List Mgmt. 2016 re-signing mission accomplished!

I hope we keep Green. We have a huge hole for that role and he still has a lot of potential. Give the new strength and conditioning coach a crack at him and we could have a real force. I thought this year was the first where he looked to have genuinely accepted his forward role and was working on the skills associated with that. Injury and condition inhibited him but he was nowhere near as bad as most on here seem to have concluded. Lack of defensive pressure was an issue but you could say the same for 21 other players on the park each week. New structures, new expectations could turn that around.

Gardiner re-signing is a bit of meh for me. Slow undersized defender who gives away silly frees and is outpositioned too often. Personally I cannot see him being in our side when we get back to the finals. Depth player.
Agree on Green. Specialist small forwards are back in vogue, now's not the time to be turfing the only player on our list who can fill that role effectively (well, at least the attacking part anyway).

Not so much on Gardiner. He's been hampered by injuries, but I'm hopeful that he can fill that Stratton/Morris/Patfull in between defender role for us. Maybe he won't reach those heights, but I think your assessment is a bit harsh- especially given that Frost is our only other pure lockdown defender at the moment.

Josh Green is gone- lions.com his meeting with Chris Fagan mustn't have gone too well.

The Brisbane Lions have delisted forward Josh Green.

The Tasmanian, who was drafted in 2010, played 81 games between 2011-2016.

Football General Manager David Noble thanked Green for his commitment to the Lions.

“It is disappointing when any player departs, and Josh has given great service to our Club.

“We thank him for his time at the Club and wish him all the best for his future,” said Noble.

It takes the Lions' total number of list changes to nine for the season, with retired trio Daniel Merrett, Trent West and Justin Clarke having already departed.

Josh Green

Draft Details: 2010 National Draft, pick 32 overall
Drafted: Clarence (Tasmania)
Debut: 2011
Games: 81
Goals: 107

Someone will pick him up in the PSD or rookie draft, but it's great to see us setting a new standard of professionalism. Goddamn are the adults now in charge or what!

Thanks Greeny. You're a likeable larrikin but we need to get serious.

Forward pocket spot there for the taking by Ainsworth in round 1.

yep, Ainsworth will be an immediate upgrade on Greeny and will probably be fitter than Green was after 81 games in his debut round 1 v the suns.

Ainsworth will also be a straight swap and increase the average height into the mozzie squad. Ainsworth 179cm v Green 177cm.

The sad thing is that Green had the attributes to be a very good attacking inside mid, but just didn't work hard enough to demand the chance in the middle, so he was forced to ply his trade as a small forward, but unfortunately the evolving requirements of that position means that his lack of work rate and fitness did him in yet again.

Small, lazy and with a limited engine is a really weak base. You've got to be really
special in other areas to make up for that.

#putyoursubsout
It's great because of footlong subs, and that he was more often than not our sub on game day too.

The hashtag that keeps on giving. :D

Dog is now officially wagging the tail again. Love it.

Order is restored.
going in the right direction, will be interesting to see how Rocky reacts to the new Fagan/Noble regime. i am backing he has a career best season without the captaincy and more time resting forward. plenty of players have turned their attitude around after copping a well deserved rocket.

i am looking forward to getting down to training in a few weeks to see if there is any noticeable difference in intensity and training methods from last off season.

I still like the idea of Bewick playing as a small forward. His tackling and workrate improved this year and he's dangerous around goals. He's also good overhead.

The club got ahead of the game with Green and leaked his asking price to the media. It really changed the narrative around him. We'd be getting lambasted for this otherwise.

It just shows how important PR is in the modern AFL.

It's also a gentle reminder that the clubs still have a lot of power over their players. The balance has shifted a bit but not 180 degrees.

More proof that Ainsworth is most likely heading to our club. And he will be a marked improvement. Green had plenty of ability but wasn't prepared to do the hard yards.. No coincidence he started getting injuries last few seasons. Still has something to offer another club and maybe it's the kick up the backside he needs? But good to see the new regime setting strong standards.

I just wish he would grab ONE of those screamers.

Who is (or was) Greens manager?

To go from demanding $500K/year to being delisted by the spoon favourites is a pretty big fall from grace.

I wonder if there is any way Green can sue his manager for this. At some point they need to take responsibility.
