Late 1st Round pick suggests somewhere between 12-18.....
There's no way a guy who was taken Pick 20, who has shown very little at AFL level, and is out of contract, gets a pick in that bracket.
I'm thinking somewhere closer to the 25-30 bracket is more realistic. Meaning next year's 2nd rounder is in play....
Spot on! I said it yesterday and I will say it again. Second year players who walk do not get 'fair' or 'equal to what you paid' value. What you paid is downgraded. The question is by how much.
Leverde is a 20 year old pick 20, who has played 18 games.
A teens pick / low second rounder would be on the table if he was a top 10 pick. For instance, below is a list of top 10 (ish) players who walked after their second year contract:
Billy Longer was a 20 year old pick 8 who had played 9 games. That cost us 25 and 41 (with 48 coming back).
O' Rourke was pick 3 and got pick 19 (and an downgraded pick in the 40s)
Caddy was a pick 7 who cost a late teens pick
Docherty was 12 and became 33
Freeman was 10 and became (approx.) 28
Aish was pick 7 and got 26 and another late twenties pick
Polec was a pick 5 and got (in a complicated deal) a mid first downgraded to a mid second and change.
But Leverde is not a top 10 pick. Better comparisons are:
Jamie Cripps was a 20 year old pick 24 who had played 16 games. That got us pick 41 & 44 from WCE (but we had to give up pick 46 too).
Tom Lynch was a 20 year old pick 13 who had played 6 games. That got us 37 (Newnes) in a 3 way deal with Adelaide and Richmond.
If Leverde walks and nominates us ... maybe, maybe it is next years second. Or Pierce and a third.
If Methendon want anything more than that we should have them drug tested again!
