Surely Longer is the one player on our list with a high enough currency at the moment that we are quite willing to lose.
Another year in the VFL behind Hickey could see all of that currency vanish.
Pierce is too young and raw to draw too much from other clubs I would think.
Lewie has more potential than Billy to play the ruck/forward (or forward/ruck) role...just needs to add another 5kgs of muscle.

Late 1st Round pick suggests somewhere between 12-18.....

There's no way a guy who was taken Pick 20, who has shown very little at AFL level, and is out of contract, gets a pick in that bracket.

I'm thinking somewhere closer to the 25-30 bracket is more realistic. Meaning next year's 2nd rounder is in play....
Spot on! I said it yesterday and I will say it again. Second year players who walk do not get 'fair' or 'equal to what you paid' value. What you paid is downgraded. The question is by how much.

Leverde is a 20 year old pick 20, who has played 18 games.

A teens pick / low second rounder would be on the table if he was a top 10 pick. For instance, below is a list of top 10 (ish) players who walked after their second year contract:

Billy Longer was a 20 year old pick 8 who had played 9 games. That cost us 25 and 41 (with 48 coming back).
O' Rourke was pick 3 and got pick 19 (and an downgraded pick in the 40s)
Caddy was a pick 7 who cost a late teens pick
Docherty was 12 and became 33
Freeman was 10 and became (approx.) 28
Aish was pick 7 and got 26 and another late twenties pick
Polec was a pick 5 and got (in a complicated deal) a mid first downgraded to a mid second and change.

But Leverde is not a top 10 pick. Better comparisons are:

Jamie Cripps was a 20 year old pick 24 who had played 16 games. That got us pick 41 & 44 from WCE (but we had to give up pick 46 too).
Tom Lynch was a 20 year old pick 13 who had played 6 games. That got us 37 (Newnes) in a 3 way deal with Adelaide and Richmond.

If Leverde walks and nominates us ... maybe, maybe it is next years second. Or Pierce and a third.

If Methendon want anything more than that we should have them drug tested again!

What do you see Pierce and Eli being worth (individually) Stavro?
Honestly I don't think Pierce gets traded. I think it's Longer. I think he will be worth a teens first rounder or a very early second.

Templeton a third or higher.

Lewie definitely has potential, but I reckon he is worth more to us to keep and continue to develop (to play or trade later) than what he would fetch right now.
Also an interesting debate about whether the ruck/forward or the solo ruck is more suited to the modern game, what traits are worth more to clubs looking forward.

Seeing as we're going there:

Jesus and his Apostles walk into a bar.

Jesus says "just 13 glasses if water thanks".

He turns to his disciples and winks.

Or:

Scene at the Last Supper restaurant.

Jesus: Table for 26 please.

Waiter: But there's only 13 of you.

Jesus: That's OK, we're all sitting on the sane side.

I'm a fan of the 2, but for me of we are to trade one of the 2 it has to be Billy. It would at least bring us value whereas Lewie wouldn't get us much at all yet. A mid teens pick would be a nice return indeed.

Would we keep it and have 2 picks in the first round or look to move it on as part of steele and marchy stav?

In all honesty I rank them about the same.
Longer=Early second, but due to effort and time needed by clubs to develop ruckman you need to pay a bit more.
Eli= Been a really good year in VFL and 5th in Liston. Early to mid 3rd rounder

Oh I see you have read Bomberblitz, tell us more about where they intend on playing Billings also
Not a chance I'd read that crap. When I said hearing I mean I was told something, and that something was that Laverde was committed to the bombers, I suppose they potentially might not've told the truth, so I guess we'll see.

One thing is for certain: the club now sees ourselves as a serious player in the trade market.

Historically we never would have had the guts to stand up alongside the big boys and have and voice. Hell, that's why we got so many scraps off the table of the Blues etc back in the day.

Even if we don't land laverde or marchbank etc, I'm loving that we are having and go- and making a bloody attractive proposition at that.

Exciting times to be a sainter!

Li5tle disappointed if eli goes
Played well in the vfl, racked them up...prob did more than lonie and sinclair in the second half of the year disposal wise
Cant believe we would not keep him....thought he might take Joey's spot off a hbf.
Agree with longer....I've always thought he might get the boot
Lee I'm not fussed about.

I agree that the club is doing this (wingman / swingman), but I think the guy to fill this role is Bruce, he has the size and endurance to do it. He has good skills for his size too (his somewhat slippery hands this year notwithstanding).

Carlisle will pinch hit in the ruck next year imo, Bruce was only doing it this year cos we had no other option (and the last couple of games made it pretty clear that Brucey really didn't want to be doing it).
Bruce in a Westhoff role?
