle East.

The election blaming 'merry-go-round', is nothing but a cover for both that angst & Jill Stein's exposing rampant DNC corruption in those self-same polls.

Yet one more Diversionary tactic on the part of this 'black-ops' admin.

And at the same time as supposedly 'abstaining' on Israel in the U.N. This admin was handing over another $38 billion for Israels defense.....Obama the joke of a trickster.:drunk:....It's all about 'seeming' & propaganda....Nothing more, nothing less.

In reply to the Putin/Trump situation. Just look at the Republicans in the senate who are very angry with the Russian cyber activities. It aint Trump v Obama, its Trump v the US Senate, all of them.

Nah, not all of them....Just all the 'corrupted' older heads who have major investments in armaments sales & future oil $$$, flowing along a certain pipeline, that was slated to pass through Syria.;):thumbsu:

It also serves as a convenient cover for the GOP, as they too have been exposed as rampantly corrupt.

What would you prefer?....The American people see the ugly truth, or use the Russians as the Bogey-man?....Come on man, wake-up to their BS.

U.S politicians are getting rich & bloated on the innocent blood of Arab civilians.

Anyone who still buys the U.S are the 'good-guys' premise is a blinded fool.

Good on the ABC - Sincerely!
But I don't agree that people just want infotainment. I believe people are desperate for quality informative articles, books, movies, documentaries, discussion. Read the comments section of the big newspapers NYT, WP, Guardian and you find amongst all the trash a staggering diversity and intellect which is honestly embarrassing to the journalist and the newspaper. But rather than engage with the best of their audience they reprint the same predictable trite. Clearly, these papers are more interested in pushing a particular worldview ahead of providing quality information. This, as much as anything explains why they were blindsided by the Trump victory - they are geared to create a reality not to inform us of it. This time they failed and they appear to be failing more and more often.

In frustration people are forced to search the internet for alternative media and social media like this to engage in something organic and authentic. Some of course end up on weird conspiracy sites, or other extreme or reality shifting sites. But honestly, who can blame them when the mainstream media has itself become fake news.

I entirely reject the "anti-immigrant mood" as you called it. The MSM is interpreting it that way but its hog wash. Their narrative lost - Hillary and Stay - so they are having the other of all dummy spit and blaming it on racism - of course. Lets examine the causes one step at a time and see if we can root out the true villain of these outrageous election results.

- there are loads, millions and millions of refugees entering other countries and many western countries
- In Germany alone last year almost a million refugees
- they are coming from the middle east largely from war torn destroyed countries in civil war
- Some but very few of these refugees are radicalised and anti-western and want to commit some crazy act of violence we are told
- western governments decided to invade Iraq and Afghanistan
- Western governments helped overthrow a stable and prosperous Libya
- Western Government funded a civil war in Syria to overthrow Assad
- Western Governments and Western media has repeatedly told us that a portion of Muslims hate America
- Western Governments told us some of these muslims want to fly aeroplanes into our skyscrapers
- Western Government told us some of these muslims behead people and worse.
- There have been a number of civilian attacks in western countries by these reportedly radicalised muslims.
- The western economies had major recession in 2008/9 from which the world is struggling to recover from
- Western citizens feel their jobs are insecure and don't feel optimistic about their finances

Nothing very controversial there. So lets draw some findings. The western world has largely created this refugee crisis because it decided to invade, overthrow or whatever else when it demonised the existing regimes. The western world provided the armaments and trained people to use them to basically destroy their own countries. At was perfectly predictable that this would cause displacement and large numbers of refugees.

now 24/7 the media is bleating about terrorists and that they are radical muslims and then there is an event and then there all these millions of muslim refugees - is it not predictable that a significant number of people will go I don't want those guys hear.

Then the economy is not going so well and all the sob stories in the world are going to persuade people it is a good thing to accept all these refugees.

Finally, if we've got this far we can make some conclusions and identify the culprit.
Forgive me but the real cause here is the destruction of these peoples homes and infrastructure and schools and hospitals and the persecution and the maiming and the murder. The real criminal here is is our western foreign policy. Our Western Governments and Our Media who have slavishly defended them at every malignant turn.

Maybe we should take more refugees for our sins, Jordan, Egypt and Turkey have taken 7 million. Maybe we should. But before you do that you need to address the cause otherwise next year and the year after there will be another 7 million displaced refugees all who have lived thru hell. The first step is to change our foreign policy. We owe these people a massive apology and far better then just apologising and accepting them would be to spend the money to repair their countries. No body wants to leave their home.

This is not a matter of racism - it is matter of bloody minded war crimes - mass murder , torture, open aggression and we, we are responsible. We have radicalised them and when we went into these countries with our allies we Australians became culpable.

This is the irony par excellence - our left wing identity fighting, self hating social warrior youth can tell you about the excesses of western colonialism during the 16th 17th 18th 19th centuries, they can fight the use of inappropriate pronouns, the inequality of women, the oppression of transgender, but when the gravest crime is committed in their name they are timid. I expect many of them honour ANZAC day. Sure they'll attend and anti-war rally. But their real angst will be directed at some politically incorrect comment, some slight.

Tell them you voted for Trump and watch out. You supported the war in Iraq, torture, the overthrow of Gaddafi - no problems.

Nice attempt at revisionist history. The original graph had no such claim. That title only came after I pointed out that you didn't notice the net favourability.
No, the headline proved that what I originally said was correct. My interpretation of the graph was that Putin's approval had gone up with Republicans.
