Would take Rockliff over Laverde, Marchbank and Steele combined.

Rockliff could be the difference between a 10-12 win season and a 14+ win season

But has this only cropped up because we missed out on the other two? What's changed from Brisbane and Rockliffs perspective?
Never been a Rockliff fan - how slow does our midfield have to become before our recruiters see that as a significant issue?

Seems a bit of a 'scatter gun' approach to recruiting at this stage. I can understand the interest in Laverde but you get the feeling the Club got played by Connors/Laverde and it seems once again Essendon walk away laughing. We seem to be having a bite at every one who comes on the market and thieves like Connors know we $$$ to spend in the cap and taking advantage of it.

On the flip side I see much more of a future in Laverde than Tom Rockliff, he is just the wrong age dynamic to be using a 1st round pick on IMO.

Go after Dion Prestia Saints at least he can run!

Don't believe every player, it's not scatter gun at all.

We're after midfielders and key defenders. Have we gone outside of that? If there's a young player we can get for nothing we will also take him. The mids are light, we still need more in and out

This isn't Melbourne scattergun couple years ago, or pies this year

I think its one or the other... Im not a huge fan of Rocky, he is a it Meh as a player. I like Steele more, he had more scope and I want us to keep acquiring talent (that is succeeding) from the 2013 and 2014 drafts...

Rocky or Steele, not both! And then go looking for some outside run and carry...
I really don't get the meh. People though Dangerfield was a good player when he was at Adelaide now he's back in Victoria and revitalised everyone thinks Geelong made him good. Rocky is a very high level player in an ordinary team. Stats are not everything but he isn't getting them doing nothing. He has more bounces than Joel Selwood and our best player for meters gained which is apparently the most important stat according to Kingy is montagna. I reckon if he's available you get him. He gets more of the ball than Jack steven gets similar clearances etc. He would take over from Dunstan as our third mid who is 254 or so in SC scores in comparison to 11 in the AFL.

If Rocky is available and we decide to have a crack at him this year then people need to remember that if Brisbane keep him for one more year and let him go as a FA he'd get them Band 1 compo which will likely be a top 3 pick next year. So to get him this year we'd have to pony up at least the equivalent of that - otherwise why would they bother? So that would mean #10 and probably around #20. Something like #10, next year's 2nd (?#30ish) and Eli - maybe a 3rd rounder coming back... That's a lot but then again the chance to compete potentially as early as next year with the likes of the Bulldogs/Swans/GWS midfields is pretty juicy... as is giving Rooey a fair dinkum crack again before he hangs up the boots.

bayside is ours, **** off back to waverly you arrogant campaigners
Tonight is the end of the campaigners campaign. Next year JOM will live in the Waverley rehab centre, Vickery will ruck for Box Hill and Tom Mitchell will feel like he is working in a retirement home

Are we still in the running for Steele, or is he staying with GWS? If he is I am all for getting Rocky. As for speed, we still have the draft to get some fast players.
Definitely still in the running.
Afl website reported he was yet to decide which way he goes.

I'd say it's likely he will be at the Saints next year.

As for pace we probably lack one or two with it. Freeman we can only hope. Venables has some wheels and looks very likely to be available to pick 10, could be an option

Word was almost certain he stays.
Doubt we have done more than the odd word to him, not consumed in him at this point

There is talk every year that compo is ending. hey said it might be this year even at one point. Teams are scared of the car[pet getting pulled out from under them. The club and player seem to be in conflict. Do you keep someone for a year knowing the playing group might split?

I'm not a fan unless he's nearly free I can't see what he adds. He's the opposite to Chips or dempster, he's lumbering. Carlisle is huge already and we go from smaller agile backs to 2 huge lumps who play a one on one game. I'm a bit worried about how he gets back to his best after injury too.
In fairness EMac actually has one of the best closing speeds of any of the defenders in the Comp.. His Ball use and decision making can be a bit dodgy, but he's not slow.

Still not sure I want him tho. Only unless he comes cheap

Pretty sure there's been word of us being into Rockliff for a while.
There was but I thought put to bed... Be great if we could.
If it is his bluntness that gets people offside then I don't think he'd have

Yeah you read to many Barrett articles.!You don't get over 30 touches a game without being able to run. And given pace is one of our strengths a bull like Rockliff sending it out to runners would improve our midfield exponentially.

Laverde is yet to cement himself and may become a star, but Rockliff already is one.

.... Not everyone rated Pelchen, but I liked his path and hope we're not trying to skip a couple of steps.
Makes you wonder how the Pelican must feel watching Caleb Daniel tonight after grilling him in the 2014 interviews.

Not even close to being "rag-dolled" tonight or any time this year.

We took Jack Lonie 5 picks before him. Have to admit we blinked on Daniel.

We should not underestimate the value of pick 46 this year either.

Gotta laugh at the Nostradamus' on here writing off this year's trade period.

And our 5 year plan fail. Even though we've from basket case last to 9th in 3 years with a list that resembled a crime scene.

Do these campaigners lack grey matter or simply aren't happy unless they have something to whinge about.

Club is canvassing all players of interest. It's a numbers game. Even they know that.

Tomlinson worth a look? Havent seen him much tbh but looked alright early on and is getting a game in backline for gws atm.

I know he has been linked to Carlton but how many more big blokes r dumb enough to sign there. They cant all get a game even if they are best mates with SOS. Will fall behind a few and not get a chance. Would get a chance for us.
Tomlinson is staying at GWS according to reports

Hope the recruiters have realised what a joke of a theory 'lack of height cancels out talent' is, how ridiculous.

Targeting elite young talent is scatter gun recruiting? Come on mate, what Collingwood and North have done the last few years is scatter gun recruiting..

Your last sentence... that's the thing. You probably need a list of 10 potential players you can target and hopefully the planets align and you shake one free.

Like big Jake last year, you seize you opp when you can.

If you can get both, you do. If you get neither so be it.

Not going you, just raising a point / thought bubble from your post.

Rockliff will be 27 in Feb 2017 will fall off a cliff in 2018 like Armitage did this year. We are not a quick team we just moved the ball quicker this year, in fact (take Steven out) our midfield would probably be the slowest and worst on the spread in the comp.

Armitage, Ross, Dunstan are slow. Gresham and Billings in a straight line are slow they make up for it with agility.

We need dynamic line breaking midfield speed eg Treloar, Martin not slugs like Rockcliff.

Jack Steele is a much better and more sound long term option IMO.
