This year's Laverde and Marchbank were O' Rourke and the other guy that a lot of people on here wanted to trade our first pick for two years ago. And now I can't even remember his name...:D
JOR and Jaksche for pick1 was an almighty dream we had.
Yep, that's who I meant. Says something that I couldn't remember their names, I think.

He would improve our team immediately but for some reason he doesn't overly excite me. That's prob me showing my ignorance cos I rarely watch the Lions.
Yeah I think he's underrated in Melbourne, he's not flashy but he gets the job done. He's an absolute work horse that just racks up touches.
I saw his game against Carlton early this year and already rated him but he was Ablett like in that game 48 disposals 8 marks and a goal in the kind of BOG performance that makes you stand up and notice. Watched a couple of other BL games since and he's always a huge accumulator and when people say he doesn't do much damage I disagree, he's a hard worker who just keeps providing support and moving the ball forward. He's no flashy but he very very good.

I'm not a fan unless he's nearly free I can't see what he adds. He's the opposite to Chips or dempster, he's lumbering. Carlisle is huge already and we go from smaller agile backs to 2 huge lumps who play a one on one game. I'm a bit worried about how he gets back to his best after injury too.

Don't know what the news on the AFL website is all about re Laverde, must've taken a complete 180 since Wednesday...would've taken something massive for him to apparently recommit to the Bombers. Maybe they ended up upping the offer on him. I'm shocked really lol.
Maybe Saints pulled that deal for someone else...

We were getting destroyed in some games with Fisher, Dempster and Goddard when he was there. Carlisle adds plenty, but I'd still love one more big guy there (Goddard if he was good to go, but he's not) along with a Fisher/Dempster. Needs to be a quality one though; e.g. Not Delaney.

Adelaide are sniffing around Rockliff as well, so will be interesting to see if he does leave? He will be 27 at the start of next season and is treacle slow but can win hardballs which Richo needs and can go forward.

Brisbane will want pick 10, but perhaps with a player eg Templeton included we might get a reasonable pick in return.

If we include Jack Steele into our midfield mix, he is an average runner we are not getting quicker.

At some stage can we please get some midfield/outside break away speed to help Steven? Freeman (not included).

Rockliff are we just laying the seeds early for this time next year?
Despite rocky being contracted for next year already, they've been trying to get him to resign all this year.

With all the other turmoil at the brions going on, you would think the club will try and sort his future out this year rather than have question marks over their captain leaving as a RFA all year in 2017.

Having rocky still unresolved would make it tough for a new coach etc to start with a clean slate.

So i reckon the brions might be keen to trade him this year (for say pick 10) instead of him leaving as a RFA next year.

Even if that would probably get them pick 3 or something in compo (assuming 2017 is another cellar dweller year for them)

Long story short- where the lions are at, pick 10 in this years draft COULD be worth more to them than pick 3 or so in the year after draft.
Because it speeds up their rebuild a bit and they can put rocky behind them, clean slate.

Just read most of the time and don't post in here often, but I disagree completely. The only role I can see Bruce ever playing and being a competent afl player in is close to goal.

I like Josh, but from what I've seen he'd have to go close to being the worst field kick in the afl. The ball is lucky to hit his foot sometimes. And unfortunately his hand balling isn't much better. Often, if he's playing up the ground or in the ruck, he's the one to end the handball chain with a handball to someone's feet or behind them.

Thankfully he has great athleticism, dukes like buckets leowe (until this year) and a dead eye set shot (shows what a bit of practice goalkicking can achieve). Perfectly suited to a deep forward role where most of the time when he gets it he's in goal scoring range. Any other position and I'd have my heart in my mouth whenever he went near it.
Fair enough. In my mind, I see him leading out of the f50 and taking a lot of marks around the ~60m area. Then a quick handoff to a lurking Sav or Mav for a booming goal from the 50, or to Billings or Roberton for a precision drilling kick to a player 25 - 30 out.

It's not really a viable AFL strategy but it looks good in my head.

Interesting take on it! I think the main things to consider with rocky are 1) that if they hold him to the contract they could get a 2/3 for compo next year. The other is that if they do let him go this year it would be for something very good and we would be in a bidding war with a lot of other clubs. The other that has shown strong interest is Adelaide. They have some fringe players (namely Lyons and Ellis-Yolmen) who brisi are reported to have a fair bit of interest in. Adelaides Pick 16 odd and Lyons might be much more appealing to them than 10 so we would be adding something ontop IMO if we were to get him.

I feel the club is not making an effort to re sign him early. Strong rumours that they are pushing him out and not rockliff shutting down deals

From the outside looking in I think there is a big chance Rocky leaves this year, not at the end of next. He will be 27 this coming Feb. I think Lions will rather start fresh this year and move Rocky on if a half decent offer than trade him as a 28yo a year later.

I like the idea of chasing him, and think we can compete for him as well as any other club, so happy for us to be in the mix, and have a good feeling we may end up with him. I don't see him as an out and out gun, but not that far off it, and I think beefing up our midfield with Rockliff would help all of Acres, Ross and Gresham to build on their 2016 seasons.

Anyway, just a feeling ATM.

wouldn't you want him gone as a lions fan, your list management is way out of whack, with all young KPP's and all prime aged mids theirs an imbalance that in 5 years time needs to be addressed.

Still gutted we missed out on O'Rourke and Jaksch...
Somehow......................I don't believe you.
O'Rourke looks as though he's lost and Jaksch........as though he wants to get lost. Not great signs for either at this point in time.

Reckon you'll keep your #10 and be happy you did.

Reckon I'd prefer pick 3 next year.

Unrelated but treacle surely has to be the most annoying word in the history of the English language, possibly all languages. Gives me the proper irrits, can't stand it.

Tom is our best player. Trading him really doesn't help the young boys improve. Relying on Dayne Beams with a knackered knee is not ideal. The club has made a massive mistake trading out picks for players like Bastinac and Bell who have not improved our team at all. IF Beams can get on the park and Rockliff is still a lion next year the new coach would have to look at him in the fwd line a lot more. One of the best one on one markers for his size in the game. Wins at least 80% of contests.
