Seattle mariners. Boston Red Sox.
After watching tonight's game I can safely say the only people to target from this one was the umpires... Wish we got gifted those red time frees that somehow get Hawks over the line!!! More lucky than good this year... Cyril's a flog, Sicily a flog, shiels, a flog, gunston flog... All a of them!!

I genuinely think there might be a conspiracy to get Hawks to finish top 4 because there is no other good Victorian teams pressing and the AFL like it better when a Victorian team makes the GF...

With selection pressure building, you'd think at season's end, we'd only be chasing FAs and drafting quality (not quantity) players.

A little different to previous seasons with huge personnel changeovers and late draft/rookie gem hunting- which has been really successful- but looks like we'll be entering a new phase (a good thing).

Now, is it time to start bundling lower picks with decent "surplus" players and build up to a quality return? Give something, to get something.

E.g. 3rd Round pick + current player (ruckman??) or fringe for a 1st round pick.

Do we now have the cattle that other teams envy and want? Like how we all want GWS' talent, do other teams now look at ours? And should we bundle future low picks with these type of players for a "quality player/pick" return? Whilst pursuing FAs on the side.

I don't think we need to draft/rookie 6 players anymore, Give me 3 great ones and FAs on the side.

The free agents are disgusting this year. Have a look at who's available & tell me which players you'd take.

Another year of canny drafting & trading is the way to go

Team development level is looking good
I wouldn't be throwing money at GOPs
Our recruiting has taken a spike in the right direction and I really like the emphasis on team standards to get in
I just wish people would stop demanding their favourite player be put in because they with all their years of coaching experience now what needs to be done

Keep it simple & draft / trade to improve the list. Hopefully our best 21 / 22 players are pushed out of the team by better players we bring into the club. It's all about improving, as we see with Hawthorn, despite winning flags they continue to attempt to improve their best 22. It's important not to neglect any elements of bringing players in (trade, FA, draft).

Oh agreed, not keen on any (bar potential Essendope walkers) but I'm talking from now onwards- quality not quantity approach I'm hoping for. Turn Round 3 picks into 2s, 2s into 1s when possible- would need some tough list calls though

Dumb question...

I know this is a wish list of elite players, but would the club be better served by looking at players who are off the radar, would be easier to trade in and cost less?

My logic is that just about every other club would be all over the best available FA's and thus drive their prices higher. Whilst happy to get Carlisle because of list needs, I have never been real comfortable to throw the $$$ at player like Treloar, Boyd or even Dangerfield to be honest.

That's why I want Rory Atkins. Ceiling is very high & he fills a position of need - wingman, fast, good endurance, very good skills & tough. Let's face it, if we had a kid who was 21 yrs old & played only 12 games, and he had a game like last nights, we'd all be wetting our pants with excitement

Trust me R Atkins is highly rated in Adelaide and the kid is a real local product that has been nurtured through the system. Unlikely to move, sorry rors
Local product?

You do know he's from Victoria (Calder Cannons)?

You're mistaking Atkins (Victorian) for Rory Laird (South Australian)
