So, how do we get Hartlett and Steele for pick 10?

Steele and pick 16 for 10? - Probably have to give up our third as well to get that deal done.

Port don't have a second round pick to give back to us for pick 10, that would have come close.

Maybe we can get a pick upgrade (if the rumours that Eli is rated a bit higher externally than we think are correct)

Eli Templeton & Pick 46 to Brisbane for pick 28

Flick 28 to the Plastics for the man of Steele

And then work Billy into a deal to get HH to us (maybe involving our 2017 2nd rounder)

Collingwood didn't offer him a contract so they wont get a lot.
I didn´t think he was too bad. Looks like an absolute psycho with a head not even his mother would love but he´s free to a good home.
Geez couldn´t do worse than a rookie spot perhaps.

What's his value though? Is he still worth more to the Hawks despite their depth in that field?
The only way he goes imo is as a set of reluctant steak knives.

Not sure why I really give a toss as he's not someone I particularly rate.
I have no idea what he is worth. He´s a fringe player at the moment but if there was an exchange of picks in our favor with Longer in the trade and I mean a pretty decent pick exchange that could be used to snare one of Steele / Harlett then why wouldn´t we look at it ? I think he´s a player that could possibly do alot better without having to look over his shoulder. I´m not even saying automatic best 22 with us. For that matter neither is Longer at present.

Would rather make Mitchell a offer to good to refuse than spend big money on HH.
And would still rather Rockliff before HH just my opinion

G-Day campaigners,

Haven't been on here for a while due to work and reading the last 50 or so pages has killed me!

Anyways re Steele, I think that injury that he sustained was a blessing if he does nominate a club. The reason I say this is because he would not be as emotionally invested as the guys that played most of the year and ended up being knocked out of the prelims. I was certain that Lobb was off to W.A. and to my surprise decided to stick it out with his team mates. I think Steele would have been saying the same thing imo.

It also, hopefully, allows us to get him at a mildly discounted price.

If Port's salary cap situation is as dire as its made out to be, and they're forcing Hartlett out, then this could be a serious bargain opportunity here. At first, I was against trading for Hartlett and others, e.g Rockliff, because they would seemingly cost a first round pick at a minimum, and they're starting to get on in age so will be slowly declining after only 2-3 peak years with the Saints. In addition, pick 10 would be much more appropriately used to capitalise on the imminently closing window to recruit elite GWS talent on the cheap, due to being stuck in the NEAFL. But if Hartlett can be acquired at a minimal trade cost, due to the price of his contract, then the Saints could be onto some kind of ripper trade period:
  • Trade pick 10 to GWS for a bundle of players => Inside mid (Steele) + Outside mid (Pickett/Ahern) + Defender (Corr)???? Would need extra thrown in.
  • Trade a senior player to the GC, since they're desperate for experience and have far too many high end draft picks
  • Apparently Eli will reap a quality pick??? Or maybe trade Eli for Gardiner at Brisbane if he wants to leave??
  • Trade either the GC pick or Eli pick to Port for Hartlett, and front-load his contract using all of the available cap space so that he is on minimal pay from 2018 and beyond
  • Take what is left to the draft
Then, in the 2017 trade/FA period, St Kilda will have plenty of room in the cap to still get a Free Agent, since Hartlett's exorbitant salary would've been taken care of in 2017, and can trade back into the first round (if it was traded this year to get deals done) by offloading one of Hickey or Longer. Otherwise, there may still be hope yet that Hickey and Longer can work together.

The question I'd prefer to have an answer for is how do we get Harlett and Steele and keep pick 10......but maybe I'm greedy
