I think the draft was worked, but then they ruin it by adding in academies, priority picks that promoted tanking, cola, GWS and CG destroyed it for a 4 years, the NRL has a very different structure below the top rung, where as the AFL has destroyed/destroying all the t2 leagues across the country. U18 to AFL is our system.
Spot on. The afl come up with ways to equalise the comp, and then dream up myriad ways in which to get around it. How ******* thick is that?

So what you're trying to say is your round one 2017 lineup is?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA... Adding in Steele and Corr?

SENIORS:

FB: Geary - Corr* - Roberton
HB: Savage - Carlisle - Montagna
RK: Hickey - Steven - Armitage
CR: Newnes - Ross - Acres
HF: Weller - McCartin - Riewoldt
FF: Membrey - Bruce - Gresham
IC: Billings Steele* Gilbert Webster

Em: McKenzie Sinclair Wright

TWOS:

FB: Rice - Coughlan - [Baker-Thomas]
HB: White - Lee - McKenzie
RK: Longer - Sinclair - Minchington
CR: Templeton - O'Kearney -Murdoch
HF: Freeman - Shenton - Wright
FF: Lonie - Pierce - Holmes
IC: [Connellan] [Joyce]

Dunstan (shoulder), Goddard (Achilles) not considered until we know more, and the assumption is that both Dempster and Fisher are gone with the addition of Corr (although one could stay).

I know you missed these joop. You flog. :D

Surely Wrighty gets a gig as defensive forward. Becoming my fav player.

Would we try Billings in Joeys position next year seems well suited to running around on his own off half back.

Good team though.

vs Rnd 23 team
B: S. Dempster, S. Fisher, J. Geary
HB: D. Roberton, S. Gilbert, B. White
C: L. Montagna, D. Armitage, J. Newnes
HF: M. Weller, N. Riewoldt, N. Wright
F: T. Membrey, J. Bruce, J. Billings
R: J. Holmes, S. Ross, J. Steven
Interchange: S. Savage, B. Acres, J. Lonie, D. McKenzie
Emergencies: J. Gresham, J. Sinclair, L. Pierce

No Gresham, McCartin, Hickey.

Damn hard to pick a best 22, some players can be changed depending on structure/needs.

think a Webster/Mckenzie needs to go on the HBF, but who comes out, tough one

Still missing some linebreaking speed, and Wright potentially gets in on the bench.

As for Billings as a defender, no thanks, not for me.

I think you are correct with regards to the salary cap, because I believe at present, we still rely on Roo, and Joey, and maybe the doggies are lucky in respect that they won a premiership, before some of their players come looking for a pay increase as their stocks rise.

At the moment their team is fairly even, no real super star, but as you said that will change.

If we spend too much on 1 player now, what will happen?we could start a chain reaction, I wouldn't be surprised if that happens at the doggies due to Boyd.

I reckon players don't care what others are on, well most players. When Boyd kicked his first goal on Saturday the players seemed more happy than nearly any other goal kicked during the game. We need to get the best available players that we can get no matter what we pay them.

We need to go all out for a match winning midfielder, look at the top 5 sides WB Bont,Libba: Syd Kennedy,Hannebury:Haw Mitchell,Lewis,Geel Selwood,Danger:Giants Ward,Shiel all match winners & can turn a game when need to & pull you over the line,I don't believe we have a player of that caliber at the saints.
I would argue Steven is of that calibre, but I absolutely agree with your premise. We are 2-3 gun mids short of being serious challengers.

This is Brendan Schwab's point - that if you have a salary cap, a drafting system is pretty much irrelevant. I think that's particularly the case if you also have a cap on footy department spending, meaning rich clubs can't dominate the talent identification space. It's a pretty strong argument, I think.

The reason we'll always have a draft is that it gives the AFL six extra weeks dominating the sports pages. And we, the fans, love it.

Like it a lot. Hard to argue with any of those. Reckon McKenzie can hold a best 22 spot next year, hard to see who he replaces though. Hopefully Gilbo.

Not sure what to think about Corr, but being quick enough to run the 20m sprint in 2.89sec (elite for his size for sure) is a very appealing attribute, especially as Carlisle and Hugh aren't quick. His leap and quality kicking are also appealing.
And has very good skills. Exactly the type of player Richo likes in the backline.
