Tom is our best player. Trading him really doesn't help the young boys improve. Relying on Dayne Beams with a knackered knee is not ideal. The club has made a massive mistake trading out picks for players like Bastinac and Bell who have not improved our team at all. IF Beams can get on the park and Rockliff is still a lion next year the new coach would have to look at him in the fwd line a lot more. One of the best one on one markers for his size in the game. Wins at least 80% of contests.
So a second rounder and Tom Lee?

Trading him this year would make absolutely no sense. 1. You guys need to at least be competitive or else you will lose more players and it will make it much harder for your younger guys to improve and 2. You would get much more for him leaving next year as a FA if that's what he decides he wants to do.

Agree. Lepptisch was right on one term. How can you get results with what he had. We've lost Merrett, West and Justin Clarke already this year. Lose Rockliff... not sure about that. We're too young as it is. He is 100% committed to the club but they're not so keen the other way.

Maybe Saints pulled that deal for someone else...
Lets hope mate! This Laverde stuff was pretty much set in stone midweek, it really is a dramatic change in the last 24 hours.

Lets hope we have another trick up our sleeve.

wouldn't you want him gone as a lions fan, your list management is way out of whack, with all young KPP's and all prime aged mids theirs an imbalance that in 5 years time needs to be addressed.
Their board seems to think that he is too harsh as a leader and causing unrest. In this day and age that's what you need to succeed (hehe rymed) I think it was Zorko who came out and said his sought of leadership is what they require. I swear he won players player last week as well so weird situation.

Now if we were to be in the hunt I think we will need to ship off pick 10 + a player. But I say wait out a year. Crows apparently don't have cap space so we could get him as a FA

Bruce was a steal....

.....but....

Nobody else wanted Membrey or Weller. Roberton was coming home to Frankston regardless if a club picked him up or not.

Carlisle had a few massive asterixs against his name, which have cost us dearly twice already and he hasn't even pulled the jumper on yet.

Longer wanted to go to Hawthorn and Freeman is a very well paid cripple.
Jeez who brought along the bad news bear

Anyone that thinks we'd get anything back with Rockliff for pick 10 are dreaming. Brisbane would be the ones asking for steak knives.

Contracted, captain, 2 x best and fairest winner, all Australian...

Brisbane would still have the Beams trade fresh in their mind
10 + next year's second would be around par maybe with something insignificant coming back.

That's about what the deal would be. Giving up a young top ten talent and the chance to get another good kid next year for a 27 year old that will be past his best by the time we are really contending seems crazy to me.

I think what people were saying is you would try Eli, Lee and 10 for a pick back. Probably best we could hope is a third rounder but Tom Lee was a high pick and Eli was a runner up VFL medalist. Eli would probably get a pick around 30 in a straight trade and Lee something after that being a non established player so they get something for their deal.

I would say we are playing finals next year if we get Rockliff, he will play until about 32 which is about the average for an elite mid these days (my Guess) that gives us 5 years of his best footy. Hopefully we are getting close in that time and some of our kids or FA might be ready by then.

I wouldn't go near Rocky if he's going to cost a first & second. Major pass.
I reckon 10 and a fringe player like Eli is about right. He's an absolute gun and they don't come up very often with out being broken down or other issues. Grab them while you can.

Yeah hasn't MG said the club is aiming to be in the top 4 by 2018? It seems like Rocky is a prime age for when the higher ups envision us to be contending.

10 & Eli sounds a lot better than throwing in a future 2nd.

I'm not excited about the age demographic Rocky & Mckenzie bring to the club but we would certainly become a better team with them in it

He will also be RFA next year. Pretty clear options there
