I am out of the loop on this one. But I have heard from others that confidence is rising.

In other news Eli should be a blue Or lion. Lee also has had interest from Brisbane.
Expect a ruck to be traded. One of Billy or Pierce
Murdoch will most likely be delisted. Unless trade time is kind to him.
Interesting that Billy or Pierce are being thrown up and big John Holmes isn't.

Is that more to do with faith in holmsey making it or a reflection of the respective trade values of the 3? I assume it's the latter?

Appreciate the news stav but I seriously doubt pierce or longer are any chance to be delisted. Considering we signed them up about two months ago. Traded, definitely a chance.

Unless you put their two names along with Murdoch's to make it blatantly obvious that brodie is most likely gone. :p
Think thats the case A2R. Longer or Pierce traded.
Look Tigers or Eagles I reckon. Eagles screaming out for a ruckman.

Holmes is perfect back up, not established enough to get upset about not being first choice, good in a pinch, still has potential to improve.
Also Carlisle can go into the ruck in place of Bruce.
More on ground options. Hole-mes as Dee-wayne calls him, is a good backup woth Pierce still developing

I'm really happy for Eli cos I was concerned he'd be delisted & his career ended prematurely
He's a good player and his VFL season will have turned heads. He was playing at half pace and was cleaning up. He is probably never going to be a superstar but could easily be a good midfield rotation...something we never let him be.

No way a direct swap. Longer has more long term value. I'd want a pick coming back our way.
I would take that though, Essendon are **** knuckles and want thirty two first round picks to recruit their boot studder. If we got out of it with out having to fork out we have done well. We are basically moving a player of value out to get a player of value who is more suited to playing every week. I would rate Laverde as a pick at about 18 to 25 based on the fact he isn't an established best 22 in the worst side in the comp so his value is based on his junior form. Longer is a semi developed ruck who will give 10 years of high quality. They probably win the trade on paper but we get it done. If Laverde turns into a gun mid we win.

I reckon both, seriously the amount of shit about Holmes not being good around the ground is embarrassing, not many rucks do heaps and he at least directs his tap work. He'd not be worth much on the trade table but if I was a mid I'd prefer him to Pierce and Longer.

Am I reading correctly? Did Stav say Longer or Pierce will be traded?
I would have thought the most realistic trade would have been pick it 10 to the giants for their 1st and Steele with their 1st going to Essendon for Lavarde. That trade just makes sense.
I think we're still after marchbank so if we get him it's 10 for Both so we need something else to trade for laverde

Would be a bit shattered with Eli. I would understand, so probably talking through my 5 year old and breaking the news to him! I do think he can be a player. Hopefully I can sell it to my boy on the back of it's great for Eli and he'll still be able to watch him play. 10, Eli and Lee for pick 2?

GWS first is pick 8. I assume you mean GWS pick 17 or 18? But agree that would make sense.
Essentially we trade off a pick 10 for a pick 20 and a pick 30. about right.

It was interesting to hear someone mention (many pages back) that Trout might see Laverde playing off half back or through the middle of the ground.

I wonder if the success of Roo playing as a tall wingman this year clunking marks around the ground and floating forward to keep our forwardline dangerous during rotations (bruce to ruck, mccartin/membrey to bench) has made that a position the club wants to keep long term.

Don't know if he is the man for it and I doubt anyone could do the role half as well as Roo but it will be interesting to see if the club tries to build a player up to play that kind of role.

I guess they would have to determine whether he has held his value. Out of contract and has not shown a lot at afl or vfl yet. No doubt talented but was taken at pick 20 which is traditionally seen as a second rounder(prior to compo picks). If you look at trades such as Mc Evoy, Stanley, aish, yarran, then it's hard to see laverde worth high first round. I think Steele is worth more then laverde and people are saying second Rd at best for him. Just my thoughts though. Could be wrong.
Yep, we should have seen the writing on the wall and traded Spence at the height of his 'gonna be anything' as 'looks good' commands a lot more! I still think he hasn't gotten past those concerns some people had from his junior days about lack of big ball winning, transitioning to midfield etc. Probably a nice HFF piece, but turning into a midfielder still remains a risk. I would have thought that he was probably broadly seen as a higher pick than he was taken, but has fallen from that level. So somewhere around where he was originally selected seems about right. 18-20 ish. He's basically an expensive draft pick.
