Stosur is so overrated it isn't even funny. Every part of her game is average. Puig has shots that hurt Sam. No surprise Sam is losing. Lol at thinking Sam can get back, players have figured her out- just hit it to her backhand all day long and you win more than you lose.
Despite having one of the best serves on tour I agree with you, but her ability is not overrated. She just has the worst mind for tennis. Fix that and she'd have more than one slam to her name.

She has an above average serve let's not go overboard there. Her ability is overrated she just isn't that good. Backhand is an absolute mess and the top players belt her on that side. She was lucky she fluked one slam!

Puig was absolute easy money.

Bit harsh on Puig to lump her in the minnow category!

This. Puig is a very dangerous player, with a big game to her.

Crowd looks a lot better tonight. The double Aussie lineup must have drawn them. The organisers may have realised the empty seat look for the Groth match last night wasn't a good look so offered up cheaper or free tickets for tonight to fill in the gaps...

Also Tomic is much better than watching than serve bot Groth. Today had a better lineup with Halep's match.

I still can't believe Sam won a US open. I am sorry but to me Sam is an average player.

Very average player who made the most of what she is as a player

Tomic should cruise pass Gabashvili and Troicki in upcoming matches.

Tomic v Dimtrov final?

Won't put it past Dimitrov to lose before the final

Always felt she'd be a good, solid top 15 player, and therefore was a bit surprised when she made it so deep into the top 10 despite her deficiencies (backhand and mental strength). A slam and a slam final rounds off a respectable career despite her inability to perform at home, she's done pretty well with what she's got.

She'll eventually be remembered alongside players like Pennetta and Bartoli, and that's fine.

She has by far the most technically sound second serve on the tour, and is the most successful and consistent Australian tennis player for the last decade. Compare the media coverage she gets compared to the hype and media circle jerking surrounding Kyrgios and Kokkanakis and even the likes of Groth - all of which havent even won a title. She doesn't make headlines cos she's too busy working her butt off training harder than anyone else.

Plus a French open grandslam final, 8 WTA tour titles, 24 doubles titles, 2 doubles grandslams, 2 world tour finals doubles titles, 2 mixed doubles grandslams, highest singles ranking 4, highest doubles ranking 1...yeah pretty average player.

She obviously has some mental demons performing at home. If she had replicated her away success on home soil Im certain public opinion would be completely different. People only judge her from what they see for the two weeks of the year anyone gives a damn about tennis in this country.

Serena's serve is better, period. Not even close there. The reason why Nick gets the headlines is firstly because he has the game, and secondly as he has a bit of a swag, and people love that more than they don't. He has less weaknesses. Needs to refine his game, but he is ready to burst through and most astute judges are saying the exact same thing and that isn't just from the Australian media.

Stosur has done well to have some success (and well done to her) with a limited game, she is very one dimensional.

Kyrgios gets headlines cos firstly hes a ********, secondly he has a big serve and forehand. Most people in this country who know Kyrgios' name probably havent even watched him play. They didn't see him bow out first round to a qualifier in Valencia or watch him crumble under pressure in the Davis Cup to someone ranked 100+, or get tamed by the likes of Lopez, Benoit Paire, Elias Ymer and even Mad Dog. Mentally he's more unstable than Stosur. In fact radium is comparable to that campaigner.

Davis Cup...seriously. As much as people pretend to care about it every year, the only things that matter are the majors, that is it. He has to improve his consistency year long, but he is young. He is ranked around 30, should aim to be ranked 12-18 at the end of this year. He is still 2 years away, but his scope is the biggest out of any player we have had in a LONG time.

Exactly, that's all I have to say about Stosur plus mentally she's so weak.

If he lost that 5 setter to Del Bonis at the AO last year he would be heading into this year's AO ranked 44. Breaking into the Top 20 at the end of the year is a much bigger step for him than a lot of people realise.

Great post.

Have watched very little tennis since about 2012, but FFS, Stosur beat Williams, comfortably in straight sets at her home GS. It wouldn't matter if she lost every other match after that. Some of you people are massive simpletons.

How long will this thunderstorm last in Sydney?

I have watched stosur closely for many years now, ever since she made the final of the Sydney tournament many years ago. Really paid attention when she had her first great run in Paris and made the semis.

I have enjoyed watching her play, but must admit in the past 2 years it has been difficult to follow her as her forehand has dropped off and her movement has declined.

But she has held Australian tennis up over the last 10 years and has performed at a very high level at the French open and the us open.

And comes across as one of the most likeable players on the women's tour.
