Unfortunately we really dont have the bargaining power for the players we are considering.

Who do we have of worth that a GWS would be willing to trade for. Dont think they have anything they want or need.
gws would have only have about 5 guys under 25 who wouldn't be worth some type of 1st round value :cry::cry::cry:

not really intrigued but the likes of buntine, downie, zac williams would be redundant in this team.

the only one who has some type of uniqueness that would be second round value would be corr, but he seems to love GWS and is signed until 2018 off memory but an improving march bank and academy kids could push him in the redundant category for GWS. however he would most likely be bundled with 1 or 2 other players to form first round value IMO

Something like 20 first rounders on their list.

It is a travesty. Nobody gives a shit about AFL in Western Sydney but the AFL just gifts them all the potential stars.

i like that they did this, only way to succeed for them long term is to hit the ground running. they couldn't of done what they did to freo to GWS wouldn't have worked and they learnt from their lessons. i think the academies are both the solution and the problem to now GWS going forward. its good because player retention will be high but bad because their going to have a GOAT side based off where everyone was taken.

They should've had one of the franchises in tassie

No money and no extra TV money and no extra players to the AFL. If it even slightly works in WS it will be great for all clubs as there will be more money in the system but more importantly more players for every club to choose from and the you wont have to worry about all your shite players.

They packaged up a whole lot for SOS last year including Lauchie Plowman who was a top 5 pick from memory. The academy bidding is set to reap them big time players for loose change for a long time.

which again ha the positives and negatives.

means their going to have player retention of "locals" (ill use that term loosely since their academy is weird) and keeping kids in AFL instead o code swapping for kids in their teens
bad because their going to be a powerhouse for a long time
also good because the more they get in the more current players that'll have to go

This is what I was looking for
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...e/news-story/b17bf1ebc8bce026f2d7f1cbb12fc0d6

I haven't updated the OP in a while but if the AFLPA get their way later this year by reducing the amount of years required to become a free agent from 8 to 6 then these then the Gold Coast and GWS stand to lose the most out of the situation:

Gold Coast
Jarrod Harbrow - Restricted (7 years)
Brandon Matera - Restricted (7 years)
Steven May - Restricted (7 years)
Trent McKenzie - Restricted (7 years)
Michael Rischitelli - Restricted (7 years)
Henry Schade - Restricted (6 years)
Matt Shaw - Restricted (7 years)
Davis Swallow - Restricted (7 years)

Greater Western Sydney
Stephen Coniglio - Restricted (6 years)
Will Hoskin-Elliott - Restricted (6 years)
Adam Kennedy - Restricted (6 years)
Rhys Palmer - Restricted (6 years)
Jonathan Patton - Restricted (6 years)
Tom Scully - Restricted (6 years)
Dylan Shiel - Restricted (6 years)
Devon Smith - Restricted (6 years)

The AFL may turn down the idea just purely based on the potential damage it could do to the new expansion clubs.

Wow and wow. For all the hypotheticals we throw around, this one has serious potential. Could this be the game changer?

While I am not sure I like the idea at all (call me old fashioned but I do respect one club players more), maybe this levels the playing field from all the concessions the expansion clubs got.

Means we get a free swing at Sheil, McKenzie, Matera, WHE and Swallow while retaining our precious first rounders.

With the big 4 Vic clubs struggling, and us on the rise with a ton of free cap space ...

Wayne Hughes, Jamie Cox, Ameet Bains come on down

The only hope we'd have is to use our extra salary cap to take an OOC via the PSD, which virtually never happens anyway.

Tomlinson squeezed out again this week, surely will be on the radar. I think would be a great 3rd tall defender. Always does a good job on rooey. Has great endurance and neat skills
