Did we do trading/FA summary threads this year or nah?
Nah, nothing's happened yet.

Steele looks very likely to be ours. Longer probs gone.

Sketchy at best links to Hartlett and Rockliff.

Dempster and Fisher's futures are uncertain on the clubs doing, most reading between the lines and thinking we've got something cooking for a KPD. ITK's have hinted at it too, but we have no idea who.

Apart from that, everything else is speculative.

If this was said in this summary we'd have no reason to be on thread 3 but we are and it's great!

Free agency starts tomorrow right?

When can first trades happen?

Tom Browne reporting Steele to St Kilda is essentially a done deal. He had the inside running on the Carlisle negotiations last year too.

Also mentions WHE to Collingwood on "big money", Pies spending up big on very avg middle of the road players.
WHE- He's one I'm very glad we're not into. Talented, yep; but could be a big mistake. They set themselves up beautiful illy the Pies, but have made some mistakes on either recruiting and development, as well as a fair bit of bad luck with injury.

What's the view on the pick they get for Cloke?

I reckon GC give up one of their picks in the 20s, say 24 or 27 for Jong. Bulldogs give that to the pies for choke and maybe a 3rd back

Edit- HS saying pies will accept a 4th rounder for Cloke. So there you go

Cheers, I appreciate it.

Glad to hear we're potentially reeling in a KPD, but Dempster's one I wouldn't want to be uncertain on. I'd make room for him in our backline, regardless.

This year the first time I reckoned he looked old rather than himself. Same with fisher. Reactions seemed off for mine and slow. Both look done but I'd take dempster over fisher if push came to shove

While I get the people who are saying not to simply copy the dogs, but you've got to think that increasing our midfield rotations is going to be essential to richos plans.

if we got all of Steele, Stevens and Hartlett for Longer and all our 16 and 17 picks of value bar 1st rounders each year.......then when the time comes replace joey and roo with quality fa mids we'd be there wouldn't we?

Take veteran fa key defenders until a project or Goddard come good. Nothing else is lacking.

hate to break it to you but hartlett can't play midfield time anymore, games past his softness

No. No way.

No to trading Billings as well.

I'd love to get Fyfe, but not if we trade either of those two lads.
It's confusing, he has so much talent, but in saying that Fyfe is already such a player.
Great to see Fyfe at Seaford next year, good luck to Jack in his future endeavours

+1 here. seems like a massive waste of coin

i'd love one person to explain, if hartlett is so good why are port considering trading a contracted player?
I'm one hundred percent with you on not wanting him but apparently they need to clear cap space and rebuild a bit after not making finals again, they see him as giving cap relief and being their most tradable and valuable commodity. Much like some have been suggesting Armo might be good to trade out despite him still being a good player. He looked like he'd be another superstar early career but he just never quite took it to a new level.

Richo knows best on this one having worked with him.

If we are interested he's got to think he can get him back to his best. At his best he's what we need and would come relatively cheaply salary aside.

Also why all the secrecy ?
I don't know for sure that's what he was alluding too but makes sense why he wasn't head first at every contest late season. Stringer has needed shoulder surgery for the last month or so and has been blamed for his form drop. Billings is currently overseas with Sincs, Bruce, Paddy, Skunk, Newnes etc. I reckon if he has had the shoulder done and needs it it will get done as soon as he's home.

I don't think Port are seeing him as a cheap, they will want to get a late first rounder minimum. I'm imagining they would like our pick 10 and give back a second or something. To me he's worth about pick 18 to 25 due to his best footy being very good but the Freeman trade took our second rounder for this year. My guess is a straight swap for Billy longer would get it done.

Was thinking a swap for longer as well.

No way anyone gives a 2nd rounder for Cloke... only people who think that are on the Collingwood board..

4th rounder is all...

I think you have to put this in context -
1/ Port have had 3 under performing seasons in a row after looking like world beaters
2/ Hinkley's job is well and truely on the block
3/ Hartlett had an ordinary season for the first time and had just signed a big contract extension on good coin
4/ Port are going to swing the axe big time (they have to be seen to be doing something and fast) - they will want to go after picks and players to turn it around
5/ Someone at Port needs to be the scapegoat and a player that hasn't hit the heights needs to be made an example of
