Last year I think Gaff and Hannebery were well deserving of their AA honours on the respective wings and then Isaac Smith wouldn't have been far behind and I honestly believe that Joey would have very likely likely been next in line and his numbers reflect that. He had the best numbers after Gaff and Hanners and I think in a better team with a stronger inside brigade he'd have done even better. Would have to give some thought to the next ones in line as not too many are coming straight to mind as being as consistently good/well performed as those 4.
Consistency over the last 5 seasons, it has to be Isaac Smith hands down.
Hannebery (not pure outside imo)
Gaff
Bennell (has the potential to be no 1 by some distance)
Isaac Smith
Stephen Hill
Roughie to rise this season- Aaron Hall
Harry Cunningham is a very low profile player with moderate to high potential.... And has speed too
Would suit our needs & not cost the earth
great responses, so the list is:
Dan Hannebery 181cm 79kg
Andrew Gaff 181cm 84kg
Isaac Smith 188cm 81kg
Harley Bennell 185cm 85kg
Stephen Hill 183cm 82kg
Aaron Hall 185cm 84kg
i'll add in:
Lewis Jetta 181cm 76kg
Brad Hill 181cm 78kg
Daisy Thomas (at his previous best) 185cm 84kg
it seems the majority of these are in the mid 180cm or have absolutely elite running ability (gaff, lewis jetta, brad hill) or have an inside game (hannebery). isaac smith has some serious height which might be the sign of whats to come. none are shorter than 180cm none are lighter than 76kg, majority of which are around the low to mids 80kgs
looking at our list we have the following likely upcoming wingers outside types (I'll throw in jack billings, jack steven and nathan freeman here just to widen the net):
Daniel McKenzie 184cm 78kg
Brandon White 188cm 77kg
Eli Templeton 183cm 73kg
Jade Gresham 177cm 74kg
Jack Billings 184cm 80kg
Nathan Freeman 183cm 83kg
Jack Steven 180cm 79kg
the elite runner of this list would have to be McKenzie who apparently has a good mix of endurance and burst speed. steven, freeman, eli and gresham are known for their burst speed but not really their endurance. the height is a worry for steven and gresham. the weight seems too slight for the majority of our prospects with the only exception being freeman and possibly billings.
the question I have is who do we see the genuine wingers out of this list? i have concerns around how slight eli still is and also the height of steven and gresham to be able to play there. mckenzie and white look to be pick of the bunch with possibly billings who might be more suited to the flank given how deadly he is around that part of the ground. steven and freeman are possibly more suited to the inside center square work given their burst speed?
where do the people who have seen more of gresham than i have, see him playing long term?
the prospective prospects this year are:
Lachie Whitfield 187cm 83kg
Jack Steele 187cm 88kg
Jarrod Garlett 181cm 68kg
Harry Cunningham 181cm 76kg
steele and whitfield look to be the pick of the bunch given our lack of height for our currently listed prospects. how badly do we think we need 1 off this list? or do we think we have the bases covered at the moment for the wing?
