Sidebottom will be past his peak by the time we're REALLY competitive. (which will be more like 2019-2020 i think).

I'm glad we're sniffing around young guns like jaeger and gws kelly- but in reality we'd need to spend a lot in terms of picks and trades to make it a reality. Makes it a robbing peter to pay paul scenario.

Best bet is hold off another year or two, then dive into free agency 2017-2018.

Jaegar is an absolute superstar, he would be worth two first rounders if you could nab him

I'd like an OOC free agent though that we can get for nothing, considering the blokes we have lost through it, it'd be nice to pick one up

Didn't see this thread, I voted for everyone on the list plus the other option.

JoM is the go to, Ollie Wines would be a nice get

I am not keen on Rusty Arse, think he is overrated.

Rich could complement our midfield.

Is there one huge FA we could target?

word is rich will be back here with WCE or Freo

i'm a massive fan of rich as he's a subi boy, still remember his WAFL GF against swannies. kid has really good character and is very loyal, still checks in on subi.. having said that i wouldn't go near him if i was the saints.

i think he's hit his ceiling and is now being used a bit across half back, i think he will probably shift back to the back pocket which is a bit out of place for him. i think there are better inside mids than rich now

Wines is the type of bloke you let write his own cheque... he's that inside mid you build a side around. heart and soul type. would be interesting to see his stats compared to:
- dunstan
- ross
- weller
- armitage

bit hard to compare him to sinclair right now, due to playing diff position but sinclair is one i can see moving into a mitchell inside type role

+1.

Richo working at Port in 2013 when Ollie was drafted will help & let's not forget the nice words Ollie's parents had to say about Trout.

one thing i am concerned about is the lack of height in our midfield, it would be nice to have some like a cripps or mayne, just that massive bull type player at the clearances that will win them over and over again

relatively happy with the speed side of things now with steven, freeman, gresh, mckenzie etc.

i'm hoping we see mckenzie start on the wing a lot more now. he's just a natural winger and so good overhead, which is another concern i have

we have some blokes who just arent the greatest in a contested marking sense. i'm hoping mckenzie is our version of a yeo/fyfe in that regard

Sidebottom would bring our prime forward don't worry about that. If our recruiting is as good as we think it's been then next year should be the last year of a top 5 pick or thereabouts, so we wouldn't really be missing out on much by going after FA's next year.

I don't know what it is about him but I'm a bit meh on sidebum too.

I mean, I know he's a very very good player, kicks goals, impacts on the mid etc and I should be all over him like a rash; but there's just something I can't put my finger on that makes me prefer at least 3 or 4 others ahead of him.

Wines
JOM
Prestia
Rich

Rich is 8 months older than Sidebum, ruling him out based on age should see Rich rubbed out too.

A fit O'Meara would be my pick of the litter. Wines would be a fabulous get, just would worry about balance, would probably see one of Dunstan and Ross squeezed out. Prestia would just add to our short arses, so would prefer one of the others.

Big Big advantage of Iron Buttcheek is the FA aspect. If we could add some red to the black and white jersey, he'd cost us nothing but cap space, wheareas all the others (bar Rich) will probably cost us a pair of first rounders, and a sweetener, with a 2nd rounder thrown back.

Acres is a very nice mark .

Personally I hope they go after a GWS player every year for next 3 years.

Whitfield / Steele next year both out contract
Would love a fit JOM and offer the following years first rounder to get him if we can .

The following year after would chase Sheil

Get Steele, this is a no brainer. He adds so much polished especially in that 70-50 m from goal area where we seemed to fall apart far too often in 2015.

If JOM is fit then trade two first rounders for him, if not pass. I'm not overly concerned about the others.

If JOM isn't an option I'd like to see us follow Melbournes lead and trade our 2017 1St for a 2016 1St and try and get our third round pick into the top 25 for one last big go at the draft before we head back into finals contention.

I understand your point that we have a smaller midfield, but generally the taller or bigger you are the slower you are.
I don't know the answer to this but whats better a Big bodied power midfield like Swans kennedy, hannerbrey, parker or a running midfield like hawks with likes of cyril, hill, hartung, smith.

You obviously need a balance and we really only have two mids over 185cm in Ross (187cm) and Acres (190cm) so I reckon one more big body taller inside mid like Wines would be enough.

Remember that a positive to having a smaller midfield will attract plenty of free kicks but they can get bumped off the ball easy.
But having the right balance is essential, so I reckon one more 186-190cm mid would be the right balance.
