Brett Anderson this arvo on SEN, talks about jaeger, thinks we are the ones who are really into him. If we don't have to give up our first pick this year then i say we just go for it

Exactly.
Problem with nuffies like David King is rhey think we swapped 5 for Carlisle and Gresham just materialised out of nowhere.

The trade was so agonising and drawn out because we wouldn't cave to the demand of 5 for Carlisle, the exact opposite what patty_vanda posted and used to pot the club.

On SEN draft night, their TAC special comments guy said Gresham was only behind Parish in the draft for a mid.
Considering Parish was gone he said we had done well in getting Gresham.

But hey facts dont cut it when you want to make up complete bullshit just so you can disparage the club and Bains.

You cant stop stupid though.
The fact of the matter is if we could have secured jake without giving up pick 5 we would have done that trade every day of the week. In fact that was always plan A. Dodoro twisted our arm and would not accept anything less so it was then up to our guys to come up with the best possible deal to satisfy the Essendon football club. It was then publicised on other forums & even on the news to an extent that our guys caved to Dodoro's demands once he basically threatened to trade Carlisle to Hawthorn. I love this club & have supported st.kilda for 26 years. This is a forum & everyone is entitled to an opinion.
I come on this forum & read your crap you write weekly. You've just about pot shotted every saints or non saints member at one point or another.

I think us, like every club, is just waiting for him to play some footy. How can anybody make a call on him now. Who knows what will happen in next four months.
I think it's just a wait and see.
I'm still hearing Hawks are keen but then today they say the salary cap is full. Who knows what's going on down there.
Agree think club will wait & see this year.

If he goes ok and nominates only Stkilda , Gold Coast will do a deal they will need points 2017 - 2018
for academy kids, so likely Stkilda might give pick for following year as GC just need the points.

He is not fully quoted FFS.
Trade radio numerous times said no straight swap for pick 5 as they wanted a first rounder in the draft.

Your initial post was complete bullshit and so is your second hand quote above.

Get your facts righr before you pot the club or you will be seen as a fool.

Probably too late already.
I thought they certainly suggested the pick 5 was untouchable and was disappointed we played it out in the media then lost face. I'm not unhappy with Gresham but I thought it was handled a bit amateurishly. If Gresham turns out to be a star and carlisle ends up playing half decent footy it's a win for us. If Gresh is a spud and carlisle busts then we are going to look back on it all with all the Andrew Lovett hindsight we can muster. It was a high risk trade and so far has been a **** up due to carlisles dumb arseness and the Bombers penalties. If Francis ends up a super star we will be double ****** off. It's a tough gig being a list manager.

I'm not sure if I'm a good ally -I think I'm a bit prone to pissing people off but it didn't seem an unreasonable opinion, I don't get why everyone got so upset. It will be a few years until we can make any real judgement on it anyway.

I don't really see how you can say the trade has been a f*** up. On paper it was Jake Carlisle and Jade Gresham for Aaron Francis and Alex Morgan, I know which two I'd rather have.

Gresham has played 6 games so far and looked good in recent weeks while Francis and Morgan haven't played any, Francis has had injuries and no idea about Morgan. Also we could very well have taken Gresham at pick 6 had we kept it anyway, given he was the best mid available after Parish went off the board. The non academy players taken between Francis at 6 and Gresham at 18 were Ah Chee (flanker), Weideman (KPP), McKay (KPP), Milera (flanker), Curnow (forward), Rioli (small forward) and Doedee (defender). So in other words we used our 1st and 2nd round picks to get the star player we wanted in a trade and the player we potentially wanted with our first rounder at a lower pick, pretty good business if you ask me. I'm starting to get more and more confident that Gresh will be a gun.

As for Carlisle, while there was always a chance those guys could be suspended most people were shocked when it actually happened. That's out of our hands anyway, he's serving his suspension and has had surgery that he needed anyway to get his body right for 2017 onwards. And the snapchat scandal just made him personally look like an idiot, nothing bad on us despite the media doing their best to make you believe it was.

Youre still being disingenuous to how things actually went down. Had Sydney not come to the table and provided pick 13 to be included in the trade then the trade would not have gone through and Carlisle would have had to go through the PSD.

You also forget Bains made a counter offer in the days before of Carlisle and two second rounders for out first and third/fourth round picks.
http://www.theage.com.au/afl/tradin...-second-round-picks-back-20151016-gkb84v.html

So its not like there was no back and forth throughout the trade period.

