Howe and Hartung not necessarily best 22 for the Hawks. Shiels will be the one who will be missed. Interesting to see where WhiteX will play. Might add a bit of grunt to the midfield perhaps. What are you thoughts on McGlynn in for Rose? Simply form based or is it rather experience vs inexperienced as the game is big in context for the season.

It's pretty strange that Hartung's out. Pretty much the only area they've beaten us with over the last few years was speed. Hartung, Hill and Smith are their main culprits for this, and Hill's out of form. So pretty strange decision. I have a feeling Clarkson's prepping for a tough, contested slog.

Heeney needs to do what McGlynn did and go back to the reserves and earn a senior spot with a good performance.

Form I imagine as Rose has been really quiet the last few weeks.

I would've rathered Foote than McGlynn. Just wanna get as far away from 2013-2015 Sydney as possible.
Foote is a midfielder and we need really someone up forward who can snag goals. McGlynn isn't a great set shot but he can crumb and kicks well enough on the run.

Really poor change in my books. My greatest fear coming in to finals is that Horse will stop backing the youth and revert to his more experienced players who are cooked, like McGlynn.

Absolutely no point playing Heeney in the reserves. If he's fit to play he plays seniors.

McGlynn has played a number of quietly solid games this year in the seniors. The conventional wisdom on here is that he's finished but he's bobbed up and kicked important goals in quite a few games this year.

I'm actually liking our defensive match ups more than normally tomorrow night.

Smith - Rioli
Grundy - McEvoy/Ceglar
Aliir - Sicily
Rampe - Gunston
Jones - Puopolo
Mills - Breust

I'm pretty optimistic about that lot if the midfield does what it should and controls the contested ball.

Don't mind McGlynn in like for like and if Heeney isn't at 100% (couldn't hurt to get some confidence again in reserves). And I think McGlynn will play a good game, had a good few weeks of fitness and played well for reserves by all reports.

Still think he's probably an upgrade on Rose at this stage.
Rose and McGlynn are not like for like. Papley is the similar role.

I like it, Mcglynns our equal 4th leading goal kicker and Rose hasn't exactly set the world on fire in his games this year.

I have no doubt Heeney is best 22 when fit. He might only be playing limited minutes for that very reason

I'm sure this must have already been mentioned by some one on here but how soft have the last 6 weeks been for the Hawks.

After losing to us in Round 9, home at the MCG they have played Brisbane, Melbourne, Essendon, a depleted North (who kicked badly & lost by just 9 points),
Gold Coast & Port Adelaide!

That means the hardest game they had was against North who sit 8th & are on the slide.

No wonder Clarko has been mouthing off in the media trying to get a 'psychological advantage' over the last two weeks. He has genuine fear!

They have been gifted a nice run right in the middle of the year.

Heeney is in PUTRID form. It's not just his knees, he's completely lost form and touch. He's now had two weeks of rest in the past month. If he's fine for senior selection then he should have no difficulty proving it this week in the NEAFL.

Let's reward performance. No one should be an automatic selection.

I think Heeney's form has dipped with the absence of Tippett. A lack of a key marking forward has hurt the structure.

Rose's form has dropped off the last two weeks. He just can't get into the games enough.

Hill for the Hawks seems lucky to survive given Hartung is the one make way.
He simply cannot hit the scoreboard

I suggested this very fact on the Hawks board.

Needless to say it didn't get received very well.

I'd actually like to see him working with Papley again because their combined defensive pressure is fantastic.

I'm desperate to see Heeney back in the seniors but he needs to show he can contribute. He had a good opportunity after the bye and didn't come close to delivering. After a while his lack of contribution hurts the overall team performance.

They don't beat us with speed. They beat us with spread and accurate kicking. We need to close down the uncontested option, and pressure the disposal.
