Depth? Why would be be after depth players? Honestly, why? This is what I don't understand with all the Lin Jong talk.
We need to go to the draft or trade for elite talent.
So, this offseason: (hypothetically of course)
Sam Fisher retires, we add Jake Carlisle for free
Delist Tom Curren, add Jack Steele (trade)
Delist Luke Delaney, add Michael Hurley (trade)
Delist Cam Shenton, add Will Hoskin-Elliott (trade)
Delist or trade Murdoch, add draft pick
Delist Tom Lee, add draft pick
Upgrade Coughlan or O'Kearney
Our 2017 team, excluding the over 30s, ends up looking like this:
B: Geary Carlisle Webster
HB: Roberton Hurley Savage
C: Newnes Steele Billings
HF: Weller Bruce Acres
F: Gresham McCartin Membrey
Foll: Hickey Steven Ross
Bench: Armitage, Dunstan, Hoskin-Elliott, McKenzie
That team excludes veterans:
Riewoldt
Montagna
Dempster
Gilbert
Then there's the young blokes that are missing out that I would consider our very handy depth going forward,
Goddard
Longer
Pierce
Wright
White
Templeton
Sinclair
O'Kearney
Minchington
Lonie
Freeman
Coughlan
Why are people convinced we have no depth? We're still a developing team, yet we're almost good enough for finals this very year. Another 2-3 seasons, more preseasons, more development, some more guns recruits via trade & draft & our list will look ******* great.
We don't need blokes like Lin Jong. It's not a list requirement for where we're heading
(Yes, I will get slammed for suggested Will Hoskin-Elliott is elite... His best is as elite as it comes, kid just needs some continuity & a coach like Richo to really work hard with him to get him back to where he was at the end of 2014)