Definitely entitled to your opinion mate, as we all are on here.

My question to you is who you think the club would have picked up at 5? The two best mids were taken by then and the drop of quality was pretty big after that. Francis went at that pick when mid size defender wasn't what we were looking for. By the sounds of it Gresham was on our radar with that pick anyway.

A quality key back and a promising midfielder was a huge win for us IMO. Sure the trade was messy but we ended up right on top.

If the text perse saw was accurate then there were 6 others before Gresh on our list.

For mine Milera will be a beauty & the best outside of Weitering & Hopper. Reminds me of Shaun Burgoyne. Happy with Gresh tho.

My gripes with the Ess deal are:
1. We gave up our 2nd rounder. 5 & 3rd round for Carlisle & 14 coming in would've been fair
2. Carlisle suspended for 12 months

Dodoro played dirty & got a ripper deal for a bloke that had caused dramas internally then externally, didn't want to be there & got suspended for 12 months. glory be he's a prick.

I want to see him get on the park before making any assumptions.

Personally, I don't want him. I'd rather go to the draft or trade for a gun with no injury concerns
This. We've already taken a risk with Freeman who hasnt played a game yet. Not willing to also do it with JOM who in all likelihood will cost us a lot more.

You are entitled to your opinion but not your own fact.
You built a straw man so you could deride the club.

Bains always stated 5 on its own was not on the table.
We got what Bains wanted, a firdt rounder back. Websites and un corroborated "news services" doesnt change that fact.

Anyway doesnt matter what you have written above, that is not the argument. You stated things that was totally at odds with what happened.

So you have followed the club for 26 years, congratulations. You could have followed them for 60 years, still doesnt give you the right to pot the club using ignorance for you reasons.

I suggest you take your own advice and pull your own head in and dont make up bullshit. Furthermore dont cry when your bullshit is challenged by the facts

Is it true if you take away the a academy kids you could throw a blanket over the rest from pick 3 to 20 in this year's draft?

If that's the case I'd certainly look at trading this years 1st.

2nd Rounder and a fringe for JOM or tough.

We can't continue to mortgage our future on speculative "if they get their body right" investments. Collingwood got Treloar that's the type of trades I'd want us dropping firsts on. We can't afford to spend our first this year considering its a mid heavy draft unless we're getting a player like Kelly or Shiel (example)

Id rather go for a safe bet this year, we took a punt on Freeman last year and will most likely pay off. Omera never gets on the park and Id rather go for a sure thing this time around.
Omera gets on the park a hell of a lot more than Freeman. Still think he's worth a shot and the draft is a hell of a long way from being the 'safe bet'

There is a concept in finance called risk adjusted return; really basic, you calibrate the risk + price you are willing to take on against the potential returns.

And you balance that across a portfolio to work towards the result you are after.

Freeman and JOM are like speculative mining stocks, big risks with high potential rewards.

If the price meets the risk adjusted return goals and the potential loss is covered somewhere else then we should go for them (freeman done, JOM a maybe).

A draft pick has a different set of risk adjusted returns, so the list managers will just have to weigh up what the price is at which below JOM is the better bet or a draft pick is a better bet.

Personally I think the risk is too high with JOM unless the price is a pick around 15+

I have supported the Saints for 46 years godammit... so everyone pull their heads in!

speaking of which, I actually tried to do that yesterday.

You can technically push your head down, or attempt to contract your spine in effect sucking your head down. Both were unsuccessful as you can imagine.

Unfortunately, the best I could was stick it out the car window whilst driving. Some truckie yelled out "Oi pull yer effing head in" and I did.

At first first I thought the myth was busted, but technically it is plausible.

You're entitled to that opinion. I thought it was a negative press we got from his snap chat stuff up and was a publicity disaster -at least it was brief due to him getting suspended though.

Gresham looks good but as i said it will be 4 years until it's even possible to decide who wins unless Carlisle doesn't play a game or some other unforeseen thing happens. All I'm doing is sticking up for a perfectly reasonable opinion from a poster who was shouted down because he wasn't being enough of a cheer leader for the clubs decisions. Last time I looked we had 160 years with one cup, that should mean we are fairly sceptical about how good the decision makers at our club are- not a personality cult that shuts down anything that resembles an alternative opinion.
