i dont think thats harsh on luke, its the reality of the situation!!!

i dont think its a case of luke not being about to play another position as he played HBF for the best u18 side in his year. he has also shown he can play the armo type role resting fwd. the only shock when we picked him up for those who only watched the state champs was that he was thrown into the middle straight away when we picked him up. the reason why luke has a very low TOG% is because he just doesnt have the tank to play any longer.

lets be honest here, if luke does not improve that tank and cannot lift his time on ground then he's quickly going to find other players go past him. if luke wants a long AFL career he'd be wanting to improve that tank ASAP
I reckon he's going to come into 2017 with a much improved tank- similar to Membrey hurting his shoulder and focusing on running for extensive periods last pre-season, Dunstan will have to do the same and he'll greatly benefit from that. Had some huge quarters this year, just a matter of getting 20-25 touches most weeks rather than 15-20.

He's a different player to Dunstan. As I've said a few times, he's a similar player to Acres, with similar stats and similarly having to play out of position. Imagine how outraged we'd be if Acres wanted to go to WC and they offered us pick 45!?
I was obviously a bit bored and watch a whole lot of NEAFL games to see him on YouTube. He's a very good player at that level but he's not exciting like Blake. He's more meat and potatoes than Acres possibly more consistent though. He should be a good player but he's not as exciting as some are making out. I'm not trying to be a downer but I think he should be seen as a project not a ready made gun or we will have a scape goat on our hands when he doesn't play like Ablett from day one.

He's unfortunately slower when chasing opponents than when the ball is on offer, also. It needs to be the other way around.

I know that sounds harsh, and it's an easy comment to make from the stands. But he can look to be running hard to be an option, but then looks absolutely exhausted and out on his feet with wobbly legs while chasing opponents. A game built on pressure needs only one weak link to fall apart. Even one poor effort in he front half can lead to overlap and a goal at the other end.

A lot of this is about fitness, and he hasn't had a clean run at it. I hope it's not attitude, but there's no point speculating as that's something we really don't know.

His strengths are amazing, though. A great kick, left foot and right. Good overhead (although we need to see more of it). And very very clever.

I have no doubt that Billings will be a very very good player once he builds the fitness to work harder (particularly defensively). Star potential, if we give the kid some time!
We used to vilify Ross for the same lack of pace, but not anymore. I think Billings will come good, he just hasn't come on as quickly and as completely as we would have liked. But I am very confident that JB will work hard, like Seb did, and that he will play a key role in our next GF.

Really hope we're campaigners and get him for #46.

Let's be honest, GWS don't exactly need more decent picks.
Except once again we've shown interest too early, gone public and are now pressured into taking him, whatever the deal. Imagine the melt here and media reaction if we try to play hardball and lose.

Very hard not to go public when the bloke nominates you lol.

I don't think it's that serious. We'all try to be campaigners and say #46.

GWS will either say alright you pricks take him or too naff off and we get him for 2017 second rounder.

Either of those is still a win for us

We'll be fine. Just remember the Bruce trade:

Western Sydney wanted 24 for him, we wanted to give 41. We traded 24 to Hawthorn, they changed their request to 25 (Dal compensation pick). There was debate, discussion, arguments and posturing for almost the whole trade period.

Final day of trading, they came to us agreeing to take 41 to get the deal done and since he was out of contract. Too late, it had already been shipped off to Brissie with 25 for Longer. They had to take 48 which we got back in the Longer deal and they never ended up using.

We stuck to our guns and got the deal done. It's trickier now with future trading, gives them more options to demand but at least this time we're not dealing with Dodo Brain whinging to the media every five minutes.

Trade Whisperer now claims that his sources are telling him that Travis Close may seek to leave the pies and that he is looking to join the Bulldogs #breakingnews #whispers
Aha! So the trade whisperer's secret identity had now been revealed to be...

After their tough love with Freo last year going so wrong I suspect GWS will talk hard but do not want another McCarthy type dead end this year.

Looking at the Steele highlights (yes I realised they are the glamour shots) I liked the fact he could both push or weave through traffic and also that he could deliver the ball to a forward or through the goals so beautifully. Being a contested beast and a beautiful attacking player by foot would see him come straight into the best 22.

A tough problem is we probably have about 28 pushing for the 22 which is lovely to see and was not even the case in 1997 or around 2009.

They and gold coast will continue to be the golden goose losing players every year.

It's best we keep things amicable with them.

If future 2nd is fine by them... It's fine by us.
